course conditions were good
good round course conditions were good and pace of play was great
Would play here again
Had a great day. Would play here again in a heartbeat. They offer a Senior rate (60 yrs and over). Can't beat it. Staff were very nice. Most of the course was in good condition. There was one green that was not. For a public course would not complain. We played on a Friday and it was busy. Pace of play was not too bad though... folks move along.
Good Time
Friendly staff. They let us out early as we were a twosome. Finished the round in about 3 hours!
Switcheroo
I was supposed to play the South course but there was an outing coming through so they moved me over to the North side. I think I've only played the North course once before today. I told the young guy at the pro shop I had played Stow Acres fifty (50) years ago. He got a laugh out of that. One of the Grand Dams of public golf in this area is Stow Acres. It's been around a long time and sold several times. The man I played with is a member there and he told me it was sold again recently. The new owner must like cutting down trees because along side some of the holes on the North course it looked like a lumber company. Clearing and opening the course for faster and easier play I guess. The North course is plenty of golf course for anyone, a classic New England gem. Two really good courses, a nice Pro shop, a nice bar and dining area await you at Stow Acres. I would recommend it to anyone.
Good course, on the rise
Stow South, happily, is doing better. It went through a period when pace of play was brutal. Then it went through a period when conditions deteriorated. New management has come in, and they have put money into improving the place. And they are keeping people on track. Greens were in excellent shapes. Most of the fairways were fine, though some scratchiness. Pace of play was fine. Bunkers (of which I saw many) were in good shape. The course has a mix of wide-open and narrow holes. It also has three or four holes with very funky designs--10 for a start, but 16 is the worst. But in general a good course that is getting some of its mojo back, and the greens fees are fair. All in all, a good experience.
If you have 5 hours plus to kill...
Great layout. Good greens. Rest of the course needs some work. Or I need to hit more fairways. A lot of dirt patches in the rough. At a reasonable pace -- say 4-4 1/2 hours it would be great. That was my prior experience at the South course. Maybe it was due to starting at 9:51 on a Sunday. I don't know. It is a beautiful property.
Said I only owed 65 but when I got there they wanted 80
One of my favorites
Sunday afternoon round at Stowe South was a really good experience. Check in was fast , friendly and starter let us go early due to rain chances later in day. Course was in excellent shape all around. Never disappoints. Great views. Some long difficult holes (#10) ... short need to think holes (#13). Overall a super day. North course is better but South is nice compliment.
Stow Surprise
Price drew me in but the scenic course in good condition will bring me back.
Alright course.
Layout out it self is great just have to maintain the course better. It could be so much better track but unfortunaly condtion of course was ok. Slow green and average fairways.
Stow South
Course is in decent mid spring form. Greens a little inconsistent. Several troublesome trees have been removed since last season. A few places with ground under repair, and some casual water issues. Good news is work is active, and they should be 100% by late June.
Decent round
I think this course has seen better days. The rough was cut extrremely high and the fairways were not mowed down. This could have been as a result of some recent rainy weather. Layout is fun and there are some challenging holes. All of the holes near the clubhouse are wide open...but then you wind your way through some very narrow holes and trees come into play. I thijnk they are cutting some trees down to make it more playable.
My biggest complaint is I played on a Thursday morning (teed off around 10am) and it was hot. Temps reached the low nineties and THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WATER ON THE COURSE. No coolers, no halfway house on the course, no vending machines. Nothing. The clubhouse is a bit of a drive from the tenth tee, but I had to run in to buy something to drink.
They should warn golfers about this before the round....it's not healthy. No beverage cart either. It was ridiculous. My playing partner (a local gent) said that the water had some chemical issues and that may be why there is no "free" water, but I gladly would have bought a few bottles before the round.
Other than that glaring issue, course is fine and they offer a senior rate if you are 60 so I saved $15 on my green fees.
South course
Absolutely awful! No drinking water exists on this course ! No ranger exists in this course! No bathroom exists in this course! Plenty of power equipment existed on this course on a beautiful Friday morning. We heard more motors than birds! I will never be back!
Worth the trip
The staff was very good , we got there early and were able to go off early, Course is very tight with many doglegs and hills, Conditions were good considering how much rain on the weekend. My biggest complaint was the lack of marking on the course, some holes did not even have 150 markers visible.Certainly was a great value for what i paid
Course Recovering
Booked this round based on memory of this being a nice course. Had never played there but took some lessons 20 years ago. Got there and the staff mentioned new ownership and putting money back into the course and that it was coming back. My friend needed to rent clubs and the staff explained that they had returned all the Titleist rentals so they pulled together what I would describes as a garage sale set - Some King Cobra, Some Nike and a putting that was a clunker with electronic switches in the grip that beeped... they were going to charge him $50 to rent but then dropped to $30... Are you kidding? The staff were friendly though and we headed to the range to warm up. The range was all mats, but they were pretty good. The range itself was infested with dandelions - a sign of neglect over the years. The course was decent and the conditions were fair. The greens were bumpy and extremely slow. tee boxes and fairways were in good shape.
