Personnel was very accommodating!
Upon arrival at the course, we were told that the South course greens were irrigated the previous day. The person working the desk informed us that they were going to be aloud to play the North course with I understand is is a little more expensive than the South. A professional courtesy that did not have to be done but was! Thank you and truly enjoyed my round!!
North Course
Played after a day of rain. Course was is great shape, green slow because of rain. Staff was very funny and had many laughs. Want to go back when the weather is better. Only recommendation is that everyone should have carts before noon. We caught up to a foursome that was walking and had to wait the last three holes.
Fun course
Great course, it was wet out there but it's the beginning of the season after a tough winter. Great day!
Course has been getting a lot of bad ink, but I must say for late Spring golf I thought the course was in as good shape as other courses. I played the North course and enjoyed the round and you could see the staff out on the course working to get it ready for the season. I'll go back.
Stow North Course
The course was is good shape, but the leaves were everywhere on the fairways....
Greens were in excellent condition...best I've played on this year.
New ownership has invested several million into the 36 hole layout and it shows. Every trap has been rebuilt and the greens were superb. Miss the well groomed fairway and the primary rough was a little long making a par difficult.
Pace of play for a Wed late morning tee time was excellent on the South course. Open hole in front of us as well as behind us for most of the round. You would never know Mass is experiencing extreme drought conditions...the "entire" course was lush and green.
Transition from the front nine to the back nine was amazing with regards to the altitude of the holes. Back nine contained steep fairways making for some interesting shots. North course was $10 more to play because of a relatively level layout and seemed to be the course of choice for most golfers.
Playing the South course for the first time was a challenge. Doglegs, disguised ponds in front of greens teeming with green algae and sloped fairways made for an interesting round. Greens keeper must of had a rough night...most hole placements were directly behind a trap. Save some energy for the back nine...3 beautifully designed and extremely long par 5 holes were daunting.
Looking forward to playing there again. Hopefully traffic on Rt 495 will be without delays.
Tough track with rewarding views
I heard the North Course was one of the hardest courses in New England playing just shy of 7000 yards from the Tips. I totally got my monies worth and had a beautiful view off tall pines and fall leaves changing color through every hole. Also the bunkers were as white as could be, very pleasing. Great experience and friendly staff will definitely have me coming back.
Pleasant surprise
Read some recent reviews that were not great relating to course conditions. Maybe some recent rain helped but our group found the course in terrific shape. Staff was very friendly and maybe because we played on a weekday the pace was outstanding. We found a great price on Golfnow so it was a great value. Will definitely go again.
Good Solid Layout
The North Course is the better of the two at Stow Acres. Fun track to play when conditions are optimal. The course was in decent shape but the recent aeration made the greens unplayable. Nothing bad to say about the North Course. Play it!
Greens Airated, tee boxes beat up and green collars destroyed
I don't think I have to go into greater detail. I play a league at this coarse and love the layout. Their greens are in good shape in the middle of the summer but not now. there are huge chicks of terf missing in the collars of the greens and the tee boxes are beat up
Pace of Play can be slow
Pace of play can be slow as this course attracts average to infrequent golfers as well as seniors. I'm not a fan of a few holes as good shots are not always rewarded.
Still needs work
Great value using Golfnow. That being said, its probably the most technical course I've played this summer but the greens had been aerated a few weeks ago and there were quite a few bare spots and ball marks. Played in a foursome on a Monday afternoon but let several single players and a twosome thru which wrecks the pace. fairways and traps are above average, even close to the greens the rough is long, uncut and very grabby. Sparse yardage markers. Practice green is nice, driving range not so much. Will probably go back soon for the challenge.
Great course but burn't out due to the drought.
Worth playing for $50, but not the usual rate. Tees and greens were in good shape and some of the fairways. A few fairways and most of the rough were dead from the drought.
Getting better
It seems the previous owner let the course go for some time. The new owners are spending a lot on it and it shows. The greens are great, the fairways are getting better every very week and the staff is friendly and accommodating.Pace of play is always good. Rangers are always there to help keep play moving.
Bring your Golfnow receipt to the course!
As others have said, the man in the proshop tried to charge me a much higher rate than I had booked. He then made me sift through my phone to find my reservation and show him the price I was supposed to pay.
Upon seeing my rate he made a sarcastic "what a deal" comment and threw the receipt on the counter. Not a fan of that service and will likely not return because of it.
The pace of play was great, and the greens very nice. Fairways and tee boxes were worse than I expected. Make sure you double check the price they try to charge you!
Great Greens
Stow has two courses: A South course and a North course. The South course has the older section built in 1924. Many elevation changes, raised greens, some tight holes and "rough" patches, but that's due as much to the drought as it is maintenance.
Big hitters will not pull out driver too often. I hit 2 drivers and 4 3-woods and the rest were irons and hybrids off the tee, but I am a long hitter hitting it 300+ on drives.
You'll enjoy the greens. Soft and receptive so if you play a soft ball and spin it you will get the results you want. Greens were putting a little slower than I thought they would, but still very nice
Course was a little "Less" than what I was maybe expecting to see. Decent but not great conditions/layout.
public
Make sure to bring your own water, all water containers were empty. Even ball washers were empty (Maybe people were desperate and drank the water). It was bad. The wagon/drink lady finally showed up on hole #17, apparently there is ONE for both (south and North) course.
What happened to this place?
I hadn't played the North Course in a number of years. The main reason I stopped playing was that the greens fees became too high, and there are other places I would rather play for the money. When I saw the course was available through Golfnow, I figured I would give it a try. I was surprised to see how empty the North Course was on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. We were allowed to tee off early (12:40) because there was no one else there. The round took a little over 3 hours, which was good. , but the course conditions were not good at all, especially considering what they normally charge for greens fees. Much of the course was brown, and there were some really unmanicured areas. There was hardly any sand in the bunkers, making them almost unplayable. I'm disappointed that the course has gone so downhill. I heard about a foreclosure, so hopefully the new management will bring it back into shape.
