Improvements being made
While this is a very mature and historic course. The layout and challenges are vast. Work is being done on some tee boxes to improve them. I like the up and down nature and blind shots that occur on this course. No windshields on carts, would have been nice on the day I played.
great course
best course I have played this year, two people asked me to join their group and it is a great place to golf, I will come back
Big hills at Red Wings
I came to Red Wings for the first time and I was surprised about the big hills. Nearly every hole has a decent slope, what makes the course tough and challenging. I liked it and it also gives you a great scenery.
Course overall was in good shape, a little slow due to an ignorant threesome in front, who didn't let me pass as a Single.
I will definitely consider to play again if I am in the area.
Great views
The green had been recently aerated and were full of sand. The rest of the course was in very good shape. Fun course to play with alot of elevation changes.
Gem
Old school course with mature trees. Great layout except for just a couple of holes in my opinion. The course has been in good shape every time I've played there. Elevation changes and nice scenery. Can find good deals all over the internet to play here.
Tough course also over booked
Tough course and it made it tougher that we had to wait on driver boxes over and over again.
The course was in great shape.
Played 18 w/cart. Pace was great-31/2 hrs. Condition was good-greens were in great shape. Disappointed that there was not a beverage server to be seen. And trust me-we were looking. HGad the same difficulty last time we played there. Why? You have a great course and a beverage cart person would make good money. I think you are loosing biz because of that. If nothing else you should at least have vending machines on the course. Went t Kellys Bar and grill-Excellent food as well as service-try it you will like it.
Red Wing was a Pleasant Surprise
This was my first time on the course and I was amazed by how elevated the tees and greens were on the majority of the holes. We played as a twosome and had some difficulty figuring dogleg right or dogleg left, so we were slower as first timers, but finished in 3 hours, 20 minutes. No one was in front of us, so we could have gone faster if we had known our way. The greens were very nice and I enjoyed the Par-3's, especially #10, a major downhill. Our SkyCaddie SG4 was a great help for distances. Fabulous views of the Mississipi River Valley.
A jem
A good challenge, great scenery. You won't be disappointed.
Hard, hard, hard!!
The course is absolutely beautiful and it was nice to look around at the beauty around the course, but for an average playing woman, it was really a tough course. The holes are long!! Lots of hills. I'll probably stick to an easier course.
Some goofy holes
The course was in good condition buts lots of winter kill still on the greens! If you cant grow grass this summer you need a new greens keeper. Some of the holes are not driver friendly so use your laser before teeing off. Few holes that run next to each other so we heard " FORE " a lot. Bev cart wouldn't stop for us looked like she had members to attend to first. Pro shop staff very friendly though.
Great time
Other than some of the greens that had bare spots the course was in perfect condition. The layout and variety of hole types is the fun part of going to Red Wing. That and the trick to finding the entrance.
old style course
RW is an old style, tree lined, small greens & not very long. Like the layout as most holes are right in front of you. Course maintenance is not the best & greens were in fair to poor condition (a lot of dead spots). However for $25 w/cart still consider it a good value and would recommend it for this price.
Nice course- hit it straight.
Great time! There are some woods, bring a sleeve of balls.
Red Wing Golf Club
always enjoy playing at Red Wing...old school course that makes uou hit every shot....winter might have been a little rough on the track, but fir an early May round I can offer no complaints
The course was very scenic
Good layout but it had a couple funky holes greens were in great shape but the fairways were pretty rough
Well worth the money but very challenging.
Challenging course. Greens were excellent; fairways had winter kill. Visible 150 yard markers would be suggested.
We enjoy golfing at this course when we are in Red Wing.
The fairways took a beating from the cold, but are in good condition. The greens are challenging for putting, but are in good condition as well. The pace of play was good. The back nine is the most challenging with the changes in elevation and elevated greens.
It is very picturesque setting. The greens are fairly big. The marking for yardage from the green is difficult to find.
Extremely slow, tee time issues
We bought a tee time on golfnow. When we showed up, the course said the tee time didn't exist on their tee sheet. We had to wait for an extra 30 minutes beyond our purchased tee time to tee off. When we teed off we waited on every tee box and were stacked up behind 3 groups on the 10th tee. A terrible experience all around and we won't be coming back.
Great late season deal
I always enjoy playing this course. It has some of the best tee shots of any course in the area, including teeing off of a cliff on #1, #10, & #16, compared to a steep uphill tee shot on #9.
