Old Course, But a Great Layout.
Donald Ross Layout, of Old. This course requires you to be accurate off the box. There are not many flat fairways and your tee shot placement is critical if your going low here Its a fair challenge for ALL if you follow the layout as Donald Ross wants you to play it, and if you don't, Good Luck. I really enjoyed the test and would recommend this Course to other players.Greens have subtle lines and are in Good Condition. Fairways are in Very Good Shape.
Fast Greens - Great Course
Hillcrest is one of KC's old time gems! It has been restored to its former glory. The greens are some of the fastest - if not the fastest rolling greens in town. The course is in good condition overall and they are taking great care of the greens. It was a cooler summer day and we had a great time!
Hillcrest GC - Kansas City, MO
Very nice old style golf course. There is not many hazdards, except for the huge oak trees that line the fairways. The Donald Ross design is very challenging and you never really have a flat lie. It is worth playing.
Average conditions nice old style layout.
Tough course , lots of trees and challenges, but fun and interesting. Thanks
Decent value for the money
Decent value for the money... good rate but course is average at best and conditions were below average.
Donald Ross Classic
Hillcrest is a traditional Donald Ross course that uses the natural wooded hillsides with abrupt slopes off the fairways to reveal few flat lies or easy greens. Like Swope Park next door, the course plays longer than its yard markers indicate and has enough deep valleys and uphill greens to make distance calculation a challenge. Course upkeep is getting better but cart paths need some work, so watch your step.
Hillcrest Charmer
Fantastic value for a course this good. Course well maintained. Greens were fast.
GREAT OVERALL COURSE
Pretty decent course. My only complaint was that when booking my round on golfnow, the price was 22.00. When I checked in at the pro shop, i was charged 34. I didnt catch it until after he ran my card and all the guy behind the counter would say was, "im sorry about that.". I didnt feel the need to complain much about 10 dollars and obviously 32 is still a good deal but its just frustrating.
GREAT OVERALL COURSE
My only complaint is that usually when i play here, the bunkers are terrible. Poor maintenance, not raked, mudholes, etc...its just not very fun for a player that wants to be challenged. Sure you can take free relief if you want but if you are like me you always feel A) Guilty for taking that drop and B) robbed of opportunity to play out of a bunker, gain experience, learn and further enjoy the game. Its frustrating, at least to me.
Decent Course
Course could have been in better shape, but overall a good layout and worth it for the money
Great
It's early season but course was still nice. You can usually get a great rate with a hot deal here. I paid full price cause I wanted to get out. Course is a challenge with the amount of trees lining the fairways. But it you can stay on the fairways you will be alright. Awesome course, I've played here multiple times.
Course reasonably priced and worth it
I feel Hillcrest Golf Course is a fair, yet challenging course. You can use all the clubs in your bag and its undulating course makes shot placement important. Now, don't get me wrong, it won't be the nicest course you've played but I do feel like it is a nice course. We played the middle of December and the course was in surprisingly good shape.
Great Course
Challenging fairways, position off of tee is very important. Tough enough for the enthusiast but fair enough for the weekend warrior. Course has some rich history as well!
Great course layout
It's easy to see this course was once outstanding. The layou is fabulous.
Unfortunately it has fallen into disrepair and needs a lot of work to bring it up to mediocre, and a lot of money to take it back to good.
I hope someone will be able to purchase this great property and restore it.
old school course. kind of a tight layout, but also forgiving. challenging, but fair.
the course is in great condition. the staff is friendly and helpful. can't ask for much more than that. one of my favorite courses to play in KC.
Must be Accurate
This course punishes you hard for missing the fairway. The course itself was in pretty good condition given recent rain. Greens were fairly quick and rolled true. It's a good course if you know what to expect going into it. I will say I was very displeased with the "driving range". There was a sign asking you to only use irons. And the grass to hit on wasn't well maintained at all. Also no chipping green, just a small putting green. All in all a very tough, well maintained course.
Decent for value
Main complaint is there was a mens league that had a shotgun start about half hour after our tee time. They used front nine only. We got bumped from the 6th and had to move to the back. With everyone getting bumped there was a huge log jam.
This may have biased my overall rating. Decent course for the value. Next time I'll check the course site to make sure there aren't any events scheduled but they shouldn't have opened an 18 hole slot to GolfNow when they knew there was a league playing.
Challenging to say the least
I had wanted to play this course for many years and glad I finally had a chance too. There aren't too many even lies on the course which made every tee shot and second shot an interesting decision. Even the greens have a quite a bit of slope to them. I think playing the course a few more times will make it easier to know where to hit my tee shots and second shots.
