Can't believe I've never played here before
Amazing conditions. Beautiful course.
100 year old course, still fun
this course is kinda tucked away next to another course. this course is long when its long and its short when its short. the carts have gps in them. If it has rained recently this might not be the best course to play.
Very nice practice facility
Spring golf
Love this course. Usually in great shape but it is spring and the fairways and greens need some time to grow
Price was 15 dollars so great value and they recognized that course was not up to usual conditions.
Will play again
Old Course
This is an outstanding course and will be even better when the grass starts growing. The course is very challenging.
Golf in February!!!
Apparently we weren't the only people in KC to have the idea of taking a Friday afternoon off work to get in a round of golf in beautiful conditions in February! Course is tough but we love it. Pace of play was understandably slow. Course wasn't in the best condition but it was February!!!
Long day
I've played Hillcrest many times and this was the slowest play ever. Took 5 hours to finish 18 holes. Ridiculous! Starter but no marshal to speed play. Course is in good condition. Greens are firm and fast.
Well developed course
Beautiful area with beautiful trees. Some challenging holes, some fairly straight forward. Greens have a lot of undulation. I had one straight putt all day. Fairways reward accuracy.
Old School Golf!!!
Wanted to play for sometime. Growing up in Michigan, this had the feel of a mature, tree lined Michigan course. Visually intimidating. There is not a time I felt like I had a flat lie or feet level. Very challenging!! Donald Ross design is a must play. Not long but you must play to the terrain of the hole. Whether it is rolling right or left, you better hit it to the appropriate side. Greens were fast!! And if people would fix their ballmarks, they would be perfect!! And don't get me started on why people drag golf spikes across greens. Pace of play was extremely slow on a late Saturday afternoon. We were a twosome and playing behind Woods, Nicklaus, Palmer and Spieth didn't help matters. They took forever off the tees and even longer on the greens checking the line from every angle. If they broke 90, I'd be surprised. Other than pace of play , it is somewhere we want to go back to. Staff was GREAT!!! If you like elevation change, challenging greens, sloping fairways and Old School layout, what a great challenge!! PS Leave your driver in the bag!! Placement will serve you well!!
A Challenge
Great course, very good condition and very accommodating staff.
Hidden Gem in KC
This course is a hidden gem in KC. You wouldn't know you were in the middle of a city. Course was in great condition and you can't beat the price for a golf course like this. We played the tips and it was very challenging but fair. Great course.
Beautiful Course
Course in very good condition, excellent greens, the scenery is awesome. So quiet to be so close to a freeway. Staff awesome. Had a great time.
Hot Day, but Good Golf
I found a tee time deal on GolfNow.com for my first round on this course. The only feature of the course that is struggling is their pool area next to hole one. Other than that, I really enjoyed the course lay out. The par 5s on the back 9 are all almost 500+ across the board, but this round I lucked out and Double Eagled the 490+ Yard 13th!! The pace of play was rough as it took 5 hours to finish 18, but that's because the four in front were spraying from rough to rough. Overall, really liked this course.
Course is great, staff needs work
The course was in great shape. The first 2 holes are a disaster as you have to risk life and limb to get to the driving range. We were told balls were on the range to find out they were not, you had to fetch your own golf balls. When I asked, they said they were understaffed. The course is very compacted. Some holes, if you are off, you are probably in someone else's fairway. Food selection was horrible. Guy at register was less than cordial. The back 9 was great. Nice open fairways but some holes are a little difficult. I would go there again
Glad to be back
Last played Hillcrest in the mid 70's. Course was intimidating then and has grown to be a first class golf course. Will not wait another 40 years to play again.
Best place I've played in KC
Absolutely loved this course!!! My new favorite for sure. Thought the gps was pretty cool showed yardage to hole which really helped my game. The grass is great and well maintained! The sand traps were all in great shape as well. Staff was helpful and you get free unlimited range balls!!! Another golfer I met was also very nice as I am a beginner and gave me some tips on how to play at a faster pace so I will keep up with the rate of play. Great place, great people, highly recommend!!! Will be playing again soon!
Rained but the Course was terrific
It is nice to go back in time and playa traditional Midwest course. Lots of trees and sloping fairways. The GPS is great. They have done a lot of great work on this course. I would say a must play in the area. I wish it would quit raining.
Vintage
A vintage course, the fairways lined with big trees and drinking fountains reminiscent of a lost era. The course was in good shape considering the amount of rain we have had. The trees could use some trimming of the low branches. I will play this course again...
Great service on a rainy day
I booked at the last minute, trying to time the end of storms in the area. It was still raining when I arrived. They sent me to the lounge to wait out the rain. It was a nice, friendly place to hang out. An hour and a half later, the rain stopped and they got me on my way.
I played a pretty quick round of golf and the conditions were really quite good considering the soaking the course had just taken.
Great staff, very accommodating, nice course.
