Very friendly reception by staff, course in good shape under grought conditions. Pace of play is very expeditious.
The staff was vey helpful before and after the round. The course was maintained very well under current dry conditions.
Great challenging course for the money.
What else can you say for a Donald Ross course; it can beat the socks off you if you can not place the ball. They did alot of work on the course over the winter and it shows. Greens- Excellent; Fairways are coming around. Could use another drink/snack cart.
Played here before. They have made improvements since I played here before.
Glad to see this course is on the rise again. You have to make shots to score well on this course. the course is in great shape and the greens are well maintained. It can be unforgiving if you lose focus. Fun.
Old school golf
Relatively short course that makes you place your shot. Tree lined fairways to mostly elevated greens. You must pay attention to the valleys as some puts break uphill. The greens roll true and semi-fast. The views from the tee boxes are exceptional.
course played at a good rate
Course was in good condition and play was at a good pace
History, beautiful fairways and challenging greens
I have to take this course on again. Very good condition considering are weather.Staff was helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this course to anyone that's up for a challenge. Bring your "A" game, you're gonna need it. The greens a large and undulating. Fairways are tree lined and manicured.
An absolute hidden gem in the Kansas City area.
Good old Hillcrest - a Donald Ross designed course (yes, Pinehurst #2's Donald Ross) from the early 1900's, so it is a very "walkable" course, and in great condition tee-to-green. You can see there is still work to be done to get it up to "pristine", but the new owners definitely have their priorities in order, and have kept the original design in tact. You get to play every club in the bag, and with the different tee-boxes, and a great mixture of bunkers, water, native grasses and trees, it makes for a very fair and challenging layout at the same time for all skill levels. Love this course!
Great layout
Greens could be a little faster. Course is in pretty good shape overall.
History
Lots of work going on to get this gem back in shape.
When you play there consider its history of the course architect.
Very hilly, many side hill lies, Donald ross greens but very puttable.
Fairways and tee boxes could use some attention. Greens were very good and for Donald Ross design were relatively flat and very puttable. Many blind uphill approach shots. It had rained fairly heavily in the morning so not much if any roll.
Very Nice facility and Course is in great shape.
New carts and state of the art GPS. Course is challenging and smaller greens than we are used to and that makes for a very challenging round with elevated Greens with bunkers around!
I would recommend this course to anyone.
Grand old course now in sad shape! Our visit was very disappointing to say the least.
GPS did not work properly on either of our golf carts. Course staff's response was that they were having "problems".
# 9 fairway and green are in process of being moved or repaired or both. Better, more informative signage would have been helpful.
Restrooms around the course were in severe need of cleaning and upkeep, absolutely nauseating. NO EXCUSE for this!
Concession items grossly overpriced. We respectfully declined.
Cart boy at the outset WAS very good, only positive aspect of our visit, unfortunately.
We like this grand old course, but based on my three partner's opinions, probably will NOT return until we hear better reviews than what we witnessed this past Sunday afternoon.
Hilly layout with many tough angled fair ways Good course but 55 bucks is too high
Enjoyed the outing. The course seems to be coming make from some disrepair but coming along nicely. The long tees are a challenge with some long shots and narrow tree lined fairways. The hilly terrain laid out some sloped fairways that made keeping the ball up on the short grass tough.
I will go back but on a discount greens fee.
I hate to be negative, I know they are working on it, but theyhave a long ways to go.
Hate to be negative, but it looks like they have a long way to go to get this place in shape. Staff is mediocre at best. GPS didn't work. Temporary 9th green has been temporary for over a year. It was 85 degrees out. There was no drinking water on the course. Come on. Then you get to the clubhouse and a soft drink is 3.50. Come on. I wouldn't bother to play it again this year. maybe by next year it will be done.
This Course was awful!
Poorly kept fairways, and greens. No cart service, and just an awful course in general. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
great lay out
book it on line for 35 dollars, would not pay the regular rate, greens was slow and was bumpy,it was the in march though, gps did not work in the carts tried 2 carts none didn't was working.if the fix these problems it would be worth the money
Great old. course.
Like step back in time. fairways lined with 100 yr. old trees. You have to make shots not just hit it long and chip and put. Nice change from most courses I play.
This course has a fun layout.
I enjoy playing this course. Hillcrest is a very interesting layout. Though not very long, it demands a straight shot off the tee. Fairways, Tees and Greens are in good shape, but you can tell the surronding areas of the course have gone through a couple of years of neglect. The staff in the pro shop need a lesson in customer service. They didn't really make you feel like they appreciated the business. Concessions were limited and way over priced compared with nicer facilities in the area. That being said it is a great old course and I would reccomend you give it a try.
great design and layout!
a tremendous treat at a fair price for all to enjoy! One small crituque was that the leaves had not seemed to be cleared for a while. This caused lots of extra delays looking for ball that should have been easier to locate. Thanks for the priveledge of playing such a classic! Will be back if these prices continue next season.
