Woods Fort Golf Course

I have been twice this year and both time were very disappointing. The first time was the day they had their owner’s tournament and even then the course was in horrific shape, greens were burnt up and the fairway was almost as thick as the rough making your ball difficult to find even in the fairway. Also course management was hard as there were very few yardage markers. The second time you could tell they have spent some money on some improvements “ I would guess that started after the owners saw the course in the shape it was in”. This course has potential if they continue to work at it. I may revisit in 2 years or so.

They are trying to upgrade the course, but the front nine is basically unplayable and should be closed to play. The back nine is a little better. Course management is making a mistake by not leaving nine holes open to play while the other nine are being upgraded instead of trying to do the whole course at one time. They have no business trying to collect a full green fee given the condition of the course.

No sand in bunkers, greens had several dead spots. Fairways were under construction and several holes were closed for play.

The course was in very poor condition. Two holes were completely closed due to recently being striped with zoysia. Many other holes were also recently striped with zoysia but were open. This left the fairways uneven and in poor condition. The majority of the greens were also in terrible condition. Several greens had large areas that were bare. Putting was just up to how your ball bounced as it went through these areas. We paid $34 each to play this course on a Saturday morning. We felt as if we were paying full price to play a course that was in horrible condition. Had we known the condition of the course we would not have played there. We voiced our opinion at the clubhouse and for our threesome we were given one 9 hole raincheck that they said they would keep on file at the course. We were completely disappointed!

This review is based only on my last visit. Normally, this course is in average shape and a challenging course to play. Right now, they are striping the fairways with zoysia grass, which should make it great to play in the future, but right now it's a pain. I played Mon, Aug 5, and holes #4 and #5 were both closed as they were in the process of striping them with zoysia - could not use them at all. Hole numbers 6, 9, 11, 14, 17 and 18 have all been striped with zoysia, so they were cart path only and had to move your ball to avoid hitting on the zoysia. I'm sure there are more holes to be striped in the next couple weeks as well. Because of all that work, a lot of the rough has not been mowed and is super thick, and the stripes of grass in the fairways that are not zoysia are overgrown and lots of weeds until the zoysia takes over. Several of the greens (close to half) have either been burnt out or have some kind of disease on them and they are in horrible shape. The rest are all in good condition.
Overall, to charge full price at this course right now is not a fair value at all considering all the things you have to work around and play around. If you can get the Golf Now 12noon time for cheap it's worth it if you just want to hit the ball around, but other than that, not anywhere near the value to pay full price right now. Next year, if the zoysia comes through and starts taking over in the fairways and they can fix whatever problem they're having on some of the greens, it could be a great course to play.

Very well maintained, There was a few holes closed due to a previous storm that had rolled through, so to compenstate for that they allowed us to play a few extra holes. Not many courses will do that. Staff super nice and helpful, will come here again!

This is a fun course, right now they are redoing the fairways with new grass so some hole will be closed from time to time. The greens are burning and showing bare spots. They are doing a lot of improvements right now and can't wait to see the finished product. It looks like it will take a year or so for the grass to take hold but should be major improvement . Because of the repairs you can play this course in a little over two hours.

Fairways are too thick. You get no roll. Most approach shots are to flags you cant see or think is your flag but another holes. Playing this course for first time is very confusing. Also no hot dogs on the turn.... probably wont play again.

this could be a very nice course, fairways need to be cut shorter, greens are way too slow, great layout pace of play was good. Easy too lose a ball in fairway, over all nice place

The fairways hadn't been mowed. If they invest in a mower, it would be a very good course. It had rained the night before, so it might have been because of that, but it looked like it hadn't been mowed in a few days. The people there were wonderful and the restaraunt was very nice. All in all, not a bad experience, if the fairways were better, it would have been great!

Course is in pretty good shape, with all the rain it is going to be alittle soggy, Being a pretty solid player love this course great value on Golfnow if you do not play it's your fault. Staff is very friendly, Resturant has the best hotdogs, must dry homemade chips, I will play this course alot more, this spring and summer

Typical conditions for a golf course for this time of year. Greens a little long but rolled fairly true if not a little slow. Fairways were well drained and in good shape.
