Cattails Golf Club

The course is challenging, lots of forced carries. Difficult to read greens. That being said, I have not had a worse experience in a long, long time. Over 3 hours for 9 holes, came in and got a raincheck for the other 9. Rangers are out there doing absolutely nothing to speed up play. Met a foursome who had a tee time at 11:15, it was after 5:00 and they were only on hole 15. Something is very wrong here. Lots of folks not knowing what they were doing or else just didn't care. Don't think I'll ever go back.

Been going there for years, and was a hidden Gem year ago and nothing has change still a gem just not so hidden anymore. Recommend playing from the blue tees since the course is on the short side in length but still great. Greens are vey good and quick.

Nice course but awfully pricey. Staff was friendly. Pace of play was awful, stuck behind a foursome that really was a twosome, they didn't pay for their "riders". Nicely maintained, bathrooms were a bit smelly.

Course was in very good shape, with fast smooth greens.

However pace of play was terrible for a Tuesday. Waits on the tees of the back 9 were sometimes 10 minutes. Course was overbooked with no rangers to encourage a faster rate of play. My expectations for a Tuesday round of golf is 3-4 hours. Drove off the course after 12 holes at the 3:20 mark when it appeared that if was slowing even further.

It's all about placing your tee shots in the right place so you can score, otherwise you will struggle. Greens are in very good shape.

Pace of play was a little slow on the front but improved greatly on the back. I plan on golfing again at Cattails this summer.

Nice course. Need to place your shots on several holes. Like the improvements.

It would have been helpful to have a better description of the hazards on a card or at the tee box. As in distance to the water, and or "water on the right" I would like to come back, it was fun.

Pros -

Great course at a great price. Perfect 18 hole round with my dad, brother in law, and his dad before the holiday festivities kicked off.

Cart girl came around plenty of times.

Pace of play was excellent for a Saturday morning.

Staff took great care of us, and don't forget to hold onto your receipt for the starter, don't crumple it up and throw it in your bag like I did.

Cons -

It is right off a dirt road, I would not recommend driving your weekend ride.

It helps playing with somebody that has played before, some of the hazards are deceiving.

Over an inch of rain the day before and the greens were fast and true. Course needs more signage on cart path for next holes. Info on water hazards and distance to creek on a few holes would have been helpful.

Peaceful round, and play moved nicely. A few "blind" shots... could use a little help on distance to the corner on doglegs, but generally really enjoyed the round!

Very slow play. Did not even finish 9 holes. I couldn't stand it anymore and left the course. Did get a rain check for 9 holes. I should've deserve for 18 holes. Played 6 holes but waited from the first hole.

The course was in great shape, but the fairways seem very close to each other on the front nine.

This was my first time out at Cattails, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The scenery was nice as well as the course was in great shape. Undulating greens that read true, and a pretty challenging course. Really need to place a lot of shots off the tee to set up for a great approach shots. Not every par 4 or 5 is a grip it and rip driver hole, used 3W or Hybrid off the tee.

Course in great shape, greens were receptive, booked as a twosome but were paired with a couple from Korea who were awesome company. Weather awesome, course awesome, company awesome, golf was on "par". Last time I played here was in the mid nineties on our company league, the course has matured and is still a challenge and needs a few strategic shots, will definitely be back soon!

Toughest greens I have ever putted on. Not one flat spot the entire round. Multiple hills breaks. Really frustrating. From tee box up to green is adequate.

Had not played this course in about 15 years. Played it with my son who's a 2 handicap off the back tees. Challenging but fair course. Course is very good shape with average speed greens. Clubhouse could use a little updating.

First time playing this course. What i paid for the round, I was very pleased!! I will be back!!

Played on July 2nd, the course and greens were in really good shape. Great value with this deal.

Visited to Cattails Golf Club in South Lyon, MI on May 9, 2015 for the first time. The course is located off dirt, gravel road - maybe, this should have been my first red flag.

I wouldn’t consider this course as anything special, but can be challenging if you are not familiar with the layout.

My foursome consisted of golfers who consistently score 40-55 per nine.

They started us about 20 minutes AFTER our scheduled tee time.

At the turn we stopped to buy hot dog combos (about $5.50 for a hot dog, small bags of chips and a fountain drink) for each of us, but the guy behind the counter wouldn’t let us stop to eat because the group behind us closing in quickly.

Then on the next hole, not only did we choke down our food, but two other course staff came by to inform us that we needed to pick up play because the 3-some in front of us was creating a gap. Really? How special they much feel to conclude that a 3-some is moving at a faster rate than a 4-some. Smart staff.

For the remaining 8-holes, the group behind us were never closer than a 1-2 holes to us. So instead of allowing 4 paying customers to enjoy themselves, the staff felt it necessary to unnecessarily rush us when there was no reason.

Well, they can expect the four of us to take our business to someone else. When you pay to play, there shouldn’t be any reason why we shouldn’t enjoy ourselves without feeling unnecessarily harassed.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COURSE. There are a number of other courses in the area that I think you would enjoy more without the rude attitude if you don’t golf at the rate of a professional.
