About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Fun Course, Slow(ish) pace of play
Good local course. Pretty well kept for as much use as it gets. The pace of play was pretty slow (almost 5 hour round) for not a crazy long course. Group in front of us took forever on each green, would like to see the pace of play accelerated a bit but overall great experience. Some tough holes, the last 2 are long fun par 4s.

You mention slow play. It was a holiday and we show all rounds completed in 3.5 hours to 4.5 fours throughout the day. Sorry you must have been in the 4 and one half grouping.

I always liked this course.
I always like Mattawang. I played this course every month in my corporate golf league. Now that I’m retired I come out and play the course with my wife. We both enjoy the course layout and it is in wonderful shape.

Good course
All the fairways are pretty close to one another so if you don’t hit it straight it’ll end up on the other fairway no doubt. Course is great though

Nice course
Very nice course. Pace of play was good. No hold ups anywhere. Great conditions all around. Haven’t seen bunkers in that good of shape in a while. Only complaint is that there was no cart girl or grill. After playing 18, I was looking for a cold beer and there was none on the premise.
Glad to see you enjoyed conditions and the pace of play. We do not have a liquor license, and because of that the cart girl does not get much business.

Nice little course. Only downside is no water on the course or cart service so bring your own water! Will definitely play again

More than expected
Looking for somewhere new to play and found Mattawang. Blew our expectations out of the water! Outsiders way see the older looking club house and driving range and choose somewhere else to play, but the course was absolutely beautiful. No one else on the course with us and we finished 18 in 2.5 hours. Totally recommend and I am definitely returning soon

Mattawang is definitely underrated! They keep this course beautiful and the pace is always great here! It's always a little crammed to start, but once you get to hole 3 It's usually smooth sailing. Mattawang is still one of my favorites in Somerset County.
