About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

More than expected
Looking for somewhere new to play and found Mattawang. Blew our expectations out of the water! Outsiders way see the older looking club house and driving range and choose somewhere else to play, but the course was absolutely beautiful. No one else on the course with us and we finished 18 in 2.5 hours. Totally recommend and I am definitely returning soon

Mattawang is definitely underrated! They keep this course beautiful and the pace is always great here! It's always a little crammed to start, but once you get to hole 3 It's usually smooth sailing. Mattawang is still one of my favorites in Somerset County.

Not crowded/great conditions!
... on a Saturday in June no less. I thought Mayne they had aerated since the tee sheet was so open when I checked Friday night... but no! The greens were rolling fast and true .... so i dont know why the course was so open. My 4some were all my buddies and i we were playing competitive match play (albeit quickly by most people's standards). Nobody in front of us all day! Mattawang has always been a nice track but they have upped their grooming game IMO - excellent greens/fairways/tees!!! Hopefully it'll be so wide open next time! Bravo Mattawang!!!!

Wide open and relaxed
Mattawang has the feel of a good public course. Tees and greens are better than typical county courses and roughly half of the holes are interesting and challenging. I only play a few rounds per year and really like the laid back and informal feel of Mattawang.

Nice course great condition
Nice course great condition. The Ranger was very nice starter was good. Unfortunately no food or drinks available at course. They used to have the barbecue open on the weekends apparently not anymore. Had to wait at most holes seemed a little overbooked.
FYI - A wide variety of snacks and drinks are available in the clubhouse. Sorry you missed them.

Fun course. Only remark is the last two Fridays the staff cutting the fairways were on most holes and followed us up all the way to the greens without pausing the motor. Otherwise nice course and good times.
Thank you for your continued support. It is a shame that you did not recommend the course after having played here so much. The grounds crew has had a very tough year getting the course prepared due to so much rain. If you remember how wet the course was on Friday, it was clear they could not get mowers out most of last week. Sorry they were keeping the mowers running but they needed to prepare the course for the beautiful weekend.

Nice course
Greens had not been cut in a while. Other wise it was in good shape. Sand traps were good for a public course.

Since we are two weeks removed from aerifying the greens they may not have been at top speed which is normal, they are cut.
Thanks for trying Mattawang for the first time, now you have to get out more then once every three months. Enjoy the game!
Mattawang is the best value for your money, in my opinion. The staff is very friendly , the course is always in great shape. Absolutely love playing there
