About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Had a great time!
The staff was friendly. The woman working the front desk gave me discounts on a fleece and a hat I bought. There was a 30 minute frost delay but we were the third group out. The course played nice, wide open and easy to find your ball if you miss the fairway. There is one par 3 that is 220 yards which I loved. The starter gave some helpful tips to what to look because it was my first time there. Overall had a great time would play again.
Too crowded
There were too many people on the course and the pace of play was very slow. Not only that but the golfers behind us were hitting right into us.
Not the courses fault. But they put too many people out at a time.

Starter is awful course is great
Play this course regularly and never usually write reviews but had the same utterly despicable starter from the last two round here and both times he has been absolutely horrible person to encounter, has a god complex and then talks to people in the most demeaning manner, great course overall and the other starter is a joy but you better hope to not run into this other guy, never had problems here before this guy

Without further information, I can only assume this was in reference to the extra cart that was desired. Hopefully, you will return and enjoy the course the way you have in the past.

Mattawang in great shape!
Played this course for 30 years and it’s never been in better shape! Greens perfect running true; fairways plush and rough playable and not a leaf to be seen. Traps have new sand - way to go Mahlon! Special kudos for staff at desk Joyce - for doing the hard work and cheerfulness. The perfect day.

The grounds crew has worked shorthanded all year and done a great job, their efforts have led to our nice conditions. Also, thanks for pointing out the hard work that Joyce has put in, she has been a tremendous asset to the staff and the club for many years. Keep coming for another 30! Thanks
Third Time
Glad we found this course. We live in Morris County and this is closer than some county courses.Narrow fairways make accuracy key. Not a lot of trees so not a lot of leaves, which is a big plus this time of year Greens are in great shape. Snacks but no grill or beverage cart. We'll play there again.

Another great day
Another enjoyable day at Mattawang. Course is nice and green like it has been all year. Compliments to the team at Mattawang. They have maintained the course beautifully all year and very friendly staff. Also a very solid test from the tips. Played in 4:10 on a busy saturday. Cant ask for more. Keep up the great work

I've always liked this course!
The course was in great shape, but players need to be reminded to rake the traps. They were a mess with footprints.

Getting golfers to rake the bunkers has long been an issue and since Covid it has been even more difficult. We are trying! Thanks
Nice and not crowded
We were able to play 18 holes in 3 hours. Some greens need some maintenance. Overall it was pleasant. We’ll come back.
