Nice course but it’s like being at a shooting range
Third time playing (because it’s an hour ride) but always enjoy the course
Golden Pheasant
Overall the course is in good condition, except for the bunkers. A lot of bunkers that have no sand or have water in them. Also, the 15th hole is like a miniature golf hole. Putting down hill, if you don't hit the hole the ball is rolling off the front and down the hill no matter how soft you hit it...coming back up the hill, same thing, hit the hole or the ball is coming back down to you.
Golden Pheasant challenge
The fairways and tees were in good shape. The greens were very receptive and very fast. The leaves were a challenge on the greens, but they were still puttable.
Shooting gallery
Nice enough course but players from other hole were in our fairways all day. Might want to remind players to fix their ball marks and holler FORE
Fun Round
I played this course many years ago and forgot how much fun the couse is. There are many great holes and can't wait to play here again!
Perfect Day at Golden Pheasant
Beautiful, sunny 72 degree day out on the course with a Noon tee time, the day could not have been more perfect. Great pace of play - had a 4 some in front of us but still managed to finish a touch over 4 hours. The bar tenders in the club house were a delight, the course was in pristine condition. Usually over $100 for a tee time, a hot deal got us below $60 so we expected aerated greens or something but I swear the course was better than any of the summer rounds I've played here throughout the years. Easily one of my favorite courses in all of NJ.
Never got to play
The course overbooked or outing got backed up.
Told us we were “at least” a 45 min wait.
That meant we may not even get 9 in.
I will never come back (paying) for this course again
It started with a pro shop clerk demanding we check in except we had been at the course, standing outside of the Pro Shop waiting for someone to turn the lights on.
Then, he wished me triple putts bc I wasn’t nice to him.
Course was below average and on hole was a make up par 3 for the 9th hole par 4. How do you reconcile that?
Grass around the greens was 4-5 inches deep telling me they don’t cut the grass very often. This is supposed to be a “playable public course” and not one to get insulted by the help and having to hack out of deep green side grass.
I will be posting this in IG, Facebook as well as word of mouth.
Always a pleasure to play the course. Brian and his staff are top notch. Very fun layout.
Course conditions have deteriorated
I have been playing Golden Pheasant golf course for many years. The course conditions weren’t great 10+ years ago. Then, Brian (Mgr./Pro) and his team were hired from WillowBrook golf course (now defunct) and course conditions greatly improved.
I recently played Golden Pheasant and have to say course conditions have surprisinly deteriorated. First, many of tee boxes are partially deadpan. The tee boxes need regular seeding, fertilizing, and repair (as needed). Second, the bunkers are in TERRIBLE condition. The bunkers lack sufficient quantity and quality of sand. All the bunker sand should be replaced with bright white sand. This is an inexpensive fix which can greatly improve the play and look of the bunkers. Third, a good amount of crabgrass has come into many of the fairways. Did the maintenance team not spread pre-emergent crabgrass preventer last spring? Lastly, the greens were aerated which made putting the ball true impossible. Green aeration does not upset me because aeration is necessary. What upsets me is the fact I was not informed by the Pro Shop the greens had been aerated when I made my tee time reservation. I would have likely booked my tee time reservation at another golf course. Greens aeration notice is a common courtesy by most golf courses.
Overall, I now rate the course conditions 3 out of 5. Given such, the current fee to play Golden Pheasant golf course is overpriced. I am seeing similar high pricing at other courses where course conditions are also not stellar. Golf course owners continue to over charge to use their product while investing less in their product. At some point, the public needs to push back and say “ I am no longer paying high tee time prices to play mediocre manicured golf courses”. Sadly, there are too many “golf-o-holics” who will pay any price to get their regular golf play fix.
Enough said!
Tight course, up and back, dirt tee boxes, overpriced
Course was short from senior and ladies tees. Tee boxes mostly dirt. Greens were recently air raided so front nine was tough for putting very bouncy. Most holes were straight, up and down and on top of each other. The par 3s were unique. Very overpriced. Not worth the money they charge. Most likely one and done with this course. The rough could have been cut.
