About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Pleasurable round
Sent off as a 2some at 6:15 and we were done by 9am. It was a nice relaxing round that while played fast, we did not feel rushed or slowed at all.
Conditions were great with so much rest. Greens were fast - nicer than others in the area that have seemed slow.
I've walked the course before too. It's not overly difficult to walk but there are some moderate hills.
Excellent Semi-Private Course
Great course overall, with an interesting layout and excellent conditions. The course isn't overly long (roughly 6,200 from White and 6,500 from Blue) but remains challenging with tough uphill/downhill shots and often, your second shot requires some more thought. By far my favorite hole is number 9, which forces a 140-160 yard second shot over water to an elevated green, and rewards precision.
Off-course amenities also include a putting green, chipping green, and driving range which offers shot-tracking tech that makes warming-up a better experience.
Greens nice
Nice quick greens. Great overall condition. A few stupid holes but some nice ones. Pace was slowish, but it was a Sunday.
Excellent layout and conditions
Really enjoyed this course. Tough and challenging layout especially not knowing the course. The course was beautifully kept and I appreciated the dividers in the cart due to covid. I recommend this course for anyone who loves the game.
Great course
had 6 birdies and 1 eagle. Drained one from 150 out for eagle shot 65 so yes I love this course
Good course tough greens
Good over all course the green s are extremely fast sloped so if it doesn't go in the hole you will have a long put after. Resident s get discount all other s pay high price. No coolers allowed
Country Club greens
First time there. Course in great shape. Finished in 4 hours
Greens in great shape and were quick for public course. U def would like to be putting from below the hole whenever possible. Overall in very nice shape, looking forward to visiting again.
Beautiful
First course I played 20 years ago, don’t remember being so nice. Conditions were flawless probably due to lack of play in the pandemic. Unfortunately was not given a cart when told that they would be available, because it’s a tough course to walk it being hilly and all.
Unreal
Played a twilight round and got a full 18 in. Unreal course conditions
Immaculate
course is in pristine shape. . With covid rules of 2 golfers at a time only, played in 3 hours with individual cart.
Surly staff
Early season play, course did not honor golf now price, charged $50, Pace of play awful course condition below average, layout challenge not memorable in any way. Needless to say I will not be back.
