About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Probably the worst course I've ever been. Can't even call it a golf course. The people were rude, people behind us hitting balls without giving us warning, workers there are rude and ask you to pace up. Food was horrible and they just definitely get rid of this crap place.
Almost NYE golf
Started letting us out around 9:45. Went out as a double with a 4some behind us. Never saw them. Course was in decent condition considering late December and recent rain. Greens in good shape too. Overall a nice day.
Impressive
Interesting layout, good conditions and very sophisticated greens for a public course. Will come here again without question.
Nice course with slick greens on hilly property
I found this to be a nice course with lots of interesting holes. The property has nice elevations and lots of undulating fairways. The greens are smallish and have very substantial slopes and banks. There are a good number of elevated greens protected by large bunkers, usually on one side. A few holes have views of an adjacent lake. A number of fairways turn or are angled to the tee and there are a number of blind shots nicely incorporated into the routing. A number of holes seem tightly fit but not confining. It's a decent parkland muni.
Rivervale
Nice course. Some very pretty views. Accommodating staff. Very fun to play. Layout is a little confusing. Does not detract from the experience.. First timers give yourself a little extra time to get there. Google maps boluxed the directions. I hope to go back. New
Much improved
I play here couple times a year. The course has gone through some solid improvement. The greens are on par with pricey country clubs in the area. The fairways and tee boxes are good. The layout is fun and challenging. A good mix of holes that make you think about your shots. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I wish the price was a little better but I get it....it's a pricey piece of real estate. the food in the bar is good.
Very fast green that make you more difficult to score but fun to play
My 1st time at River Vale CC
This was my first visit to River Vale Country Club and I will be back. The course was in excellent condition and the greens rolled very well.
I liked the layout was it forced me to take different clubs off of the tee and also position it well.
The only slight complaints would be the pace of play and lack of repaired ball marks by the groups in front of us.
Great conditions
RVCC is in the best shape I’ve seen it in the last 10 years. Great job!
Hot and muggy
Well drained with all the rain but the rough was impenetrable. Added 5 shots to the score.
Well maintained a wonderful layout much harder than the scorecard would indicate
Hit it straight or go home
Slooow
Played 4.5 hours and only finished 15 holes. The group in front of us held up the entire course. The ranger tried to get them to pick up the pace, but it simply didn’t register.
