Spooky Brook Golf Course
About
Spooky Brook Golf Course in Somerset is a player-friendly course that is perfect for beginners. It offers just enough of a challenge but it still allows you some room for error. At 6,655 yards from the back tees, the golf course is relatively short but the greens, tees, and fairways offer plenty of room. The mostly flat terrain makes for an enjoyable walk and it's also wide open. While the golf course may not be the most formidable test, it does have a few challenges in store. Water has a presence throughout the course, especially on the back nine. Whether or not you are looking to hone your skills or if you want a casual round, the well maintained golf course appeals to any skill level. In addition to the course, Spooky Brook G.C. also has a driving range that you can use to warm-up.

Good value
Got a good deal from Golfnow . Straight forward and relatively flat course. Fairways and greens in good condition . Can't say the staff was friendly and one of the negatives were that you cannot drive the gas carts to the parking lot and they make you carry your bags more than 100yrds..
Thankfully there's 1 million other golf courses go play
Worst experience I've had trying to go play a round of golf.
I showed up to my tee time with one other person alittle behind but still made it to the Teebox five minutes prior to our tee time ready to go. We were met there it's just straight up disrespect(shaking his head in disappointment stomping his feet walking back-and-forth lecturing us on why we have to be here 20 minutes prior to our tee time )maybe he was just having a bad day but listen but we just paid 100 and something dollars to have a good round of golf not be lectured because a little bit of traffic. We went into the pro shop and asked for a refund And got it then the starter came in and apologized with a disrespectful smug look on his face acting like we were out of line for asking for a refund and when we confronted him we were told to leave and never come back.Normally I'm not the type of person to write a bad review but the disrespect and total lack of professionalism forced me to write this so other people could know their money is well spent somewhere else . A waste of a day of golf, hour and a half ride and 5 dollar reservation fee To golf now
Great to pace to play!
Course was very nice and workers were all nice and helpful. Well worth the cost. Will 100% be back.
Spooky Brook
I decided to get a quick twilight round in as I had some time to kill. I'm glad I decided to go to Spooky, as I had a great time.
Walking alone, I ended up pairing up with a group of 2, and another single player, all walking.
We all played at a pretty quick pace, only having to wait at 1 or 2 holes for no longer than 5 minutes. What amazed me were the greens. Although there were some divots around the greens, what I thought was the best part of this course were the greens. The ball was rolling really nice, probably nicer than I have seen in a while.
The course plays pretty straight-forward, nothing too crazy challenging. We played the back 9, and I got holes 1, 2, and 3 in after our back 9.
I normally do not walk, but after yesterday, I plan on walking more as I enjoyed it. This course is good for walking because it is for the most part flat.
I would highly recommend this course if you are in the area. The staff was friendly with me, as I wanted to walk on without a tee time. The person inside the Pro Shop nicely asked to just confirm with the starter as there was a league going on. When asking the starter, he gave me a response like "yeah you can play, this is golf!" kind of mentality. Got me excited to get out there and play.
Overall, great day even with the random patches of rain. It turned out to be a decent evening,. Even though I still shot like garbage. But hey, that's the game of golf.
Very pretty, interesting, forgiving
I enjoyed the course. It's in good condition with quick and interesting greens. Large putting and chipping area near the practice range. And, as forgiving the course is, if you hit far off the fairway, the tall grass is tough to search through.
Spooky Brook Golf Course is Great
Spooky Brook may look easy but it isn't It is a great walking course from green to tee, well laid out with hidden challenges for every golfer. The pace of play is usually quite good...4 1/2 hours and under. Fairways in good shape and nice trees, some flowering, some pine. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Benches at forward tees for the ladies and seniors
Not so spooky
Came back to play for second time in 2 years. Course is in good condition for both fairway and green. Even though green was bit slow it's fair considering it's January. This course may be easy for lower handicap but still enjoyable and for high HCP it's nice course to sharpen your skill without being too much intimidation.
Late spring round
I booked a 4 some on Golf Now for a reduced rate in November and got fairly lucky with weather. A little disappointed that no cancellations can be done (one member got sick and couldn't come) but otherwise booking was good. Course was in very good shape but it would have been helpful if staff blow the leaves this time of year because anything not in the fairway really presents a challenge to find. My only real complaint is NO FOOD CART or VENDING area!!!!!! Vending machine only??? That's ridiculous to expect golfers to be out on a course for 4-5 hours with nothing to eat. Staff was very friendly and pace of play wasn't too bad. Definitely a nice wide open course to play with length and some difficulty to challenge your game while flat enough to walk without wearing you out. I will definitely go back, just bring my own cooler and food
It was very Spooky
I am just joking about it being spooky. It was just before Halloween so there was a bunch of golfers in costume. I really enjoyed this course. It was 45 degrees and I still enjoyed it. The course was in beautiful shape. I am used to golfing at Bunker Hill in Princeton which is an absolute dump in comparison. I was impressed with the nice green fairways and rough, the sand traps with actual sand in them and the fact that there wasn't a lot of leaves on the course. At Bunker Hill the sand traps have dirt in them, the fairways are burned up and there are leaves everywhere. I'm happy I found this gem. Thanks Spooky Brook. I'll be back.
A good course to work on your game
Spooky Brook is fairly open, wide course and is excellent for working on your game. The greens had been aerated a few weeks prior and were slow and bumpy. Normally the green are quite smooth and fast, so speed control was off.
SPOOKY BROOK
THE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND I GOT THERE EARLY AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT RIGHT AWAY. FAIRWAYS ARE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. IT HAS BEEN DRY AROUND HERE LATELY BUT THE GREENS ROLLED GREAT.I HATE IT WHEN YOU HAVE WORK AT PUTTING YOUR TEE IN THE GROUND BUT HAD NO PROBLEM HERE. FOR A COUNTY COURSE IT WAS VERY PLEASANT AND I WOULD PLAY IT AGAIN.
Very nice green conditions
This was my second time playing at Spooky Brook, and I liked the second time better than my first time. For some reason, green conditions were much better than before (first time was good too). The course has relatively short par-5's, but par-4's and par-3's are reasonable. I would rank Spooky Brook as top-3 golf courses around New Brunswick (1. Neshanic Valley, 2. Quail Brook, 3. Spooky Brook).
Open Fairways and Easy to Walk
This is a great course if you want to just have fun and not face a lot of challenging holes. The course if fairly flat so it is a nice walk (even for 18 holes). The fairways are wide so if you tend to "spray" you drives, you won't loose too many balls. Basically there is not a lot of trouble.
There are a few holes that are more interesting (challenging) for the better golfer. The most notable is 17, which requires a carry over a pond for your second shot. This is the one hole that can back up because many golfers layup before hitting a third shot over the pond.
The staff is friendly and the price is fair if you have a county card (which gives you a discount) but I am not sure if it is the best value if you are paying out of county rates.
Like a lot of the somerset country courses there is no pub/grill at the turn and no drink cart on the course, so bring water and snacks. You can buy water and chips from a vending machine.
If you want more of a challenge, another country course is Quail Brook. It is just a few miles away from Spooky Brook. You could play both courses and decide which one you like better. My favorite is Quail Brook (but the back nine is hilly so you might want to ride; unless you normally walk when you play).
I play all the county courses and Spooky Brook is the best course to walk (especially in the heat of summer) but for those that like to ride, they do have golf carts.
Nice course but not worth money
They must have spoken to the staff because they were all friendly. The course was pretty burnt out due to the weather. Greens were in good shape. It's not a difficult or challenging course, actually kind of boring. No food available. Being out of county we paid $54 for a round and frankly I feel that was steep for the course. I've played many other superior courses for less. However, I'm not saying don't go.
Good County Course
Not crowded, staff EXCELLENT, in great shape, would play again. Bunkers need new sand!!
Great track.. Just needs a ranger
Played late noon time, the greens and fairways were excellent condition. We had 1 group of 3 in front of us who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, so their scattered shooting left us waiting behind them from the start.. We asked to play through as they didn't offer but it wasn't a friendly reception. The ranger came by and said nothing to them too (that's poor) there was 2 full wide open homes ahead of them so the slowness clearly was on them. They finally sped up around 14...14holes too late. But the course aside from them, was GREAT for a public track. I will absolutely be back.
Great Course for Beginners & Experts
I went to this course a couple of months ago and just played yesterday. It's fairly open, so it's good for the beginners. It's forgiving if you happen to spray the ball. For experts, you'll love this course because you can really score on it, but it's also got its challenges. I'll definitely be back. However, the greens were a bit slow and not very consistent.
The only problem that we encountered was with the facility's water. The water was apparently contaminated, and the staff provided water BUT CHARGED FOR IT! It isn't any of the golfer's fault that their water supply was contaminated, and to charge $1.00 for water was a bit ridiculous. They should have offered at least one free bottle to the players.
Wonderful course
This was my 1st visit to Spooky Brook and can not wait to go back. The staff was exccellent which is not always the case when booking thru Golf Now. For a county course the conditions were terrific. The greens were in very good condition and played fair. The combination of a freindly staff and good pace made it one of my best rounds of the year.
Pleasantly surprised
I was very impressed with the changes that were made to this course since I last played it many years ago. They grew out some of the areas with tall wispy rough which used to be just regular sized rough about 2" high. This change added more challenges than in the past which made a relativity easy course a little more challenging. Greens were in excellent shape.
GOOD JOB Somerset County.
