Quail Brook Golf Course
About
Quail Brook Golf Course in Somerset is one of central New Jersey's top public courses. The challenging design is a favorite amongst local golfers. The layout has a diverse mix of holes, some of which are spacious and wide-open and others that are rolling and tight. Although the golf course may seem short at 6,630 yards from the back tees, don't be fooled by the yardage. The course can feel much longer thanks to the hilly terrain. The front nine has subtler undulations while the back nine is dramatically hilly, which makes it a tough course to walk. Quail Brook Golf Course's undulating fairways lead to challenging sloped greens that are framed with strategically placed bunkers. There aren't too many opportunities for driving, but your short game will definitely get a workout.

Really Fast Greens
Play twice a week just about everywhere. These greens (cup cut about 10 feet from edge on each) were the fastest my son and I have played in two years. Otherwise, course in tip top condition and look forward to playing it again. I was pleasantly surprised to find the sand traps were done on a Monday and the cups freshly cut. (always play on Monday) THIS is my biggest complaint on ANY COURSE.
The right mix of fun and challenging
This is an excellent public course. I like it because it is challenging (the pin placements can be really tricky and the greens fast) but it is fun and the pace of play was great. We finished in 4 hours and 10 minutes on a busy summer Saturday.
I do recommend you ride for 18 holes. The first nine are an easy walk but the back nine is on the other side of the road and so the walk/ride is much longer between holes. However, if you really like to walk ask the locals for the shortcuts.
The staff is great and very friendly and welcoming to women. The head pro is Mike Havay. I took lessons from Mike before I ever played the course, and he is a great golf teacher.
It is a great price. My friend and I were paired with a Pro from Conn. (he as visiting friends in NJ) and he said the fee was really fair given the wonderful condition of the course. If you have a county card the value is even better!
go early
Greens are fast and tricky especially on back 9 several times hit the green 5 years in front of flag only to watch it speed on bye the flag to back of green and a 60 foot putt
Golf Now saved me some MONEY!!!
I used to play Somerset County, New Jersey courses all of the time a few years ago but they kept raising the green fees especially for out of county players. My regular course - Rutgers University - was closed for a tourney so I booked Quailbrook on Golf Now! I'm so glad I did! I saved $16.00 in green fees and the course was in excellent shape. It was $50.00 w/cart. Thanks Golf Now. Will look forward to booking with you often!!!
Great value
Enjoyed it, many holes reminded me of Rutgers Golf Course. Definitely suggest driving the course as some holes are farther away then you'd usually want to walk.
Great golf course
Great lay out, fun to play. Condition was great. Green was in great shape. I paid $54 for a round. I will visit again soon.
Great back nine.
Very good experience, however, we got lost finding our way a couple times in the back nine. In light of the heat, a beverage cart would have come in handy (we played on a Sunday). Back nine was varied and very pretty.
Quail Brook - Fun Course
Great Day - Fun Time. Staff overworked but friendly, county tee system may cause pricing confusion. Bring Confirmation printout.
Located in a housing development but set-back far from homes so it is never an issue and most location you never see a home.
For under $30 it is a get course, but the green are aerated, but this is to be expected for December, so firm putts are required to be successful. Other than the greens the course was in great shape. There is little elevation change and minimal water hazards making it a fairly straight forward course to play.
Fun Back 9
Awesome all around muni course. Front 9 is a little flat and great to get you into the groove while the back 9 has plenty of dips, hills and sloping fairways to challenge with blind drives and, if you hit it short, blind approaches. Has practice range and green.
NIce county course with great price from Golfnow
I played with my friend in a nice afternoon with very few golfers on the course. The course is well maintained. Every bunker was wrecked. The leaves were cleaned on fairway and rough. The only complaint is that green was aerating. We had fun to play in our own pace without waiting or being pushed. .
While we are well into October the course was in very nice condition.
While Somerset County course can be quite expensive for non-county residents, the GolfNow price was reasonable considering the normal cost of golf in central NJ.
While a little shorter than some ful-length courses, it was fun and an ideal course for the higher handicap players. There is no water that figures into the normal path of play and fairways are relatively wide. On the other hand, the greens are undulating and the breaks on even the shortest putt can be challenging.
Greens, fairways and sand traps were all well maintained.
Great Value in Central NJ
I was pleasantly surprised by this course. Got a good deal on Golfnow and didn't want to travel too far because of bad weather coming and this course was really nice. I like water hazards and hitting over them and there were no hazards here, but overall, a very well cared for course. The greens were very nice and rolled fairly true. Deer were everywhere, scenery was very nice and the fairways were green and lush. Read in other reviews that the fairways were narrow and this was a challenging course, but I disagree, as most holes had plenty of room to tee off down the fairway. I will definitely be back to Quail Brook and would highly recommend it.
Great Course!! All greens were rolling consistently!!
This course was well maintained and greens were rolling in decent speed and consistently through out entire course.
Layout was also well designed for a county course.
definitely recommend.
This course is well maintained
The fairways are great and the greens roll really nice
Scenery is very beautiful and the wild life are very friendly lol
Didn't like the driving range but all in all the course is very nice
Nice layout
Very nice course laid out very well. This is a great track for all levels of golfers. If you enjoy wildlife, you will see more deer than squirls here, they are eveywhere and not afraid of people. The course was in very good shape, the greens were reasonably fast and true, bunkers were in good shape and the courses was fun to play.
Nice Course
We got a 1:40 tee time and the course was wide open. We didn't have top wait for the group in front and the group behind us was a hole and a half back. The greens are very well maintained but very difficult.
The course is well worthy to your dollar
The staff in the course was extremely friendly, and the fairway and green were well maintained.
