Lots of dog legs
This course is all dog legs! It makes you think of where to hit to. For December most leaves were cleared, I was able to find my ball most of the time.
Leaves everywhere
Played on the 21st of Nov.. Course was overwhelmed by leaves.... poorly maintained. Leaves everywhere even in the sand traps. If you plan on playing this course do it in the spring or summer. FORGET ABOUT THE FALL.
Spook Rock 11/8
Arrived at the course not knowing what to expect and received a good welcome from the course manager. The Pro shop is small and has a limited supply of items. Putting green and driving range are more than adequate. Golf today was winter rules as it rained the night before leaving the ball muddy shot after shot. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Leaves lined both sides of most fairways making it difficult to find the ball if you had an errant shot.
I would suggest that players playing this course for the first time to play with someone that has local knowledge of the layout. The restaurant on the turn had my food ready to go and was reasonably priced. I look forward to returning and playing the course again.
Nice
Nice old course. Check in and cafe a bit out dated but a decent track. A bit expensive as compared to non municipal courses but worth playing.
Horrible Experience
Arrived for my 2:42 tee time and was sent out without any mention of the TWO tournaments happening at the course that day. Also, no mention of the absurd overbooking they had done. An hour in and we had completed three holes total. After three hours I gave up after the front nine was completed. A complete and utter waste of a Saturday afternoon.
When I tried to address the issue with the millennial at the check in desk I was told I should have expected a slow pace and that I was wrong to assume I'd be able to play an entire round in five hours.
No acknowledgment that they were wrong to book people and not warn them about the potential slow play. They had my money, they didn't care. Save yours. This place is run terribly. Which is too bad because for a county course it's actually in decent shape overall.
Great Public Course
It's a pleasure playing at a public course that is in good shape!
Solid overall track with great conditions
Heard many positive things about Spook Rock and was glad I got the chance to play it. Also abouts it's slow play but playing on a Tuesday it wasn't a factor. It's a solid layout, different types of tee shots are needed on different types of holes to score. Working the ball both ways is necessary to get yourself in good position on approaches. Various holes are picturesque and course conditions for the most part great. Ruff was a little high so missing fairways was a bit more penal. Tee boxes were in great shape with little to no broken tees laying around, fairways were lush, and the undulating greens were great with little to no ball marks on them. Definitely one of the best public tracks I have played in proximity to NYC. I actually used all 14 clubs in my bag so hole variations were great. Food at the halfway house was tasty and staff was super friendly. Just a great change of scenery from NYC courses.
Slow Play
Left after 10 holes. Waiting 10 minutes on every shot. Slow play caused by group in front walking from cart parked on path to ball then hitting shot 10 feet and dropping another ball.
Slow play
There's a lot of people that walk this course. we booked it on GolfNow which included a cart. we waited to tee off every hole and waited for her second shot also . I think we would of enjoyed the round more if we walked
Strange ranger
Course was in decent condition considering the rain, although it was cart path only. Fairways and greens were soft and the beginners foursome were bit slow but still just over 2 hour nine holes pace. At the tenth tee speed of play got much slower and the starter strangely suggested to us whether we wanted to play the first nine again. I declined and kept playing the back nine but then noticed that the same ranger rode along with the foursome in front on every hole even playing a few shots himself! He told me at the turn that he would "tell the group in front of us to speed it up"? He was playing with them...strange way to manage the pace of play as a ranger...
Crawling at Spook Rock
Not a bad course but PAINFULLY slow. No rangers to move things along. Bathroom had 3 out of 4 toilets broken. Facilities at the course were just "ok". I'd give it a 6 out of 10
Nice tree lined track
Enjoyed the day - great starter helped us get going and did not feel rushed the whole day. Greens a little on the slow side and tricky to read. And watch out on #18 - don't try and cut the corner, on the left side is OB w/ the driving range runs along that side ...
Nice Track
Course was in good shape and pace of play was just over 4 hrs for a 12pm tee time. The woman at the registration desk definitely had an attitude problem. Not the person you want players to have a first impression of the course. Otherwise a very enjoyable round.
