Christmas Day golf
First time playing this course which all three of us liked. The layout was great and each hole is different. It was a rare course open on Christmas Day. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Hurricane damage to trees was all cleaned up. The conditions were good considering the weather and recent hurricane but the fairways could use some water and greens were somewhat sandy and slow. For the price the course was a very good value.
Playing on Sanibel Island
This golf course and the people who run it are excellent.
The course is challenging and the scenery is Beautiful.
There is some hurricane damage but it looks like it has improved the fairways and greens a lot with the extra water. I never found a bad lie I did not deserve.
play this course and enjoy the views and the solitude. I played as a single and finished my round in less then 3 hours. Awesome experience.
Enjoy Hans
A fun island course
Being one of the only public courses on Sanibel Island in Florida, this course holds it own. I was surprised at the lack of a range, but they had a nice practice putting green at least. The clubhouse is nice and they have a great restaurant attached to the clubhouse. Staff was extremely friendly and really made me feel like a valued customer. It was not very busy, so the pace was set by me, which I liked. Greens were nice and firm, well maintained. Course has some very cool holes and very neat par 3's. They warn you of Gators hanging out in the traps, I only saw one swimming but that was cool. This is a very quiet course and a nice place to spend an afternoon.
unkempt and neglected course
i had played this course in july 2017. Service for cleaning the club was bad. I had missing the service with drinks and snacks. The golf course has an very sad designed and unkempt and neglected.
Course needs work
We were excited to golf at Sanibel. And when we arrived we were basically the only ones on the course. But we soon found out why. The course was in terrible condition. Every green looked like it had had acid poured on it. There was more sand than grass on them. This course has great potential. The setting is beautiful. We were also challenged by the placement of the pins and the proximity to water. And the course is very tight. It kind of reminded me of the Key West Golf Course (which is in great shape), except the overall condition of the course was like playing golf in a cow pasture. If I owned any one of the beautiful houses on this course I would be very upset to be on such a rough course in a very desirable area. We won't be back.
Stay Away
Yes, the rate is cheaper than the Dunes on the island but you get what you pay for there and Sanibel Island isn't worth playing. The only positive comment I can make i that the staff is friendly.
If you decide to play the course, please get something to drink in the pro shop or around the corner outside. They do not have water coolers on the course.
Guy in the pro shop told me their greens were "transitioning' from winter grass that was overseeded to the grass coming n for the summer. The actual transition was from grass to dirt.
Number #9 green was totally dead, no grass, just dirt. Greens looked like they had been verticut so putts rarely stayed online.
Layout was okay and I'm sure the course at one time was worth playing but I won't be back.
Could be a solid track
Per the staff this used to be a dog track but has improved! I would agree bc most of the greens are in really bad shape as well as half the tee boxes. Solid layout and time will tell if the course can find its way...needs persistent tlc. We paid $59 a person including cart. Don't pay over $40 at this time.
Nice scenery & layout - but poor condition
The course is located in a very nice area and has a nice layout and scenery. But when you pay that greenfee you would also expect the course to be in a better condition. Teeboxes and bunkers have been in very poor condition, the greens are also not in the best condition. Staff has been very friendly - but course is not well organized. No starter managing the groups. They also didn't notice my booking done via GolfNow - and initially charged the whole amount again (once I noticed they refunded without any problem). Worth to know that they do not have a driving range.
A bit pricey for the conditions
For a little over a hundred bucks I thought the course could have been in better shape. The greens had been sanded and sliced recently and when I commented on this, I was told that is normal and it is done monthly. It definitely affects putting. I felt there should have been a discount on the full fare rate for this. Layout is good, and interesting. Lots of different looks. Some holes a bit narrow especially from the back tees. After golf the Blue Coyote is the best. Great bar. Grate staff, Probably the best dining on the island for dinner, and definitely for lunch.
Just ok.
Starter at.7:30 am.
Pass was good
Tight course with lots of water.
Tee boxes were ok. Greens were beat up. Lots of run on the course
Too Much Money For Greens Fees
I had read the reviews, so "buyer beware". I would not play here again for the price I paid. I played because another in our group preferred to play here after playing The Dunes since The Dunes has far, far more water.
To echo other reviews, the tee boxes were generally bad. I moved the markers a few times to be able to tee off from semi-reasonable grass. I also felt the greens needed work. The fairways are an assortment of grasses, patchy, and not resulting in a consistent lie among the fairways. A ball in the fairway was always strikeable and could be played as it lay, but sometimes the grass was coarse, and sometimes finer. I wasn't always sure how the clubhead would react when contacting the turf.
Assuming the greens fees were not more than $45, this would be acceptable for the playing conditions. The laws of supply and demand would mean that lower fees would generate more play and more income for maintenance and improvements.
It could be a good, playable track if better maintained.
Tee boxes were atrocious. Greens were in horrible condition. Inaccurate yardage markers.
