Golfer Reviews
Questionable closure
Played a nice first 9 holes in very dry conditions, at the turn stopped in the awesome Green Tee Grill for quick bite, while a thunderstorm blew over. it rained for approx 45 min. Having lived in WNC for 50 years this is a typical afternoon thunder shower. Waited for the the water on the greens to soak in and as we were teeing off on 10 we were very surprised when the ranger told us that the course was closed. The sun was out and the rain has quit so it seemed like a questionable decision. Especially considering as we left the course there were players still on many of the front 9 holes. We did receive rain checks but didn’t feel closure was necessary, especially since it was only 2:00P and there was a good 5-6 hours of daylight left.
Fun Course
Started well with a friendly greeting from the gentleman at the counter. I definitely needed the map he gave me to find the next hole a couple of times. I really struggled to read the greens, but they all rolled very well. I will definitely play again next time I'm in town! I did manage to birdie the par 6!
Good but not great
One 4some, playing REALLY slow held up 3 groups. If they added a Marshall to keep play moving it would make it more fun to play.
Black Mountain
Fun course but it was so slow, we waited every shot and this was a Thursday noon round. Many unmowed areas in which to lose your ball. Nice layout, ok conditions. Greens we're much slower than practice green. For the money though, it's hard to beat. Would pay more if the course was in better condition. I understand it's run by the city. They really need to spend a few dollars.
Ups and Downs
I really wanted to like this course more. The greens were well-maintained and rolled mostly fast and true. There were some areas that needed repair. The layout, especially on the back 9, was quite challenging and narrow. It kind of walked you through from easy to punishing, and there's even a par 6! The pro shop was mostly non-existent. We started behind a glacially slow string of players and waited a minimum of 5 minutes on every tee box all day. It really wore on us by the 3rd hour. Took a lot of the fun out of it. No one out keeping pace.
Best course ever!!!
Challenging and in perfect condition. Love love love this place. Longest green ever
BMGC looking great!
We played Memorial Day and the course was busy, however pace of play was excellent. Tee to green the course was in very good shape. The Green Tee Grill was serving awesome handhelds and the staff was extremely helpful and courteous.
Highly recommend
A little outdated but totally worth it!
Seems like the facilities could use a little TLC and the course itself had some rough spots, like being in the fairway and it was either flooded or overgrown. Also around the greens the fringe had times where it was just so overgrown you might as well been in the rough but you are like 8 feet from the pin. Other than that amazing round, great staff, and awesome price point. Will definitely be back.
