Change the pins more than once a week!
This course is scenic, great layout, variety of holes, very fair, but it doesn't seem like it gets much love from a maintenance standpoint. We play here all summer, and the pins are only changed once a week. After 3 days, the areas around the hole are bumpy and worn, and the holes are collapsing around the edges. It's hard to even keep score when the greens get like that.
Meanwhile, the fairways only get mowed once a week too. We have to play winter rules all the time. There's more to keeping a course in shape than having it look green from the clubhouse deck.
Some areas developed a fungus and there are dead patches forming. Happened last year too. I guess they don't bother using fungicide?
We just wish management would take ownership of this lovely course. It's a real shame. Seems like a simple thing to at least change the pins twice a week, or even daily like almost every other course on the planet.
Bottom line, this course is still fine to play, but is woefully unmaintained. Connestee is a thriving community, but doesn't seem to value its greatest asset. It's time to put some money and care into this gem of a course. .
Rough
The bad:
First thing I'd like to start off saying is that i have never left a review for a golf course before. I'm not picky on course conditions or pace of play, but my recent experience with this course drove me over the edge. I realize that it has been hot and dry in the area, but other courses do not seem to be having these problems or atleast this severe of problems. The gentleman in the pro shop stated there were some "dry brown" areas on the course but I wasn't off put with the statement. After the first 3 holes I came to the realization that his statement was grossly understated. The course looks like it has some sort of fungus. Every fairway, tee box, and areas around the green have MAJOR areas that literally have no grass. I hit the first four fairways and did not have a decent lie on any shot. The fairways have crab grass growing in them and the length of the fairway that actually does have some grass is the length of the first cut of rough at any other course. After the first two holes, if I missed a green, I was praying that I even had grass around the ball. There were multiple areas around every green where you would be hitting off dirt. Multiple greens also had mud tire tracks in certain places surrounding the greens. The pace of play was incredibly slow. We were a twosome so I can't expect much on a holiday weekend and I understand that. However I didn't think we'd have a 25 min wait on the 10th tee box even after we joined another twosome. Seeing the backup on the 10th tee I decided to run in to get a hotdog/Powerade, and Coke. The total came out to something like 17.02. The lady behind the counter said "we don't have any quarters or dimes. I have two Nickles and then a lot of pennies. Do you want the two Nickles and 88 pennies?" I simply told her to keep it.... Literally have never seen this before.
We waited on literally every tee shot and approach shot for 18 holes. There was also no ranger to be seen in our 5.5 hour round.
The good:
Greens were surprisingly decent compared to the rest of the course. Recently aerated so some bumps were expected. The staff was alright but didn't do anything to go out of their way for anyone there. Looks like a nice clubhouse with amenities of tennis courts, work out facility, and I believe a pool.
Overall:
Horrible course conditions. I understand you can't change the weather, but Jesus. This is the worst conditioned course I have played in my lifetime. For the value it is not worth it.
Love the Course
we love the course. the only downside is the distance from Hendersonville and the lack of cell phone coverage. it does not allow us to use our Golf Logix app
Excellent fairways with great views
Overall the course was in great shape and the pace of play was perfect. The only negatives were the clubhouse needs some updating and the golf pro who checked us in needs some people skills training.
Great mountain course
Beautiful mountain views. Great fairways and true greens. My only problem was the round took over 5 hours, partly because of a lightning delay.
We will definitely play this course again.
One of the best...
Connestee Falls is one of the best courses in Western NC. It's not brutally tough like some of the other mountain courses in the area, but is still very challenging. With many elevated greens and tee boxes, you have to choose your club correctly. Add in a few doglegs and enough water to keep you honest and you're set for a fun round.
Enjoyable mountain course
Pretty decent landing areas for a mountain course. Fairways in good condition and greens very good. Each hole offered a secluded feeling: other holes not visible in most cases. Not the punishing side hill lies and steep uphill climbs that characterize other courses in the area.
Nice course
Great course, nice layout. Would recommend to a friend. Great wildlife views.
Excellent course
Beautiful greens and fairways. Staff is very friendly. We did not eat there, so no review.
Very Nice time had by all
Besides my awful putting everything was beautiful. Very nice course and looking forward to playing it again,
a mountain favorite
Could use a starter. Things tend to get bunched up on weekends when members race to tee box to get ahead of those with tee times.
A Great Day in the Mountain Woods
This beautiful mountain layout was gorgeous. Course conditions were just great with beautifully mowed fairways and smooth rolling greens. Many picturesque tee shots hitting down the fairways or into the par threes. Not too many bunkers to make it impossible to get into the greens. Lots of variety of hole design keeping things interesting and many young deer roaming through the course giving us the joy of spotting some wildlife in their natural habitat. We played in the afternoon, getting a discount on the golfnow booking and felt we had the course to ourselves like our own private layout. Overall, an exceptional golf outing.
beautiful course
Great course would like to know when booking on golf now if course is having a tournament.
like to feel welcome
We booked our T-time for 8:18, call the course to confirm & everything was fine. This was not a Hot Deal so we paid our green fee @ the counter & was ready to play. A bus load of 20 players arrived at 8:00 & the person in the Pro shop said we would have to wait until they went off. There is no way you can get 20 players of between 8:00 & 8:18. We asked if we could go off the back & we got a sharp NO. I told them I would not book with them again & I got a quick, that's fine. A polite way would have been for they to send us off in front & we would have been gone in 10:00 minutes. With his tone in his reply, I then said we would not be back & again I got a quick reply of, THAT'S FINE! it seems they don't appreciate outside play that is booked through another organization.
Course Management & Pace of Play not Desirable
Played as Single. Pro at check in said there were two 4-somes in front of me that went out about "40 minutes ago". When I go to #2 there was a guy playing and with his wife(riding). Looked like he was "working on his game"...no etiquette even after 5 holes would not let me play throught. To add insult to injury...there was a Dad & Son in front of them...giving Son "lessons"...
I was so tired of waiting that I skipped 8 & 9 and drove to the clubhouse. The Pro had not remembered he told me there were only two foresomes in front of me and did not know about these two other small groups...very mis-managed in m
Nice!
Although some of the greens were hard from recent cold weather, the course was in really good shape. From the time you exit your vehicle you are treated like royalty. Short game is a must with many elevated greens. Several holes where your driver should stay in the bag. A fabulous course.
Beautiful and challenging!
Beautiful course in great condition! Probably saw 100 deer while playing. Challenging course with great views! Greens are fast!
Excellent layout and value for the NC Mountains
Came across Connestee Falls on golfnow.com and am glad I did. Less than 75 minutes from Greenville and 60 minutes from Asheville it was the perfect meeting spot for the two of us that played in mid-October. Fall golf in the NC/SC mountains is spectacular and Connestee Falls is no exception.
The course was in excellent shape with the exception of numerous ball marks left by previous players. The rough was thick and penal, but good shots were always rewarded. The elevation changes in the course were great. Numerous uphill and downhill holes and the course required every club in the bag.
Use the yardage book as there are several holes, including par 5's, where driver will be too much club off the tee, and going through the fairway is not a good option. Small greens on short approach shots, and larger greens on longer approaches, but because of the elevated greens in most cases, missing to the wrong side will be costly with balls running up to 20 yards away.
We were greeted by a herd of deer on the first tee and lost count of how many were roaming the course, but it was more than 30. What a fabulous experience with the wildlife, trees changing colors and vistas to enjoy throughout the round.
I highly recommend Connestee Falls to anyone in the Asheville through Greenville area looking for an incredible value on golfnow.com.
Connestee Falls Golf Club
The Pro Shop staff was very cordial and helpful. The course was outstanding, one of the finest courses I have ever played. The course was in pristine condition and the greens were well maintained. The front nine was beautiful and challenging. The fairways are wide and the elevation changes formidable. The front nine was practice for the back. On the back nine, the elevation changes are breathtaking. Most courses have a "memorable" hole. Every hole on this course is memorable. There was every kind of variation from dramatic elevated tees, to dramatic elevated greens. You can bite off as much as you can drive from the tee boxes. The degree of difficulty is wide. I have played all the other public access courses in Hendersonville, NC and this by far was the most memorable. If you want to play a mountain course, this is a must.
Great Mountain Course!
Course was well maintained. Fairways good, greens running about 9-10, tees good. Not a lady friendly course because of length and mountain terrain but my wife still enjoyed playing. Lots of deer and other wildlife on course as well as scenic vistas. Will play there again. Need to be in good shape to play this course because of hilly walks to tees and greens.
