Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

don't believe thier web site
Their web site claims the course is more challaging then it really is. The course is almost completely flat and water is not as much of an issue as they let on. The course conditions are better later in the spring and early summer. Fall winter and early spring play may be a little messy. However, for the money it's not a bad round of golf as a last minute booking.
Soggy round
We played Lochmere on the morning after a heavy rain which is the absolute worst time to play this course. It doesn't drain well. All of the creeks and ponds fill up quickly and you are left with a soggy, sloppy mess. It makes for a difficult round of golf. The fairways were mostly mud as little grass had grown in yet. Other courses seem to be further along.
In good weather conditions the course is usually pretty good.
Terrible fairways
1. Greens are nice, but hard.
2. Tee boxes are just decent. Mostly hard and dirt.
3. Fairways are absolutely terrible. Probably the worst I've ever seen on a 'decent' golf course. Way too much mud and dirt. I've played this course probably twenty times in the past twenty years. Will never go back.
4. Great hot dogs.
Excellent Greens, Highly Questionable Fairways
The course layout was fun and the facilities and amenities were nice, however the fairways were literally half mud, half grass. With no recent rain it was a little unexplainable but explained the cart path only rule on that day. For 22$ on 18 holes it wasn't a bad value, but after swinging a pitching wedge and leaving that hole with half your shorts and shirt covered in mud, it was challenging. Would strongly recommend with friendlier fairways.
Lochmere
Played 18 Holes on a Friday, 11am Tee-Time. Pace of play was great. Greens are in very good shape, dry, somewhat hilly, but are rolling true. Course is an interesting layout with some dog legs, but you can use driver on all the holes if you wish to take a few chances. The only problem, and apparently it has been a problem there for a while, is drainage. We had rain Tuesday and Wednesday, and there were many fairways that had standing water on them. So I would recommend this course if it has not rained in a week, other than that, expect cart path only and some sloppy fairways.
Excellent Greens
Overall a good course. The greens were quite firm which caused the ball to bounce when hitting your approach in but they were in superb shape. Probably rolled at a 8.5-9.5 and rolled true. The rest of the course was patchy and brown (to be expected this time of the year) and some fairways were quite barren. The layout was good, fairly short but tight tree lined fairways with a few risk reward holes. Several parts of the course looked like it could flood easily. Looking forward to returning in the summer when everything is green!
The greens were good
Course has reputation for wet, muddy, fairways and sadly that was the case. More attention on having grass in the fairway would make this a quality course to play The staff was excellent
Decent course for the money
The greens were in great shape, but the fairways were very wet and muddy. The course was cart path only due to rain 2 days before I played. Enjoyed the course and will play again but won't play it again after it rained.
Too Crowded
The weather was excellent so the course was too crowded. When I reached the 10th hole, there were 4 groups on it. I had spent 2.5 hours playing the first 9, so I just gave up.
One problem with the course is that the greens do not hold, and I was constantly playing from the back fringe.
Muddy and crowded
It had rained the day before and I guess the course doesn't drain well. It was packed and slow, waiting on every shot. The greens were in good shape.
Nicely laid out course
I am a novice golfer and think Lochmere provides a nice value for the money. That being said, yesterday's xourse conditions were less than desirable. There was standing water and mud all over the course. The greens were rough and slow. There was little green grass on the fairways. I know it's still early in the season so I don't view this as their norm. I would recommend the course and look forward to playing there again.
Great Day for March Golf
Although the course was very wet, the greens were fast and smooth. With cart path only being the rule of the day, we were still able to play in 4 hours. As is usual at Lochmere, the fairways and rough was very wet, taking away from the overall experience and above average course layout.
I will come back, just not in early sprimg
best greens
they had the best greens and traps by far out of any course I have played in the triangle. I will be playing again in the near future.
great course
Day after heavy rain course was not we'll drained. Fairways had a lot of water areas, though for second shot, dry relief not close
Nice course, will be back
The course was rather spongy and wet from rain the day before but the greens were in great shape for the winter and rolling consistently. Excellent value on a hot deal tee time. I'll be back for sure.
Average
My tee time was at 1:20. I didn't get to tee off until 2. It took about 3 hours to play the front 9. There wasn't a moment I didn't have to wait to hit my next ball. Also I don't know if it was the people behind us. But they just kept hitting on too us... Saw a couple balls almost hit us. Very frustrating round of golf. Also, if you like golfing in a swamp this is the place for you.
Great value at $19
Nice course in great condition. Greens were VERY fast.
Lochmere Golf Course
The course has definitely made improvement from the first time I played it in 2013.
Enjoyable even though very wet
Challenging following heavy rain - had to stay on paths and move ball around to find dryer spots but the greens were dry and putted true. I am a big fan of bermuda greens and playing Lochmere confirmed that - they are tough to check on but do not have a lot of marks which influence putts. They put true but quick even on a wet day. The course offers every shot and is fun to play. Had some trouble with the cart cutting off after 13 holes but probably a back battery connection.
