Rocky River Golf Club at Concord
About
Rocky River Golf Club was carefully carved from lush, rolling hills and natural wetlands with the intent of preserving the beautiful terrain as much as possible. The course flows across the dramatic natural contours of the land, providing holes with plenty of elevation changes. Running alongside the rolling fairways are winding ribbons of native wetland grasses that weave through rocky outcroppings. Golfers shouldn't be surprised if they come across some of the wildlife that inhabits the course, which includes cranes, deer, and beavers. In addition to the stunning scenery, the golf course offers a challenging round. The large, contoured greens demand accurate iron play. Errant shots will find their way to the wetland areas or the patches of seeded fescue. In addition to the golf course, Rocky River offers a driving range with four target greens as well as a putting and chipping green.

This course has great features
My favorite course in Charlotte. Unfortunately this particular day was on a Monday and they scheduled a small outing in front of everyone. 18 holes took us 6 hrs to play.
Great outing
Love the course and staff looking forward to our next outing
Slow Play
Greens were excellent ....It’s been wet so the course is soggy but in good shape ...Pace of play was the issue ...It was cart path only so that didn’t help but NO ranger moving groups along caused an over 5 hour round which is ridiculous and mind numbing ...The course layout isn’t easy and the whites are too long they need to offer gold senior tees to move a few of the 150 yard drivers along
Love this course
I absolutely love this course. The greens are almost always in perfect condition however they have gone ADD on the tree cutting. Some of the holes they have cut down so many trees that it’s taking away from the character of the golf course. Would love to see them spend less time on trees that are irrelevant have more time on maybe putting some French drains in certain fairways such as number 18 to allow for better drainage. Also would love to see them put a few more dollars into the driving range. We hit off the mats almost the entire year last year with balls that were found in the woods. But all this aside it is still my favorite golf course in the area. Please redirect a little focus on a few more in Porten things.
2 inches of rain the day before made the day cart path only. Most tee boxes and several fairways were still very wet. Not much course could do about this as mother nature rules. Layout is great and greens in great shape in the middle of winter
Fun Layout, but Soggy Conditions
Rocky River is an interesting layout, with the front nine more of an open links-style course and the back nine more tucked in the woods. Most holes were well designed with plenty of challenges. Pretty neat playing in the backdrop of the Dragway and Speedway as well. On this day, conditions were soaking wet as it has rained several days prior, and it was cart path only which slowed play, but we still finished in 4:30. I also read it can get pricey in the summer (over $60). And the amenities leave something to be desired (older clubhouse, no chipping area, irons-only range). It's a fun course, though, and definitely worth a play as it's on the nicer side of public courses in the area.
OVERALL: 7.2/10
great course,
I always enjoy playing at rocky river. Even though course was wet from all the rains of late, greens were in excellent shape .
pace of play was a little slower as there were holiday golfers playing hack golf.
It was an enjoyable round with wide fairways on front nine.
negtives - no beverage cart , wet areas and pace of play. Otherwise perfect
Great Course in Concord
Quality course. Carts with digital course and proximity sensors. Greens are well kept. Personnel is friendly. Driving range and putting area.
Great Course
Despite some light rain and high winds during play, the course held up well and the greens were in the best shape of any course in the Charlotte area. The course layout is good and the overall course condition is excellent. We’ll play again whenever possible.
A Great Value
I played Rocky River Municipal GC yesterday for the first time and had a great experience. I went out as a single and was partnered up with three other avid golfers who were also playing there through the GolfNow website as I was.
The course, set in the shadow of the Charlotte Speedway in Concord, was 25 minutes from Uptown where I was staying. At $32, including cart, it was a hard offer to resist. They have a driving range (horrible balls, but only $5 more), and an excellent putting green. The halfway house offered a hot dog, beer, and chips for $9.50. The layout was interesting, winding through full grown forests, and the green tees were 6,450 yards. With minimal roll on the dormant (brown) fairways it played a bit long for me as I typically drive the ball 210-220. When I return I will play the white tees at 6,000. The greens were near perfect and running at about a 10 stump meter. There was little grain on the Bermuda surface which was amazingly smooth. Every put had an extra 2-3 feet of roll and I had to adjust from my usual bent grass surface. The conditioning was so-so but not out of line for a heavily played muni layout.
I would return and recommend Rocky River to my golfing friends and family.
Ruff rough, this Bermuda is thick
But hit it in the fairway or bunker and it’s like golfing in April. Fairways and greens were in great shape. Greens pitted true, consistent and a little fast. They held irons well, but it would be nice if more golfers would take advantage of th free divot tools.
I found 7-8 balls just walking the rough looking for mine. Of course I lost about 4-5 of mine I was sure I’d find them a couple club lengths off the fairway.
One thing I’d like to change here is what you pay. I booked a hot deal, but could have paid a cheaper rate as a walkin. We had that happen a couple times over about 8 rounds here this year. Don’t get me wrong, the course is absolutely worth the money paid, I just like to feel like a hot deal really is one.
Great course!
The course is in great playing shape. Fairways, rough and greens are pristine. Greens are excellent and rolling smoothly. I've played this course regularly over the last three years. It's always in great condition. Highly recommended!
Great course
Course is in very good shape. There are no houses on the course, but plenty of hazards and forest areas on every hole. Keeping the ball straight and in play is a must. The greens rolled well. The only thing I didn’t love were how hard the greens were. They still held on full wedges, but it was difficult to stop short shots close. Pace of play was good. And the value was exceptional.
Nice course next to Charlotte Speedway
Good layout. Not overly difficult, but you need to hit a few different shots.
Greens were excellent. Fairways very good. Tee boxes could use a little TLC, but were acceptable. Bunkers were good as well.
Staff was very friendly. Price of $69 on Saturday morning was fair.
Nice clubhouse with a well stocked pro shop.
Overall it was well worth playing. I enjoyed the course. Thank you.
Beautiful Course But Has Some Issues Right Now
First off the course is pretty and the layout is nice. They have some dead spots on their greens and some areas in the rough that have dead or no grass. We have also had lots of rain over the last week and all of the bunkers were washed out. Plus the sand in many of the bunkers is strange and more like dirt. The $69 price on the weekend is nowhere near worth that price. If you can get a round for around 45 bucks during the week or better yet on the weekend, then go for it. But this course is not a course that is worth $69. One other issue the course is having right now is that several of the tee boxes are dead as well. For the most part the greens are in good shape, but some of them do have dead spots on them as well.
Almost But.....
Greens still need another week
Very disappointed back nine water coolers were empty by the time I got to them
Sending out single after single just creates a traffic jam especially when they don't join up until hole 17
A ranger driving around can cure that
These are all things a course, that charges twice the price of others, should provide
Pleasantly surprised
Visiting from out of town, picked this course due to proximity and reviews by other golfers. Course was in good shape, nice layout with some dog legs, natural obstacles to navigate. Good use of giant boulders on course. Tee boxes had been fairly recently punched, so bumpy/slow.
