Golfer Reviews
Played here Handful of times
The course itself is an epic layout. The grass and greens on the other hand are iffy at best even in the nicer months. If this course put some money into the grounds keeping crew this place would be amazing especially location wise. Overall a great learning course for the shape it’s always in.
It’s $20 cheaper than everywhere else for a reason
Don’t waste your time and money here. Course is not kept, there is no driving range to warm up, chipping green doesn’t even have holes and the greens are terrible. Won’t come back here again.
Great course
Fun to play. Not easy and every hole has different challenges. Definitely recommend.
Good value
First time playing at Westport. Older established course. Not very long however you do need to be mindful of your shot selection. Front nine needs work on their tee boxes and the greens. The back nine is in better shape. Need to aerate the greens and tee boxes. Could use someone to clean out and replace water in the ball washers. I would definitely come back and play however as it is.
Avoid this course
Poor conditions and layout. There are no long/normal holes on this course. Lots of 90 degree doglegs that make no sense for a normal golfer. Teeing off with a 7 iron to then take a full 3 wood to cover the remaining distance to the green…maybe if they reversed the direction of the course it would make more sense (250-280 to the turn; 180ish to the green).
The fairways are about the same quality as the first cut or even the rough at other similarly priced courses.
Nobody rakes their footprints in the traps or fixes their ball marks on the green.
This course is for the retired septuagenarian who has figured out how to play this nonsensical course with a hybrid 5 wood, an escape wedge, and a putter.
Challenging
I started off missing a birdie putt on 1, was feeling good and expected an easy time of it. No such luck.
The course challenges with doglegs, traps, water and slope. It played tough.
Course could use some TLC, but it's playable. Tee boxes hard, some greens with crabgrass on the fringe and some fareways not groomed to par.
I'll be back.
Don’t bother
This is a crabgrass local dogleg-without-though layout that will disappoint any actual golfer.
Downhill in a hurry
I've played this course several times over the last three years. It has never been in rougher shape than it is now. Like a lot of courses in and around the Charlotte area, the cart path are awful. What surprised me was how much crabgrass was in the fairways. Greens were ok condition but very slow like they haven't been cut all week. Very disappointing. Feel like this course will be closing soon to build more houses or either sold to private club. What used to be a great course for the money, is now worse than a dog track!
