People working were completely rude. People in front of us had a late start and then we were told if we didn’t hurry up we would be made to skip a hole or leave the course when we were only on hole 5. Then we were stocked by the course marshal for the rest of the time. Course was in horrible shape. Basically played in sand (even though we didn’t land in bunkers). Weeds all over the course to where we couldn’t even find our golf ball in the fairway. Tee box’s had basically no grass and covered with broken tees.
Will not be going back ever.
Nice course, great value
I’m a pretty high handicap, and the narrow fairways were very challenging. The layout is fun. The greens were slooow but consistent and well maintained. The staff was VERY friendly I’ll definitely be back
Good times
Never written a review before and after reading all the negative almost backed out of playing here glad we didn’t
Staff were super friendly and the starter was awesome!!!!!
Played from the blue tees with no issues, white tees were beat up but expected with volume
Greens were slower but extremely consistent and in great condition if you like slower greens
Front nine was super tough, with having to play smart golf and the back plays more traditional
Great price and challenging course for sure
Actually shot worst score in a long long time as I am more of a grip it and rip it and this is not the course for that which is a good thing
Worth the trip and will be back !!!!!
Horrible Shape / Unfriendly Staff
I've played every public course in in the Charlotte and surrounding area and I Westport to be lacking in many areas.
- The guy in the pro-shop did not say one word to us while checking-in (my Dad and I playing a Father's Day round).
- I know NC and especially Charlotte courses have a lot of hard red clay that is hard to deal with, but at Westport the hard red clay has taken over many fairways as well as the surrounding areas. I hit some drives right down the middle and couldn't find a place within 15 yards of my ball with a blade of grass. It was all hard dirt and rocks.
- The course design is interesting and challenging. Many of the holes you have to take (way) less than driver to account for the hazards and hard doglegs. The condition of the course ruined this would-be fun layout in my opinion. I hit a 5 iron off the first tee and it rolled into the hazard that the course guide says is 279 from the tee. The yardage was definitely off, but it also rolled 100 yards down the hard dirt fairways.
Seems like there is no greens keepers
Tee boxes were nothing but sand. Greens aren’t even green half of them are just clay. Fairways weren’t cut in most places and cart paths are actually dangerous.
West Port
Course needs water or rain. Needs a lot of rain. Also neighborhood developments are now in play on the back 9. So hope you don't mind a audience when you tee off and putt on the green.
Decent for money
Not in great condition greens are not good tee boxes need some attention fairways are below average. But for the money not bad place to play. I will play again
Fun course with terrible conditions
The fairways were like hitting off of rock and had little to no grass in them at some points. The greens were not cut low so were very slow. If they maintained this course with sprinklers and lawnmowers it would be good.
