Golfer Reviews
Fun Course with the Best Greens Around
Played it 2 days in row, first day was tough as there are numerous blind greens. Doglegs left and right, uphill, downhill, with hazards running through. They had given me a course guide describing the holes, which I totally forgot about in my hurry to get out. Reading that and playing it again made a more enjoyable experience. Being a visitor to NC, I wasn't used to the hilly course management style golf. This course was my favorite out of the 3 other hilly courses I played, with very good fast greens, and in generally better shape. On my list to play again.
Enjoyable round at Westport
Greens are in great shape. A little slow but roll true. It is early in the season and fairways are still greening up but should be great in a few weeks. Overall enjoyable round..!!
Worth the drive
Nice layout in good condition and a friendly staff
78 Degrees in Jan :-)
2nd time playing here. Very challenging layout. You need to shape a lot of shots to play this well. Greens are extremely fast and tough. I had far too many 3-putts. Plan on spending some time on the practice green b4 your round.
Course
The course was in poor shape. Leaves were everywhere very difficult finding your balls. They needed to blow the leaves off the greens.
Doglegs and Downhill Lies
I played this course for the first time with my son. The layout was scenic and unique with many doglegs and downhill fairway shots. Course was enjoyable. The leaves, however, were too abundant in the rough and in the woods making a stray ball impossible to find. Westport course maintenance should consult with Glen Oaks Golf in Maiden, NC which seasonally grinds and vacuums all leaves well.
Bad layout
For first-timers, this golf course is a big question mark. There are many tee shots and approach shots where you have no idea where to hit or how much club to hit. The course was rough around the edges, with the greens being in decent shape.
Tight fairways
Greens were in good shape and really quick. Fairways were okay but had some ground under repair issues. But all the courses in this area have had little to no rain in the past few months! So not all of the bad is solely on the course .
Good Course for the Price
I booked a 2 PM tee time at 1 PM the same day. Arrived at the course a little before my tee time, and since the course was not that busy, I was allowed to start early. Staff in the pro shop was very nice and professional.
Tee to green, the course is in decent shape. Tee boxes and fairways are nice, but definitely keep it in the short grass. If you are spraying the ball off the tee, expect to struggle as most holes are doglegs that are lined with trees. The greens were in nice condition. The greens almost felt like short artificial grass with how thick the grass was (not sure if they have been aerated or not), so the greens were a bit slower.
Overall, you cant beat the price for this course. The course offers a good challenge and you really get to hit all clubs in your bag.
Great course!
This course is very challenging but fair, requiring different shot shapes and club selections off the tee box. Except for the par 3's, most holes are doglegs. Most approach shots are uphill and some are blind. Staying in the fairway and on the correct side is a must. I thoroughly enjoyed my round and will play this course again.
Best value in the area.
Very nice course for this part of the Charlotte area.
i could not have been more pleased with the conditions and layout of the course. Super friendly staff. I am not saying this as a negative, there is no outside help, however you can drive your cart right to your car to load it up. Im finding this to be the norm for the area though, so please do not let it reflect poorly on this course. The other thing I will mention is the only food (that i saw) were hot dogs and snacks available in the pro shop. I think this course should consider adding a grill. It would be a great addition to a fantastic course in a beautiful setting. It would have been nice to have lunch there before the ride home. This course is worth the drive. Check it out.
Great shape
Great value, great shape. Much better shape than other courses that cost a lot more.
Roller Coaster
Prepare for plenty of "ups and downs" at Westport. The course is on very rolling land, and there are few holes that are relatively flat. That made for a lot of uphill approach shots into greens, which made pulling the right club a real challenge. Considering that it had rained heavily for the four straight days prior to my round, the course had drained very well and was surprisingly dry. The fairways have just started to come in, and with a few weeks of hot weather they will be great. Greens would hold a well-struck shot and were very, very smooth. Great value for the money.
