Golfer Reviews
Bad conditions; not worth price
The greens were in horrible shape, with some of them even being washed out or no real difference between the green and the fringe. A lot of really hard ground and hard dirt in the fairways a storm has passed through a few days before I played, and they had yet to clean off any of the greens from a ton of debris which made it impossible to putt. Wouldn’t recommend this course for the price. The first hole was backed up 10 groups deep.
Great layout and could be a great course with some TLC
My sons & I have played here several times over the last few years. Really nice layout but the last couple of times we played there it could have been in better shape. Greens were inconsistent and the fairways were in bad shape. If someone bought this & put some real money into maintaining it a bit better it could be one of the nicer courses in the area. I know it was Labor Day weekend but $40 per round was a bit steep considering the shape it was in.
A nice play to play.
The layout of this course is great. You will get a chance to play many different shots. You will need some course management. There are dog legs rights and lefts, creeks, and ponds. A few blind tee shots. The greens were slow but fair. The fairways are not country club level but we found them very playable. My foursome had a great time out there and would definitely play there again.
August 2023
The course had a nice challenging layout, however the fairways were in really bad shape. There were huge spots of dirt everywhere. The ground was very hard. Greens were extremely slow. If this course was $30 to play I would say it is great for the money. But it was not worth $49.
Westport needs some help
I like the layout of the course no two holes that are the same. The cart paths near some trees need to be repaired. The fairways need a better grass for this type of soil after they are smoothed out. The greens were just punched so they were slow. For the price and to play at the last moment Westport fits the bill.
Okay. But not worth what they’re charging.
Course is decent layout, pace of play was terrible on a Saturday morning. Price was not worth the overall condition of the course to be honest. Probably won’t play here again.
Good course no grass
It was once a really nice course but has fallen down. Theres not a lot of grass in the fairway and some of the greens were bare. It seems like they are trying to get it back in shape but it’s not there yet. It was cheap on a weekday morning only $30 and for that price it’s totally fine.
Should’ve known something was wrong…
Been playing the game for nearly 30 years. I should’ve known there was a reason that it was the only course in the area with early morning availability just 3 days prior to booking. I just relocated to NC about 10 wks ago, so it’s all new to me.
Absolute cow pasture ~ this course should be shutdown and refurbished. An utter embarrassment of a course.
Fun Course
I’m a high handicap golfer and have played a few nice courses but I’m not picky where I play. This course was nice in that it has a lot of elevation changes a few hazards but mostly open and playable for any skill level. The course conditions weren’t great. There’s not much fairway, many of the greens were not great but it was all playable. The cost was good worth what I paid 35 with a cart. However on the day I played it was cart path only. I really didn’t enjoy that, so check before you arrive.
Way overpriced + terrible course conditions
This should be a $20/18 holes price point, even on the weekends. Course is a mess, as much dirt as there is grass on fairways, carts are 100 years old (one of ours brakes barely worked), no beverage/snack cart and the clubhouse is basically a trailer type set up.
I don't need Torrey Pines - but this place was bunk and they charge way too much for the type of course it is.
Atrocious course
The entire course is in terrible conditions. Tee box had weeds all over it plus the dirt was so hard I broke 3 tees just trying to push them into the dirt. Fairways are covered in dry hard clay patches. Greens are unplayable, I’m pretty sure if you drove over the green in a golf cart it wouldn’t do any harm to it at all. I paid 100$ for 2 players with a cart 18 holes. Terrible terrible terrible course.
Never finished round
We have played here before and enjoyed it. This day was not a good day. We had an 8:40am tee time. Apparently they scheduled a tournament that morning also. After checking in and being sent to the starter we were told that we might get off at 9am. Start was about 9:10am. It was 2 hours before we finished the 4th hole. What was really disappointing is that we were only able to do 9 of our scheduled 18 hoes due to the dleayed start and slow play.
Will not play again
Red tee boxes difficult to find and in some cases just not marked. Tee boxes are not well groomed. Lots of weeds in the fairway.
Staff is not professional or friendly. Layout is okay but a lot of money considering the condition of the course.
Disappointed
Tried Westport for a second time yesterday. I will not be back. The lack of care at Westport was evident at the first hole. Although there was a storm the night before, which accounted for the greens not being mowed, they should have at least taken a few minutes to blow the debris off of them. The cups were cut in areas of the greens that were unputtable due to green damage and didn’t need to be. The staff was nice but until Westport cares more about the golf course conditions and golfers, I don’t care to be back.
Good value track
I live close so this is a review based on my proximity. Price is right most of the time. They usually have day of availability. Course is in ok shape but rains have done some work on it.
Clubhouse has a nice staff and they will get you set up. Pretty relaxed. I think there is a new course manager who is trying to make a difference.
Course has lots of dead spots, manicured for daily play, and the layout is nice. Like almost any course just needs some $ & TLC to be a good course. There is no driving range but there is a putting/chipping green for warm up.
