Greens form the Ghetto
Terrible shape. Some greens barely had turf. The ones that had grass had just as many weeds. They have cut trees between fairways and if you miss fairway you’re in sawmill waste. A lot of fairways have extreme slope that will funnel you off the fairway even if you hit a decent drive.
I paid $75 for a $30 course. Greens were bumpy, fairways surrounded by rocks, tees left in every tee box.
Pace of play was a HUGE issue. We went on a Saturday as two experienced golfers and we had to wait at EVERY SINGLE hole. We weren’t in that much of a hurry but each hole, there were people also waiting behind us. We got hit into FOUR times by two younger frat looking dudes one of which had his shoes off and the other had his shirt off.
For $75 I would’ve much rather gone to a nicer course. I expected it to be busy yes, but the golfers who were behind us made the experience much much worse. Add on the terrible conditions of the course you have nothing but negative feedback from me.
Error on the price
The price I was quoted to include a cart fee, then after the round I was charged an extra $30.
I’m planning on calling the proshop today to figure out why.
Westport
First time playing here.. I assume that at one time it was a quality course but it hasn't been properly maintained and cared for. I guess it is okay to get out and swing, but conditions are so poor, don't pay attention to your score. Many greens have no grass.
Overpriced
$20 course, either lower the price or fix the course
Needs some work
I’ve been here twice because you can basically get a tee time almost whenever. Blind first hole - please be sure you check past the red tee box to ensure you aren’t driving into someone. Biggest complaint about hole 1. Greens need TLC, or really a complete care makeover. Staff is awesome, no driving range but a really nice chipping area. For the price, if you can find a tee time at any of the municipal courses in Charlotte you’d have a better round, actually for the price you can go to most any course and have a better time of golf.
Best point - I got my tee time for Saturday last minute (booked it at 10:30 for an 11:20 start). That is for both times I’ve been here.
My round
First time there. Turf was in terrible shape . Greens had lots of poa and little turf.
Very little grass to hit off of even in the fairways. Lots of downed trees cut up and left along the rough areas. Paid $44 per person. Was worth about $20 each.
They've butchered it...
I've played this course for over 30 years now and I am sad to see the management decisions. They recently chose to tear down a massive portions of amazing trees that not only looked nice but created unique challenges for the course. I heard they did it to "help growth" but in over 30 years it's never had a problem, so why now? The cost of the course just isn't worth it. The greens are littered with so many weed sprouts it is like putting on a Plinko board. The natural beauty has been decimated, and the course has lost that special woodsy feel that used to exist even though it was a neighborhood course.
Pricy
First and last time playing here. Cart path feels like I’m off-roading, the tee boxes are hammered, only 2 greens are decent. For what I gathered from the person I played with (local person) that this course and the previous owner have fallen on completely off the face of the earth.
I would not recommend this course to anyone else they improve the overall conditions of the course.
Do not play
Conditions are terrible. Fairways and tee boxes are trash and the greens are full of weed. Ownership is delusional if they think their current rates are justified whatsoever, and the fact there are 4 and 5-star reviews for this course is highly suspicious as they do not reflect the reality of the course.
Greens are Awful
Westport has a great layout and is typically fun to play. However, the course seems to be working its way into disrepair. The cart paths are extremely bumpy. I am sure some of the contents in my golf bag fell out over the course of 18 holes. Many of the trees separating the fairways have been cut down so you are in the firing line when playing opposing directional holes. The stumps, trunks, branches, and mulch from the trees has not been removed, creating vast areas of unplayable lies and places to lose your ball. Worst of all, the greens. I felt insulted to have paid $60 to have access to greens in such poor shape. When I arrived at the green for number one, I cussed because I thought it was sand. What I actually saw was brown grass with hundreds of splotches of sprouting grass causing putts to “plinko” toward the hole. It wasn’t until hole 7 that I saw a green a felt was almost decent. And that “decent” rating only applies to 4 or 5 greens. I could go on and on but I want to be somewhat fair to what few golf courses are still available. It will be a while before I play Westport again.
Stay Away
Had a 10:50 pre paid GN Tee Time, showed up at 10:20 to find the entire club locked down with no lights on. After 40 minutes of trying to call the course and GN one of their employees showed up and said he would get us sorted. At that point we said don’t worry about it, 40+ minutes past our tee time wasn’t worth it. The club employee informed us that he was going to check us in anyways so we would still be charged via GN. Still in dispute between the course and GN, but GN should be able to see when the course “checked” us in and see that it was well past our scheduled tee time because their shop employees can’t show up for 3+ hours after they are scheduled to open. Entire process makes me never want to play that course again and drop my GN membership. Terrible experience from the course and Golf Now.
Place needs some work
Don’t understand how this place is $60 dollars a round when it’s got dirt piles for tee boxes, and the greens being in the shape they are in.
Don’t have a tee? No worries they have not picked any up in months so you have a nice selection
Cart path.. yeah they don’t really have one where your drink won’t jump out the cups holder
Rough Around Edges but Worth Price
The staff was super friendly and easy in and out. Never too crowded as the course could use some more work. Since the trees were taken down between holes on front 9 it is a little easier to play and lot more forgiving. Biggest drawback is its kinda in no mans land between Charlotte and Hickory so drive is a bit long
Room for improvement
I had a tee time at 9:40 AM. When I arrived at the first tee, I noticed that there were three more groups with tee times just five minutes apart. It seemed like they were trying to maximize their revenue. Additionally, there were many trees that had been cut down on the side of the fairway, not picked up. No range. Greens, fairways and tee boxes in good shape. Great staff.
Good layout
For the money the course has great layout and the greens are very good! Need some work on the fairways and rough.
