About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Mixed feelings/thoughts on Marshal Actions
Perfect day, nice course, middle of the week, and friendly staff,...then the course Marshal showed up to push us along. At first I thought; "I get it. I've been enjoying the weather, my game, and the course too much, better get a move on". Then I looked at my watch and realized we were well inside 15 minutes a hole. OK, I've been a Marshal before and it's a tough spot. But even with a couple of senior guys in my group we're moving fairly well and just because the group in front of us motored-on shouldn't mean I have to run between shots to keep up with them. Tough spot for the Marshal right? He see's an open green and feels he needs to say something. I get it, and I responded by putting more hustle in my step.
It was the second interaction that puts me off. In the middle of the eighteenth fairway the Marshal interrupted and essentially said that if we can't play a faster round of golf we should find another course. Again I looked at my watch and counted up the time. We were approximately 5 minutes over 15min/hole target.
So, if you like fast golf and very active Marshals even in the middle of the week, this is the course. If you've got a good game and like to focus on scoring, at under 15min/hole!, AND don't mind a Marshal breathing down your neck, this is the course. If your game isn't yet up to snuff, suggest somewhere else to play.
I was at another local course as a single a couple of days later and playing partner related similar 'Marshal story' he experienced at Sterling Hills. Seems to be the routine, not the exception.
All good if you like a fast game in the middle of the week. Not so good if you're able to keep 15min/hole but don't want a Marshal giving you the stink-eye.
Nice course, nice conditions, and I'll still say nice staff.
Challenging layout.
Interesting course. Well maintained. Very peaceful surroundings. Greens are very nice. Staff was great. Very friendly and attentive.
Slow pace of play
Morning started out great, the 2 gentleman working the pro shop were friendly and helpful. Complimentary bucket of balls and lunch voucher were included. Starter at the first hole t box was friendly and knowledgeable. But on the course there was not one Marshall to keep the pace of play. Group in front struggled all day. That's ok I have struggled myself on some days. But spending too much time on the green to line up a triple bogey is unnecessary. The round took us 5 1/2 to complete. Coming from Santa Monica I am not sure if it's worth a whole day.
Sterling hills golf club

fun day
always fun nice course and weather wonderful !!!!!will be back soon!!!!
Well worth it!
So the staff was so helpful especially Sedric. Apparently the Golf Now online reservation did not show on the club computer but Sedric got it straightened out and I got out on time. The staff is so helpful as well as the concession help. The track is in great shape except for a few spots on the fairways.
Nicely Kept Up Golf Course … All Around Good Conditions (Fairways, Bunkers and Putting greens..)
Staff is ACES!
The staff is the best from the top with Sedric down to the course maintenance. All the volunteers are just great people who love golf and all the people who also do. Thanks to you all for a great experience!
Great course overall
Loved this course coming from LA, pace of play was great and course was in excellent condition; a couple of the bunkers were rock hard but everything else was wonderful. I was disappointed that I was not able to get the meal token or the range balls that were listed in the golf now description. The staff told me that only people that buy the reservation from the course get them.
Great course
Players course.
Forgiving but not easy
A great challange

Overcharged
Booked through Golfnow at $62, & when arrived at the cours, they charged us $86. They said it's because of Holiday rate...
Not acceptable, when clearly it was booked at that cost, even when showed the email confirmation to management.
I would like to get my refund on twosome booking worth $48...
I want hear back from Golfnow representative to make this right
