Stumpy Lake Golf Course
About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Great Course
Absolutely love this course. Staff is friendly equipment is maintained. Course is clean and well maintained. Course easy enough for a beginner like me and challenging enough for some of the veterans playing with me. We all had a great time. Would highly recommend this course to anybody who loves the game.
Good Golf and Good Times
Over I had a great time the first 2 greens were a little rough but the hole placement was not affected by it. The tee box’s had the green stuff on them called grass so that was helpful and nice to look and use. I was excited about the tee time and conditioning of the course all around. The bev cart was out and came around quite often so that was awesome.
Price
The course was well kept. greens had some undulations. People were friendly. The only problem we had was that we were supposed to be charged $115 at the course through TeeOff, but the course charged us $126.24. I am attempting to get the $11.24 back that I was overcharged. Used TeeOff email but it was returned because the email address was rejected. I sent the email to infoteeoff.com
Play only if you can’t get on somewhere else
The greens are rough, patchy and not maintained well. The rough and parts of the fairway are hard as concrete, not maintained, aerated or turned during the offseason. We did enjoy the course layout and had a good time. This course would be amazing if they kept up with the grounds.
Nice course
They have really done a great job of turning this course around. For the money it's a great course to play. I like the fact that there are no houses on the course. The greens are slow but in great shape for a public course. There are a couple of greens early in the round that need a little work but overall I like the course and will be back.
Truly fun. Staff was amazing and friendly!
This was my first time at Stumpy lake and I truly had a really great time playing! The course was very well kept and the staff was so friendly and accommodating! I will definitely be coming back here! Thanks to everyone there who made my experience so great!
Some greens bad
Fairways tight 👍 but some greens splotchy. Overall good course. Rain would help the entire region!🤣
Good value - Exceptional greens
Stumpy Lake has worked hard to restore their greens to the high level they were known for years ago. Fairways are below average as you may find yourself with a "natural lie" unless you are in a 10 to 15 yard swath down the center. Their tee boxes appear to be the last thing on their to do list as they are deeply compacted and getting a peg in the ground is a real challenge. Overall it remains one of the best value courses in Tidewater.
Above average for the area.
I've play a few courses in the area and this is one that I've been back too multiple times
It can get crowded but most of the other people there try to let the faster players go threw. It has a few Tee boxes that are very hard and it's a good workout trying to get you tee in the ground. This is a course I will continue to play.
Always a pleasant round
First and most importantly you are greeted by a person with a friendly disposition. That in and of itself can make a round gods or bad when you walk in and if the person behind the counter is a grump (seriously the whole industry needs to get this crap in check) it will likely set your day in a bad direction if you let it. Back to the review the team there from front desk to grounds workers are top notch and don’t everything they can to make golf a pleasurable experience! Kudos to Stumpy Lakes Management for such great hires. Greens are coming in very nice and filling
well. Bunkers were pretty soft and the wildlife is abundant while you play. Never a dull day on SL. Highly recommend it.
This course is in great condition.
Stumpy Lake is a great course for the money. The fairways and greens are in very good condition. All of the holes are lined with trees, and slicers will be in the woods a lot of the time off the tee. But that's their problem, I don't slice. They have multiple tees for all distance golfers. As a 78 year old I played the golds, but next time I will play the green tees. Just a little bit more forward, but still behind the ladies tees. The greenside bunkers have nice soft sand and are well raked. The greens have a nice pace, not too slick or slow. Both the clubhouse manager and the starter were very friendly and helpful. I’m looking forward to coming back to play a round with family or friends.
