Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch

It was my first time here and the course was not only well kept, the staff was the best part of the visit. I had arrived with a box of donuts to greet the pro-shop staff with, and was greeted by a line of fellow golfers ready to take on the morning. After handing out a few donuts to a few fellow golfers, I gifted the pro-shop with the rest of the donuts. The entire team was great the rest of the visit, and I shot a great round because of it. Spent 200 on an afternoon round - but did not feel the price matched the. Condition of the course….have played much nicer courses for much less - the price alone would send me elsewhere based on it.

Lots of force carry from the tee box. Fairways and greens in good shape. Pace of play was great. I paired up with a local couple that helped alot with advice on targets from the tee. Not much sand in bunkers, around 2" but that seems normal for the region. Great day here. Played canyon/ranch. (They have 3-9's)

Enjoyed my round. 1st time playing here. They have 3 9's. Pace of play was great. Alot of force carries on tee shots. Bunkers didn't have much sand meaning a few inches before clay or whatever the base is. That seems common for this region. Fairway and 1st cut well defined, outside of that is more native desert/dry terrain. Most fairways are easily wide enough. Luckily I paired up with a local couple that could give target lines off the tee. Greens were in pretty good shape not alot of ball marks etc.

My tee time was scheduled after a private event, causing significant delays in the pace of play. At Ranch, we completed the first nine holes in 3.5 hours, and the 18-hole round took us 5.5 hours. They didn't respect our individual pace, and the tee time management was terrible. The staff was cynical and rude.

Playable course with lots of elevation changes. Greens were large and fast. Had a few holes with odd layouts. Play was a little slow but not bad. Very scenic course. For us it was a farther drive in traffic. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Steele canyon will test your game, no flat lies, which i knew going into it. So no beef there; however, it was a 5 hour round, and 5 hours of torture, in the blazing heat.. The course wasn't in that great a shape for the greens fees charged. 2nd 9 were recently punched, and were still a little sandy.

As a local resident and 2x weekly golfer, there is no better value than what Steele canyon has to offer. From the front desk staff to the starter and everyone in between this is the best course in SD. The number of fellow golfers (mostly members) are the primary reason I only come here to play. The vibe is always refreshing and players are just what you would expect from a semi-private course of this caliber. Special mention to Manny at the starter booth who’s always looking to send me out with the best of the best folks.
