Aerition
Usually a decent place to play for the price. There was an aerition warning which would usually cause me to skip leaving a bad review. But 13/18 greens are completely covered in sand and unputtable. I wouldn’t recommend this course for at least a week. Previous rounds here have been good. Staff Is solid, pace of play is average for a San Diego weekend. This review is only referring to the current temporary state of the greens.
Maintenance on going
Came in early and the staff was nice enough to let me start early. Condition was decent on 3/4 of the courses. The remaining was being maintained either with excavation of placing new drain pipes, creating new tee boxes or cutting of trees. I’m just glad that it’s being updated. I can’t wait to comeback how it will look when it’s all done.
A Work In Continuous Process
First time playing CVGC in over a year. Our tee time was 8:50a. The very first impression I got was climbing into my cart and seeing a bunch of used cigarette butts inside one of the cup holders! Not good. Need to be better with cleaning carts! Secondly, I was surprised by how decent the fairways looked but a few holes still had rough/dirt fairways (Holes 2, 3, & 8). Greens were decent rolling around a 9-10. Tee boxes were ok as well. Bunker I landed in was ok (Hole 4). Pace of play was good, we finished in 4 hrs & 11 min. Decided to check out Slice Society after our round (food orders stop at 2pm; drinks stop serving at 5pm). I ordered Tenders & Fries w/Arnold Palmer. Our server was great and the food was good. Overall, I was expecting worse playing conditions based on my past experiences, but I was pleasantly surprised that the conditions were better than expected. This course has so much potential.
No need for lawn mowers
There is hardy any grass in the fairways to need a lawnmower. Lots of puddles which were puzzling since it had not rained in 10+ days. No Marshalls to help move things along for less than a 5+ hour round. Had to wait for a cart. City should be embarrassed.
Not worth the money
I have golfed the course on many occasions only due to them having an NFL special which is $42 for green fee, cart and lunch anytime after 10 on the weekends. Employees will not automatically put it in for you so you have to specifically ask for it or you will get charged there normal rate, I have met people walking the course that had no idea that for the same price they paid they could have had a cart and lunch included. Course had a few fairways under maintenance and when re opened they because terrible again. Hole 3 and 4 do not have fairways that are playable and need to either be tore out and rebuilt or something cause if your not driving the green good luck! If you have the choice to go somewhere else I would recommend doing so if not you’re going to regret spending the money at the course until they figure out how to better maintain the course!
Golf course with no grass
Absolutely embarrassing representation of a golf course in San Diego! There is no grass at all, the fairways are all dirt and they haven’t tried to do anything about it for years. The greens are very nice, but the other 95% of the course is just plain sad.
Looking good
Greens were in great shape.
Fairway turf has been greatly improved.
Slow group in front of us on the front nine. We got ahead of them on the back and the pace got much better.
I had a 610 teatime and two for some who rushed out and played before us. I didn’t get the tee off until 630. This is no big deal but they should just close those tee times off so we don’t run another problem. Greens are in good shape. Fairways were in terrible shape.
Don’t play here
Do you like playing in the dirt with no tee boxes or hole numbers?
Should be condemned
Do you like to play in the dirt? Horrible course no markings no tees they should pay you to play. Best thing was the hot dog. Greens good. $50 horrible
Poor Course
The grass is not kept well. Tons of dirt on most holes. 2 of the par 5s were in maintenance and played as part 3. I didn't like using my clubs on the solid dirt after striking the ball. And there were 3 different groups of players that just skipped around and played any hole. Like how did people just appear halfway on out hole suddenly, 3 different times!!!
Course Under Renovation
Love this golf course. Several holes under renovation, but the price and friendly staff, can’t be beat. A few holes were being worked on, which changed the distances of the holes. Overall I was playing golf and enjoying the round for sure.
I recommend to Go Play this course.
WORST COURSE EVER
3 HOLES IN AND WANTED MY MONEY BACK COURSE IS 80% DIRT, RIDDLED WITH GOPHER HOLES. ONLY THING GREEN AND GRASS IS THE ACTUAL GREENS. bENN PLAYING GOLF FOR 30 YEARS, MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.
Course has more dirt and gravel than grass.
Greens were the only thing that weren’t completely dirt and might have been the slowest greens ever. Played on a weekend and had to pay over $60 for a cart. Just really not worth it and a super slow round, almost 6 hours.
Great value walking twilight, challenging layout & wind, improving conditions
Great value walking twilight, challenging layout & wind, improving conditions. They're laying new grass in a few key fairway areas. Greens are good right now. If you've never been here I'm sure you're put off by the poor reviews but it's a no frills, inexpensive course with a tough layout and good for walking. Off course amenities are lacking, the range and balls are terrible, snack shack has good selection of beverages not much else but I still like playing here. Have fun.
