Lakewood Country Club

Several holes were really wet and fairways were pretty rough on many holes. Greens were in nice condition.

It wad a rainy day but we made the best of it the staff at the pro shop could have been friendlier. Just seemed like the guy was having a bad day ..the staff at the café was amazing tho and the food was good while we waited out the rain .

Had a Sunday Twilight round that started 150pm.

The starter was professional and to the point and got us started right on time.

The facilities are adequate to get you ready for your round: including two putting greens, a driving range, and a full chipping area.

The course is pretty much flat but most holes have plenty of trees and some lakes lining the hole: making accurate tee shots a must. The back tees play over 7000 yards and are marked off with a large rock at the furthest back tee box for each hole.

The greens had a lot of pitch marks, but the greens still rolled true for the conditions. They bunkers also recently got sand compared to last time, which is a major upgrade.

I've never had a sub-4.5 hour round at this course but a lot of that has to do with the longer par 3s that make for the course being challenging, especially the 12th tee. Today was as close to it as I have ever been.

Overall, the course is one to play again if there's no issue with a slower round.

I like this course, but we played on Sunday and it was overbooked or not managed well. We had a 5 1/2 hour round, which is unacceptable. Especially unacceptable on that day because it was in the 90’s and humid.

No carts available at 4pm. Waited 25 minutes to get a cart and finally tee off. Pace of play was terrible, backed up at least 3 groups on each hole.

Pretty slow group ahead of us - hitting 5-6 shots before the green and we called the starter and they didn't really do much to speed them up. Eventually we ended up playing 14 holes in 4 hours and stopped playing.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Lakewood Golf Course. I brought my 7-year-old son with me because he loves golf and simply wanted to ride along and watch. I even offered to pay for him as a full golfer if that was the issue, but the staff still refused to let him come onto the course.

I’ve played other Long Beach golf courses, and they all have reasonable spectator policies or allow you to pay a spectator fee. Instead of trying to accommodate a young golfer who is excited about the game, the staff at Lakewood were rude, unhelpful, and unwilling to make any exception.

The most disappointing part wasn’t that I couldn’t bring my son—it was seeing how upset he was when we had to leave. Courses should be encouraging the next generation of golfers, not turning away a respectful 7-year-old who simply wanted to spend time with his dad and enjoy the sport.

I hope Lakewood Golf Course reconsiders its policies and trains its staff to be more welcoming. Growing the game starts with supporting young golfers, not discouraging them.

Onetime there were 6 somes in front of us and slowing down everyone. 2 carts died after 14th hole. It was after hours so no support available.

Booked a tee time for four a week in advance and paid in full. When I checked my receipt, I noticed I was charged for two golf carts even though we always walk and never requested carts.

I figured it wasn’t a big deal, so I contacted the golf course. They told me the payment went through GolfNow and that I’d have to contact them directly for a refund.

For the next four days, I emailed them and called multiple times. Not once did they respond to my emails or answer my phone calls. No response, no explanation, nothing.

That’s terrible customer service. If there’s a problem with your booking, don’t expect GolfNow to help you.

I’ll never use them again, and I’d recommend booking your tee times somewhere else.

We were playing on a holiday weekend and there was no beverage cart person 🤬. It would have been nice to get a few beers while playing. Don’t know why they would not have drink cart gal out there🤷🏼‍♂️

A lot of puddles of water but at the same time a lot of dry spots on the fairways. Greens were real nice though.

Overall I really like this course, sand traps are my only complaint, not much sand in many some had no sand and standing water.

Staff was great. Course was in decent condition. Pace of play was worst I’ve seen with a dad, another adult and 3 kids in the same cart. The kids should have been hitting 1st yet the adult would let the green clear then they would tee off then the kids. Then proceed to give on course instruction all while in the same cart. I rang the Pro Shop to try to get a Marshall out to help speed things up but couldn’t get anyone on the phone. Ridiculous. I can only assume this is an isolated instance and would like to play LWCC again, just not anytime soon.
