Sand Canyon Country Club - Desert/Mountain Course

Sand Canyon could be really great if they sped the greens up.

Layout is challenging with most holes winding around a canyon. Can be tough to know where to hit it occasionally as the corridors are narrow and hard to know where to hit it.

Could be a really fun track, but the greens are always way too slow.

For perspective: I’m from the Midwest and used to thick lush fairways. Apparently those do not exist out here. Thus my rating doesn’t take that into account.

This was my first time playing this course. It has 27 holes fairly tight course some strategic holes meaning you don’t just pull out driver on every hole. Great views and fun to play. I played the Valley/Desert courses. The greens were in really good shape. However, even after having been freshly mowed, they were a little long, which made them a little bumpy and slow with heavy grain.

One nice feature they have, which I expect is a hold over from when it was a private club, is that on the cartpath curb they have a painted antripe indicating which tee box you are approaching: black blue, white, etc.

I was a single and had an early teetime so they let me off first and played by myself. Which was nice and serene until I got to the 15th hole and came upon a group of five. Yes, you heard that right a group of FIVE! They get a 1 rating for that!

For some reason, the app would only let me give the overall course rating which I would rate as an 4.25, and not the individual characteristics and amenities ratings. Course was in good shape for this area, staff were very friendly, they had a starter that directed me to the appropriate tee box. Not snack cart but they have a snack bar in the clubhouse. Also, every tee box had a sign with a picture of the hole layout which was nice.

Monday mid day round was amazing, play foursome and no group in front or behind us. Got to play at our own pace and course was tough if accuracy off the tee isn’t there yet. If you slice or fade on your drives then bring extra balls. Overall conditions were nice, greens were fast and great views.

The course layout was pretty good, slightly challenging. The fairways are full of gopher holes and bumpy. No on course cart service. Definitely not worth $122.
