Whitney Oaks Golf Club

A really fun and fair layout with some blinds shots and nice greens.

I continue to enjoy playing Whitney. The course stays in excellent condition this late in the season, though it offers many hazards that demand consideration before each shot. Play moved unusually slowly, apparently due to a twosome several groups ahead.

And probably my 10th review. This is a challenging golf course. If you carry a 15 or higher handicap and expect to have fun no matter your score then come on down. But really for your sanity and to save you a dozen or more golf balls if you re a beginner or have a 20 handicap, don't waste your money here. Go over to nearby Diamond Oaks Municipal where the layout and wide open flat fairways are more friendly to high handicap players.

September 2026 course conditions here are not the best that I've experienced. The rough and waste areas are realy thick and overgrown. Hit a ball into it and you are not going to find it. Though diligent searching will help you find 5 other balls. Greens are fast enough but a little beat-up looking. Lots of pock marks from poorly repaired divots.

I love Whitney Oaks but it does kick my 15 handicap butt. Johnny Miller designed this course. His first game here he shot an 84.

I shot a 92 yesterday.

I’ve been playing this course here for 10 years or so now. I’ve seen it in better shape, though they just punched and sanded and it’s not quite fair to say it’s bad. But it’s not great. Fairways were okay, and tee boxes beat up. The usual for any course late in the summer. The problem I had was how over grown they’ve let the course get. #5 is a difficult hole as it is and I hit a perfect layup and was blocked out by a bush and couldn’t even reach the green. You can’t even see the fairway on #11 anymore from the back tees, #17 is even crazier. I get the beauty of making the game more interesting and I’m all for but I think they could definitely clean up the course and cut back the limbs and shrubs without losing the challenging aspects that make the course great. Trimming the trees back wouldn’t make it less of a shot making course, just let me see the target sometimes.

Challenging course in the foothills with very tough tee shots on many holes. Narrow chutes, overhanging trees, narrow fairways on some shots are truly tough, but fair tests. Very nice greens and course is spectacular between holes, ofttimes driving under a canopy of trees and foliage is abundant. Rates a minimum 4.5. Play it but bring your A game.

I love this course challenge wise but while most all other courses are beautiful and green this one remains yellowish brown on so much of the course which I have a hard time understanding.Its not considered a hill course like Darkhorse,Apple Mountain or Winchester so it’s not like it’s hard to water and it has decent top soil not like the red clay dirt at Alta Sierra but must have failing maintenance staff.Last time I played there it was hard to breath as they had just spread chicken manure over the whole course that mourning but it doesn’t seemed to have really helped.Its a beautiful course and a favorite (just doesn’t look beautiful)

Played 18 holes in a little over 3 hours. Played as a twosome, played well did but did not catch the group ahead until the 18th hole. The course is drying out, fairly normal for course in the area this time of year. The green are in good condition and rolled consistent hole to hole.

Nice course - helps if you have played before; the pace of play was very good!

Course is great. Very difficult but still very enjoyable.

I enjoy the challenge that Whitney Oaks presents. Some rounds lost ball count mean as much as the score. I wound have rated all 5s except some of the tee boxes were inconsistently moved around, fairway round under repair and dried out in a few area. Course was very playable. Those were unusual for the course. Looking forward to the next round.

I really enjoyed playing this course. It offered a fun but challenging layout that kept every hole interesting without feeling unfair. The driving range was in great shape, and the practice putting green was excellent for getting a feel for the speed before the round. The course itself was well maintained, with a thoughtful layout that rewarded good shot placement. Overall, it’s a great place to practice and play, and I’d definitely come back.

Great layout, very good conditions for a valley course in the summer. Friendly staff everywhere.

Beautiful course, day was perfect. I will play there again. Challenging as well.

A solid local course with a great staff and pre and Post round amenities....but the pace of play on the weekends is always a concern...especially going to the back nine...plan your schedule accordingly....

Played this course many times, love the course layout and the challenge it presents. The course clearly won yesterday. I lost more balls than I have at any golf course. The slow play was a large contributor, but can’t blame that for all of the lost ball. Can’t wait to play again to get even with the course - smile

This course is on the difficult side. Narrow fairways not a lot of room around greens. Great shape fun to play.

Fun course but very challenging. Difficult greens that can really bump up your score. Overall a good course.
