Whitney Oaks Golf Club
About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Great course but challenging
Whitney Oaks is one of my go to courses, but only when I’m feeling pretty good about my game. There’s a lot of trouble here. This course was in good condition. Only issue was a couple of groups in front of us that apparently were friends. Half way through the front 9 they combined to form a group of 6. The Marshall was informed and they asked them to split up. They did for a bit and I think they skipped some holes, but eventually joined up again and we got stuck waiting for them. Other than that, the course was great!
Great golf!
Everything about the golf was great. Was super impressed with pace of play. We played Sat, 10am tee time and never waited at any hole except one. The only knock I have on the place was the food. Got a blast burrito to start the day and you could tell it was prepared way before I ordered it and had been sitting for a while. Got a BLT at the end of the round and legit came out with burnt toast that you could tell they tried to literally scrape the burn off (just toast a couple new pieces) and I got sick off either the burrito or BLT (stomach was messed up later that day) and all I ate were the two items from the golf course. So again, everything about the golf was wonderful.....just the food was very disappointing here. Obviously we could avoid the kitchen and just golf in the future. Yes, ill go back for sure.
course is really coming along
Since the new owners have come in the course has definitely improved. Played in 4hrs which was nice. Hopefully the nexts steps are the tee boxes which are getting a little ragged and we still have a few unplayable bunkers….like #14. But overall it’s really nice to see the course in such good condition
No Tee Time Enforcement!
Booked a time as a single to go out with two others. Arrived the the 1st tee on time. No starter on the box and the twosome I was supposed to play with weren’t there, but another two were teeing off 20 mins early at my tee time? Went and looked for the starter. Found out the two I was supposed to be playing were let out way early. He said the two that jumped in front of me were “members”?!?! Basically implying they can do what they wish. The stater said just go out as a single because the others wee fast. Got to the 4th tee and a foursome were on the tee?!?!
I never go out alone for this reason as nobody wants to wait on every shot. Went back to the pro shop and asked for a refund. This wasn’t easy either. Finally got my refund and left feeling like my money and enjoyment was secondary to members who clearly do what they wish and no start time protocol.
On top of that, the three greens I was able to play had more ball marks than the worst muni course I’ve ever played. Whitney Oaks. A faux country club ! Too many good courses in the area that value their customers. Not this place.
Tough back nine
Lots of blind shots on this tough back nine. Leave your driver in the bag and shoot for approach shot distances.
Beautiful
Beautiful course with plenty of challenges. Best played with experienced players to give course insights. Great experience. Highly recommend!
Blind Shots Gallery
When we arrived they told us it would be a 5-5 1/2 hour round but we got done in 4.25 hours so that was good. Wish they had signs or something to tell you where to hit the ball as many blind shot with extreme dog legs. Don't think I want to play it again. Like to see that I'm aiming for.
I play often. With 16 handicap it's almost too difficult
My group was stuck behind a slow moving 4some that was spraying balls everywhere. After 11 holes they waved us up to pass. The leader of the slow pokes admitted "This is our first time here. We didn't realize how hard this golf course is". So be aware if you carry a 20+ handicap you should probably look elsewhere to play. Here you are going to lose a lot of golf balls. You'll be frustrated by the narrow fairways that are lined with trees, thick and high weedy rough and steep ravines. The putting greens are full of roly-poly slopes and the surfaces are linoleum fast. There isn't a flat putting green on this golf course. I shot an 86 which is my 2nd to lowest score after playing this course about 25 times.
Whitney Oaks is challenging golf
My 25th round yesterday. April 2026. Played with two guys who didn't know the course. I got to be tour guide. The guys were 25+ handicaps. Whitney was a bit too challenging for them. They lost a LOT of balls, They seemed to enjoy scrambling around in the thick brush, marsh areas and the stands of trees searching for their balls and finding others. By ball scrounging they were net positive on the ball count by hole #18. No groups behind us so the ball collecting forays were not a problem. Whitney Oaks putting greens are wicked difficult. Not just the hard fast surfaces but from the roly-poly topography. Severe elevation changes on most holes. There isn't a flat green on this golf course. So if you are up for a challenge, come on down. As an indicator of the course difficulty the black tees at the tips have been closed. The blue tees are plenty diffiicult even for scratch golfers.. Despite the challenge here, I love this golf course. Scenic, woodsy, air smells fresh. I always finish with a relaxed smile no matter how well or poorly I played.
Tough
Such a beautiful and difficult course that keeps you think and push your skills. Love it!
CHoose your club wisely
Whitney oaks was in fantastic shape, the greens were very fast, and the course was extremely well maintained. The fairways are tight with heavy rough on the sides and in some cases cutting through the fairway. Driver may not be the right choice as many holes are short, use an iron off the tee and keep the ball in play. If you tend tp dribble off the fairway, bring extra balls. The rough can be like a jungle and you will not find your ball. Also don't play a yellow ball, the ranger uses yellow and they do get sprayed onto a few holes, so locating your yellow ball may be tough. The pace of play on a Sunday afternoon was surprisingly quick. Great course for value, but tough course all around.
Neat course. Lots of good.
Enjoyed the course but a ton of totally blind and punitive holes. Seems like they ran out of room on the back nine and had to finagle a course into a real estate development on not great golf land. Course has many neat things but is quirky.
