Not so Great...
The tee boxes were not in very good shape. The fairways were a bit patchy, with some very wet spots and some very dry spots with no grass. The front of some of the greens were the same, making chipping difficult. I like the course, just needs better maintenance.
Course conditions/pace of play
For the most part, the course is in good condition. This includes tee boxes, fairways, the rough and the greens. It’s also good to see they are making an effort to eradicate the crab grass.
Bunker sand is in good shape as well although it would be nice to have them graded or raked more frequently, especially after watering.
Mike
Course in good shape. I had a hole in one on hole 7!!
Beautiful Course
The Hills Course is one of two in a very put-together subdivision of the town of Lincoln. (One of the streets is named Del Webb, so I think the place was built with well-off retirees in mind.) Very well-appointed pro shop, with courteous staff. Made you feel welcome, but in a relatively sincere way.
Pace of play was pretty good. A foursome in front never had us waiting, and my foursome of high handicappers did okay as well. A midweek late morning time, with a cart, was available here at $44. Mostly a flat track, but there were a few elevation changes that made things interesting. The area is rural but rapidly developing. From the guys I played with, who were regular patrons there, the Hills course is the least challenging of the two (the other's called the Orchard Course). I'd like to try that one too, soon. There's a nice bar attached to the course, and there's an ostensibly upscale restaurant adjacent to the bar. There's a country club vibe to the whole thing. On my way out, I went to the bathroom nearest the entrance to the restaurant. I saw an old lady sitting in front of the restaurant's host podium, sporting a cardigan sweater and an ascot. Sheesh. Glad I wore a collared shirt.
Tricky Greens
The pin positions were in tough places making it a little difficult to figure out which way the ball would roll. Only had 3 one putts, but no three putts. Greens have been aeriated not long ago, but in pretty good condition. Go give it a try and test your putting skills.
bumpy greens, slow play
Perfect weather, ideal conditions, great golf now hot deal, mid week, noontime tee off, but underneath was very slow play, no marshall, and bumpy, slow greens. 4.5 hrs to finish 18
