Copy and Pasting excuses doesn’t improve your course
The condescending message the owners are plastering on every well deserved negative review honestly just make this look so much worse and full of excuses. Was it the weeding that causes the floating dead fish and rats in the water hazards? Was it the Bermuda grass that had trash and sprinkled on multiple greens and fairways and dead birds on the green? Was it the seeding that caused the beverage cart to not have a card reader for 2 months? Zero accountability for terrible course management and still the worst $70 I spent this summer. QUIT MAKING EXCUSES AND DO BETTER.
Cool layout, tough conditions
Nice layout and staff were super nice. With that being said, the course is in a rough condition and the pace wasn’t the best.
I did hear that the course was bought out and in plans to renew it. It was under construction even while I played. I plan to visit in the next 18-24 months..
SUPER ROUGH SHAPE
First time playing here and I was super disappointed. Super rough shape. Greens were good. Tee boxes were super hard need a drill to tee up. For the price of $72 plus tax to play here I would not so many cheap better courses this time of year. Hopefully they can fix but I will not be coming back for a very long time.
Not Worth The Price Of Admission
Extremely bad conditions: dirt and mud everywhere for the past 2 months, No ranger to move folks along = extremely slow pace of play. Cart girl not on holes we played = not good customer service. Price at $35 = not worth half that amount to play there. I just read that they owners want to make the course into housing. Don't waste your money = go play at Camelback or Silverado where they take care of their courses!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're very sorry to hear that your experience at Starfire didn’t meet your expectations.
Your comments about the beverage cart and speed of play we do take seriously and we will continue to improve in those areas.
We understand your concerns, particularly regarding the overall course presentation.
Please know that we are actively working on improving the course conditions as part of a larger plan that will be rolled out over the next few seasons. Our team is committed to elevating the quality of play and ensuring that every part of the course—from tee to green—reflects the standards our guests expect and deserve.
We truly appreciate your patience and hope you’ll consider giving us another try in the future as these improvements take shape.
Sincerely,
The Starfire Golf Team

Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club.
We are so glad you enjoyed the Starfire experience!
Thank you for your feedback, we are always working to improve the experience.
We look forward to welcoming you out again soon!

Terrible
Walked up carrying my bag, cart guy was spreading something on a bagel, said someone over there will help you.(???) Put bag on cart myself.
Walking into pro-shop, guy's walking out, waited until he came back after not acknowledging me.
Course and environment is dead, worst course conditions I've ever played (all summer). After the round cart guy wanted to fight.
Been playing there with my wife, friends and family since 2011, last round was today shredding my summer pass.
Course is in terrible condition and the energy equally drab.
Will take advice from other reviews and spend our money elsewhere. I emailed Travis but followed up with no response needed after reading a ton of reviews that mirror our recent experience.
A lesson in customer service is a must and maybe I should be training for a boxing match instead working on my swing 😀
TOTAL DOG TRACK

Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club!
We recognize the hospitality of our team can make our golfers' experience.
We can proudly say our team makes Starfire a fun place to play and work.
It looks like we missed an opportunity with your group, however.
We will review our hospitality standards with the team to lessen the chance of this reoccurring.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Starfire soon!

Yep: Just learned that the new owners plan to make some of the holes into housing. Not surprising that they let the course get so bad. Better golfing can be had at Papago, Silverado, Orange Tree and Talking Stick.
Don’t waste your money
Even though this place is reasonably priced they have let this place go to trash mud fairways dirt rough it’s not even a golf course anymore it’s sad to see when places let there courses go to complete trash. I was ashamed to take friends to this course after seeing the conditions. Dave yourself the headache and frustration go somewhere else

What you experienced is by design, and part of a $9m course renovation plan designed to completely transform Starfire for its 75th anniversary in December 2028. If you'd like to learn more about that $9m renovation, please see HERE.
When we bought Starfire in September 2024 we found the course didn't meet our quality standards. There are many, many steps to bringing the course back to where we need it to be, but the first is/was the elimination of all weeds, which must be done from April to September. That process leaves brown, bare spots where weeds once were while the bermuda base takes its time to grow back in. That is what you experienced.
Bermuda that's been choked out by rye grass and weeds for many years doesn't all come back in one season. So you can expect that next summer the course will look a lot better than this summer, but still won't be to our standard. And that we'll be at it again. Please consider that before you play here in the summer.
You will find that when we come out of overseed in mid-October Starfire will be a spectacular golf course. So feel free to come back and play then. But whenever you're here, know that what you see is the result of our effort to make the course as good as we can today while simultaneously making it better for tomorrow. Our job is to do that. Your job is to play golf. We wish you the best wherever you choose to do that.

Starfire is not the place to go if you like to golf
Play at Starfire regularly. Already aware of how the rangers don't keep a pace of play going, cart services are hit or miss, and many of the golfers don't know how to play golf. Decided to play on Labor Day. I'm a summer pass holder. Tee time was 2 minutes before the summer pass fee is allowed. Staff made it a point that I knew that I was two minutes early and they won't honor the pass. Proceeded to the tee box where there was no starter/ranger. Groups were going off in whatever order they wanted and not grouping into foursomes. This resulted in several twosomes in front of us with delays which put us well behind our tee time. Also caused the group in front of us to give up after 9. They said, "we're done with this and have better things to do". There were at least three groups waiting on every tee box. There was only one cart girl, on a holiday, for 27 holes of golf. Only saw her once, and she informed us that she was trying to get out of there early. If you can play elsewhere I would, I will be going forward.
Course is beat up, but cheap
Not expensive this time of year, but it does not look as though much effort is being made to have the course stay in decent condition. A lot of dirt patches in the fairways that need to be marked off as under repair and seeded / watered or it will never get to where it needs to be. Staff is friendly and helpful.

My first nine holes of this car hurt so bad that I can’t even describe it. The back line was bad, but somewhat playable aerated chunks all over the place. The course should not be open for.

Great staff and good value
This is a really friendly course, well laid out and definitely elements of challenge. As always in August, the course condition is affected by any monsoons, but the course team are always working hard. Piece of play is affected by tee time. Early teatime are often busy.

Thank you for the review! We are also happy to see you enjoyed our Starfire team, the friendliest team in the Scottsdale area. We all look forward to having you back again soon!

It was just ok
Just bummed when I called I asked about conditions I was lied to. The course was in horrible shape which is due to preparing for winter. I completely understand but should have been told and I would have picked another course if I knew how bad this was going to be.

COURSE NEEDS WORK - STAFF MAKES IT BETTER
The course was in rough shape. Greens weren't bad but the fairways, especially front nine were terrible. Back nine was slightly better but the course would have received a 2 but the staff was excellent. Check in and clubhouse staff were very professional, friendly and made the day enjoyable. They did not have a cart girl so have to stock up on your beverages of choice before you went out.

Poor conditions
Course is not maintained well enough to justify the price. I’d rather go to a driving range than play a round here.

Worst Course Conditions Ever
This is the worst course I’ve ever played. There was no grass on the fairways, the tee boxes are overgrown, every water hazard was so full it was flooding the rest of the course (standing water 8 inches deep in spots). There is garbage all over the course. The staff is super rude. I wouldn’t play here again if they paid me.

Yep: Agreed. Played with a foursome and we agree that it is not worth playing.
