Wilson at Griffith Park Golf Courses

The greens are AWFUL. Fairways are really bad. Not much else to say. Kind of embarrassing that Encino and Balboa have immaculate greens and Wilson and Harding are the opposite. Fix it!

What I mean by thin is, the very top layer grass is too thin, it’s very flimsy, so when they have the greens kinda soft, it gets ripped apart by ballmarks as the ball lands. And then nobody fixes the damaged so they are pockmarked and the recovery takes too long so it’s literally a minefield of little holes. If you do try to repair them, the grass is so soft and flimsy it’s difficult to fix them smoothly. They put on the wrong kind of grass here. They need to redo the whole surface. They do make them firm sometimes and that’s actually better. But then they get so slick that most amateurs are pinging back and forth which ends up in 5 and half hour plus type rounds. They can’t win.

Tees are starting to recover, mostly, but some of them are rock hard and others thick and spongy so you lose footing on the tees either way, which is really annoying. Obviously the rains we had helped a lot, but now the heat is killing the place again. They can’t win. But they can put more effort into maintaining the place, you would think.

Group ahead of us was way behind on pace of play. 4 guys on their phones were a full hole behind the group ahead of them after just 2 holes. Spending 10 minutes to look for lost balls instead of just taking drop. The slow pace upset the group behind us, so they kept hitting into our group. After the 5th time we yelled at them hitting into us wont make the group ahead play any faster. A course marshal would have been helpful.

¾ of the greens are damaged. They have dead brown fungus patches and some have been sanded on those areas to dry out of the fungus. All of the greens had been punched with Small Holes a couple days ago to soften them up, and that’s fine, but they rolled terrible today because of it.

Rest of the course is OK, decent grass mostly with a couple fairways being repaired like 6.

They removed the dead clumpy tree on the right side of 16!! It’s now a wide open shot to the green from there! You can get away with a spray over there now.

It never rains in Southern California in the summer time…. And it sprinkled! Might be the most humid day in August I’ve ever experienced here. Cloudy most of the day and it sprinkled a bit. But due to the humidity most of the course stayed moist, which made it kinda sloppy on many shots.

The course conditions weren't great, but the layout was fun.

Course is in very good shape but pin placements pretty much insured a 3 putt unless you were 6 feet below the pin.

Gray challenging courses for all levels. Had a great time pace. The play was great course Conditions or fair. I would recommend this course.
