Golfer Reviews
Need a Marshal
Group ahead of us was way behind on pace of play. 4 guys on their phones were a full hole behind the group ahead of them after just 2 holes. Spending 10 minutes to look for lost balls instead of just taking drop. The slow pace upset the group behind us, so they kept hitting into our group. After the 5th time we yelled at them hitting into us wont make the group ahead play any faster. A course marshal would have been helpful.
Solid C minus
¾ of the greens are damaged. They have dead brown fungus patches and some have been sanded on those areas to dry out of the fungus. All of the greens had been punched with Small Holes a couple days ago to soften them up, and that’s fine, but they rolled terrible today because of it.
Rest of the course is OK, decent grass mostly with a couple fairways being repaired like 6.
They removed the dead clumpy tree on the right side of 16!! It’s now a wide open shot to the green from there! You can get away with a spray over there now.
It never rains in Southern California in the summer time…. And it sprinkled! Might be the most humid day in August I’ve ever experienced here. Cloudy most of the day and it sprinkled a bit. But due to the humidity most of the course stayed moist, which made it kinda sloppy on many shots.
If only they can figure out the maintenance at these Munis…:
Doesn’t anybody care?
Gem in the city
Gray challenging courses for all levels. Had a great time pace. The play was great course Conditions or fair. I would recommend this course.
POP 5Hrs+ Short game area is destroyed. Why are we playing extra for this place?
Why is Griffith Park considered more in price than Encino? The layout? The location? The history?
Because the conditions are way better at Encino. Encino’s short game area is really good. Sure, the bunker areas at any of the city courses are sad, but at least the short game chipping area at Encino is really good. So why is Wilson’s short game area as sad as somebody’s armpit low end country bumpkin poor man’s muni???? It’s so sad!!!
The Pace of Play today was over 5 hours after lunch. Sure it’s a Friday, and there are lots of people out there but it got stacked with 3 groups on Hole 3, and again on Hole 8!!!! Why????? How is that even possible???? And nobody came out to move people along. Having said that the group behind us was a hole behind also, I have no idea how people can play so slowly. Just play ready golf, and move along!!! You’re not a Pro!!!
They punched the greens a month ago!!!! And some of them looked like they weren’t even punched!!!! What is it with the weird splotches all over some of them??? Some of them looked like they have some kind of weird spotted animal pattern to them, not from the punch holes but from the grass seeds failed to sprout or something. They looked like they need to be punched again.
Some of the tees are dead or lumpy, and it’s like this every year, and is mind blowing how they can never fix it or make and attempt to fix it. 4 tee is trashed!!!
So what are we being charged extra for????? Why should we pay more for Wilson than Encino???
Recently they asked us to do a Questionnaire about what to do with Encino/Balboa/Woodley in the Sepulveda Dam basin. Well, if you can’t even take care of Griffith Park, with the extra you’re charging, what are you asking us about????
It’s the same issues EVERY YEAR!!!!
Such a fine shining example of what is the typical disaster that is public city-run institution that is Parks and Rec in LA.
Stay Away
This course has fallen into shameful conditions. Greens were punched weeks ago and have mostly healed, but for some reason greens still shaggy. I am not exaggerating when I say they were running at a 5 on the stimpmeter, it got to the point where once I hit the green I picked up because putting was pointless.
The Koreans can have it, they have basically taken this place over anyways. The cart barn attendant literally spoke to me in Korean when I picked up and dropped off the cart. Bizarre.
