About
Atypical of many Florida golf courses, RedTail Golf Club is a links-style layout dotted with 100-year-old oak trees and azaleas among its rolling green fairways. Designed by Dave Harman, who also did Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, the course features four lakes with water coming into play on the last five holes. Holes 14-18 work their way around the largest lake on the course, while the finishing hole's approach shot plays over another body of water in front of the clubhouse. Located in rural Sorrento a little more than a half hour north of Orlando, RedTail Golf Club prides itself on catering to "members only."

Golfer Reviews
A tough first time and not for short hitters
I had hear this course was nicer than another in the area and got a chance to give it a try since I had other business in the area...and, the price was not bad. I checked in and was told there were some others that were supposed to be playing at the same time I was going out as a single. So, I went to the practice area to warm up and wait for the rest of the group. At my tee time, no one else had shown up so...I decided to start out on my own. The first hole from the Gold tees (I'm a short hitting old guy)...gave you about 200 yards before the fairway broke into an overgrown valley/waste area, and then about 150 carry across the waste to the green. On the one hand it wasn't the typical Florida water hazard carry to the green...but, it your ball was a 5 yards short of the green it was just as lost.
They had a few holes like that, with broken fairways, and none of them used a lake or a stream...definitely different in this area. Several greens had significant dead areas (it looked like some sort of fungus had killed the grass. Fairways had a lot of weeds, but the weeds were mowed just like the rest of it. An issue for me was...if you set up a shorter tee for those of us who don't hit it as far, and then require 180 carry to reach short grass, you really haven't made the course playable for short hitters. I was in a couple of bunkers, and saw several more...I don't think they had seen a power rake in weeks and were hard packed, and several had weeds. With the rain around here, if you don't power rake frequently your bunkers go south quickly.
My pace of play was really pretty good except for about 4 holes...on the 8th and 9th I played behind a 4 some, who let me through going to the 10th. Not a big delay. I caught up with and joined another single on the 13th. He was behind a threesome who were behind a foursome (so it wasn't like they could let us through and we would go anywhere). So the last four holes were much slower (but really about normal pace).
This could be a nice course with some work...but I suspect they don't have the traffic to support doing the work...so we have the chicken and egg...how do you increase traffic and revenue in order to improve conditions if you need to improve conditions in order to increase traffic and revenue.
Given the set up...and the low probability I will get 20-30 yards of carry back at this age...I don't think I will come back and find out.
Horrible Condition
The tee box, fairway, and greens are all in terrible shape. It's just insane how bad this course is. The sad part is the layout is very nice but that's where it starts and ends 😔 #CourseImprovement #GolfCourseReview
First time
Challenging layout but fair. The rough can be brutal, but it should be. Will be back to this course in the future.
Had to cancel due to rain
It was a beautiful course and clubhouse. When I pulled into parking lot the weather had turned and we were having a pretty intense thunderstorm. I called the clubhouse and told them to cancel my tee time. I have not seen a refund from golf now but that would be nice.
Good
Tee boxes aren’t great and some overgrown rough, but price is good and greens are pretty nice. We had fun and pace was great!
Getting Better
Although reviews have been pretty harsh, the course is getting better. Greens have improved considerably. Fairways are filling out. Layout is varied, not boring. Worth revisiting.
Improving
Have played here many times. The course is improving with the frequency of the rain. Greens are finally getting back to a respectable condition. Hopefully if we don’t have a drought during the rest of the season, the tee boxes and fairways can recover.
Much improved
Haven’t played here in over a year because the conditions were unplayable in my opinion. Course is much improved and very playable now. Greens are in great shape but a little long to keep them healthy. Crews were actively out working to improve the bunkers and tee boxes when I played. Staff was also very friendly. Keep up the great work! I’ll be back soon.
Halfway there
The course has made some improvements. The greens are very healthy but when I played two times in the last month, the front nine was not cut in the back nine they’re running about 6 on the step leaving them up a little high, but I think they’re afraid of losing them. The fairways are coming back but the bunkers need major work and the tee boxes as well.
Good layout
Course has a great layout,But it needs a lot of love.Greens we're Pretty good a couple with patches,The fairways and bunkers needs a lot of work. Once they fix this the course it will be a great course to play. Been the first time I enjoyed it.
Really needs work
Well, from former times at this course I was very disappointed with all of it. Everything needs to have a lot of work done. I know they are trying but so much needs to be done. I assume there is no funds available for this or it would have been corrected. I've seen this course go from a beauty to something very undesirable. Time will tell if this course survives. Lovely track and fun to play when in great condition.
Interesting links style course with lots of elevation changes. Decent layout. Fairways were a little rough in some areas and some of the greens had patches that need attention, but in all fairness, other courses seem to be having similar issues. I will play there again, but probably try a different time of year to see if conditions improve.
Red Tail is better than ever
I first played at Red Tail in 2016. I remember the course being challenging and fun. I then didn't play it for many years and returned last year. Although it was still challenging and fun, the conditions were less than stellar. For the entirety of the last year, I avoided the course because of reviews online. Today, we decided to give it a shot again. From the fairways to the greens to the tee boxes, this course is absolutely fantastic. It is great for the value, and the conditions are a delight to play in. Drew and his staff are absolutely wonderful and they do a phenomenal job of taking care of the course. The staff truly cares about their jobs, and the grounds and amenities are very well taken care of. If you haven't played RedTail recently because of something you read online, I highly recommend you visit the course and make your own conclusion. I'm glad I did and I know that I will be going there regularly.
Great layout
I love going to this course. I shoot just below 100, so having a pristine course is not my main goal. I love it because it cheap, nice layout and is not that busy. If that's what you are looking for this is a great place for that.
Great layout, terrible conditions
This course is not what it once was, this place has a fantastic layout but currently looks like they aren’t spending a dime on maintenance. The tee boxes are trash, multiple greens that are un-putt-able depending on where you land and you can’t tell where the fairway stops and rough starts on majority of holes. Real disappointment and won’t be back.
In the last two months I played in Metro West, Disney, Orange Tree, Wekiva, Zellwood and Red Tail. I am not sure what people are talking about with the conditions of the fairways or bunkers because it’s the middle of July and a lot of courses have a few issues. But this was an awesome course and the staff was phenomenal! I went with my brother and we will definitely be back. Coach Wells
