Championship at Colony West Country Club

We have played this course a few times and although I enjoy the layout I'm not certain we will play again in the foreseeable future.

When Troon took this course over a couple of years back I expected/hoped for a new focus on the course. They have updated the pro shop and, The View, the onsite restaurant is a hidden gem, but the course conditions remain lacking.

The tee boxes are beat up. On each of them it is nearly impossible to find a clean, level lie. The fairways are an odd mix of overgrown grass that resembles rough and bare spots with little to no grass whatsoever. I understand that recent, wet weather may have contributed to the overgrown areas but these conditions did not happen overnight. The attention to conditions seems to be an afterthought.

To make matters worse, south FL golfers must be the worst in the world at repairing ball marks on the greens. I repaired no less that five on each of them as we played and they still looked pockmarked. I simply do not understand this level of negligence from fellow golfers.

All that said, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Hopefully the course catches up at some point.

All the tee boxes were basically dirt. But still a good course to play.

When I set my teatime is was for the cheaper course. When I arrived they told me I would have to pay the difference for the better course. I thought ok sure wasn’t much more and should be nice. I was very wrong. The fairways were awfully. The grass to dirt ratio was not bit great. Greens were okay but so many dead spots or chunks missing from the green. I would not recommend this course.

Course has really declined in the past year. Greens were uncut and patchy. No water jugs out on the course. Fairways were alright. Tee boxes were rough. Also kinda weird but there were a lot of random people walking around on the course.

Course does show some improvement. Still a few tee boxes w weeds and sand to hit from. Cart paths are in need of some serious repair work. Also, on this day, we dropped our bags at bag drop area and went in to pro shop to get starters receipt. When we went to check cart w bags, the bags were still sitting at the drop area and no carts pulled out front. Starter was just sitting in a cart on his phone. We had to walk back to get our bags, load them up after we had to walk over to get our own cart. Totally unprofessional. On a positive note, Cindy at The View restaurant was on point as always. We are Monday golf regulars.

Got paired up with a good group so the round was fun. Greens were pretty slow and inconsistent. Tee boxes were a mess and need attention. The layout of this course is challenging. If the conditions were better this would be a great local course

The group in front of us must have had money on the line. Every shot and putt over analyzed. Or a cart would go to one persons shot then go to theirs. Golf etiquette dictates you drop a player at his shot and go to yours.

Yup. 5 1/2 hours to play 18 holes. This was by far the longest and least enjoyable round of golf I’ve ever played. Course conditions were meh. I wouldn't play here again. I would recommend this course to someone I did not like.

Tee boxes are in very rough shape, mostly patchy grass and sand. The greens are also in rough shape, be prepared to 3-putt every hole. The pace of play was one of the worst I have ever played. This would never happen in Naples, there is no reason why 18 holes should be over 5 hours, where the are the rangers to enforce pace of play?!?! The course overall has potential but I would never play this course again in its current state.

Champ Course is in ok shape. Tee boxes need work as well as golf cart paths. Terrible shape.

I do want to give props to Cindy and Madison in the View restaurant. Great bartender, Cindy and great manager Madison. Always there with a smile friendly service. Good food and drinks at very reasonable prices…

What was a great course and a lot of fun to play has turned into a goat ranch run by a bunch of cranky old guys who just jam people out for a 5 1/2 hour round of golf with no water on the course. The condition of the entire course has deteriorated with so little investment in fixing they might as well just shut it down and sell it for Real Estate.

This could be a really nice course if they put some effort into it. Some Tee boxes are all sand and weeds. Cart paths are full of potholes. Our cart stopped on hole 13 back 9. Thankfully staff came right out with no issues.

On a positive note, the restaurant “The View” is very nice. Well priced food and beverages and a very friendly staff. Cris behind the bar and Manager Madison are always on point..

Colony, i have been playing your champ course for years! Always an extremely challenging track but the conditions of the course are the worst I have ever seen. I can tell the greens were punched a few weeks ago but they are coming back inconsistent and not well maintained. Some of the tee boxes are just sand! Not sure what’s going on but it will be a while until i consider returning.
