Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club - Silver Pony Course
About
In 2009 the “Silver Pony Course” at Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club was created. It is an executive length short course with tee boxes on Silverado’s front nine.
The concept was developed to accommodate the local youth, golfers new to the game, and players who simply want to play a quick nine holes.

Too slow
2 hours 40 minutes to play the front nine…just not acceptable. Couldn’t finish the back nine as sunset with 4 holes to go…Every tee and every shot waiting. Not sure where the problem was or if they booked too many.
Conditions were ok with a little chewed up on tees and close to greens.
This course is short with six par threes.
At my age or 77 shorter courses provide a more enjoyable round.
Not as good as it could be
The fairways were not as good as they should be for April 20th. The tee boxes were showing quite a bit of wear and the greens were thin in many spots.
Even though many carts were replaced last year there is still no GPS or even a cooler attached to the carts. Obviously, no complimentary water either.
The practice green is fine, but no driving range available.
A lot of negatives for $130.
Weird staff, ok course
Man the guys working there are weird! Off-hand comments checking in, strange questions, and worst of all pressing us for tips at the end of my round. Decent course though ok conditions
Overpriced
We were extremely disappointed by the course. Paying $300 per person, I would expect the course to be outstanding. Maybe worth $85 for 18 holes - definitely not $300. The back nine was slightly better than the front nine. Not a course I would recommend or play again. Bummed we didn’t golf somewhere else and save some money or have a better experience. We did golf at other clubs in the area over the weekend that were priced lower and phenomenal courses. Made us regret our choice to play Silverado even more. At least should have a real driving range and not just a couple nets.
Weekend play
Even on a weekend, $199 is overpriced. The tee boxes and some spots on the fairways were beat up and in bad shape. Some traps didn't have enough sand. Nice wide fairways, which gave me less opportunities to get in trouble. Even though the group in front of us had a 5 some, we kept pace.
The entire staff was friendly. However, I didn't understand why we had to order our food and drinks just inside , and not get served outside on the patio?
What a waste of money
We have played better courses for a lot less money. It’s more a $75 18 hole course. Definitely not worth the $209 we paid. We played the Biltmore for less money today and it is our favorite course EVER! Don’t waste your money on 💩 Silverado!!!
Disappointed
This course is easily playable in 3 hours
or a bit more. We teed off 25 minutes after scheduled time. Course was overly packed with foursomes except for single playing ahead of course. We gave up after 13 holes. We should have easily completed all 18 holes. Also, course was in desperate need of water. Grass was exceeding thin throughout. Course would be a hidden gem if pace of play was controlled (starting with over scheduling) and proper watering.
Average Conditions, Terrible Bunkers, Long Rides Between Some Holes
The front nine conditions are not very good. The back nine conditions are a little better. But the bunkers are terrible. There are very long rides (probably more than 400 yards) after three of the holes on the back nine. Signage to direct you toward the start of these long rides and the distance to travel does not exist. The travel from 11th green to the 12th tee is on a long narrow sidewalk in front of houses that are not on the course property. The front nine does not return to the clubhouse if you want to grab some food.
Would not take a gift Card
I reserved three teetimes total cost 450 something. When I got to the course I went to pay to very nice people at the desk and when I handed them the gift cards they were like oh we’re sorry we’re not able to process those. I asked why since I received them just at Christmas time. They said that they had not been able to process gift cards since January because of some kind of software update. This is the middle of April I asked how did they expect me to pay and they said cash or credit card. They said that the gift cards were never expired and I would be able to use them any time. I pointed out that the guest that I had brought was leaving in two days and this would not work for him. They were very sorry about that. One of them eventually called the manager who came out and said yeah it was a glitch somewhere and they hadn’t been able to work it out and yeah, I would have to pay cash or credit card. But don’t worry your gift card never expires. I walked out to talk to the other guest. We had decided not to play there. And we were pretty upset. I was also going to let them know, they had my money, but was not letting me play the course. When I went into the shop the manager was there and he said here let me take your cards, I have got another way of making them work. And he did. I wonder how many people since January have been turned away from using their gift cards which they have already paid money to the club for. Not a good look at all.
Would not honor gift certificates until we threatened to leave
I had a $450 gift certificate to pay for three people at Silverado. When I went to the desk, the people behind the desk were very nice but apologetic and said I’m sorry, but we can’t take gift cards at this time. I asked why and I was told their system has been down since the beginning of January and won’t accept gift cards. . I was told if I wanted to play I had to pay via cash or credit card. The manager came out and said Yep they’ve been having this issue and when I said OK then I won’t play immediately said let me see what I can do and took the cards back into his office and came out and said I got them to work another way. This is the middle of April. Why they haven’t fixed the system that has been broken since January is beyond me, and I wonder how many people have been prevented from paying via their gift cards. I think this is really poor customer service.
Great twilight choice in Scottsdale
Skipped bag drop and the cart guys still walked out half way to my car to grab my bag which was a great first impression. The fairways are wide and easy to hit, good enough shape on them. The greens were the only blemish on my round overall they were pretty sandy but they rolled ok regardless. Jim the ranger was a treat to talk to while I was waiting to take my tee shot on 8, great guy. Go rockets Jim.
Started just before 4 and finished before 7 cannot complain about that! 14-17 are brutal to play into the sunset so be prepared!
Had fun.
Your starter was great and he needs to be commended. Very friendly and a pleasure to have had him there both times I have played. Can not remember his name but it was late and he sgtill was very friendly.
