testing little course
Difficult 9 hole course
very good in the summer but dreadful in winter
dog walkers across course but that’s at their own risk
very good value for money at £6.50
Shame Really
The course is not in the greatest condition £6.5 you can’t complain.
It’s the random people walking in through the middle every 30 seconds.
The worst is there was kids running into the fairway and robbing the balls, now I don’t hit many fairways so it’s very annoying, I know kids just being kids which is ok in bushes etc, but running into the middle and grabbing balls is just ridiculous, won’t be coming back it gets worse each year.
We go to have a laugh, if you take golf remotely serious, please don’t go, I guarantee it will not be fun for you.
Ok to practice on
First time playing this 9 hole course, greens were not greens and putting was a lottery., with a bit of money spent this could be a nice course. It’s cheap for a reason, if your just learning and want to hack around then this is a course for you, its definitely not for a serious golfer.
Played on Pennington Golf course and was rather disappointed with the condition of the fairways, Could well be the time of year with autumn settling in.
Also the Greens had some big divots in them making them unplayable.
Wigan Council " Take the Survey"
For some years the area area around the 5/6 holes have flooded, the Council have done nothing to fix the the problem. Yes it's a flood plain but that is only an excuse for doing nothing.
Currently the Council have decided to offer two remedies, see Leigh Journal and Council website plus details in the Cafe.
Golfers complete the survey with reasons why it should remain.
The two alternatives offered are not conjusive to a testing game of golf as those who play at the course know only to well.
A shortened course or return to wet lands are the options with gimmicky additions.
Over crowded with dog walkers and picnics
The course is set out nicely, the tee boxes are in bad condition most of them are sandy dirt with very little grass.
The course is set in a public park and they use the course to walk dogs or go for a stoll.
Every hole we had people walking in front of us with dogs ,throwing sticks and balls.
One dog actually stole my partners ball ,wouldn't recommend also you have to pay for parking.
On the second hole we has toast a guy to move on cause he was sat in the middle of the fairway eating a bag of oranges.
Small course
Decent course for a knock around or practice round. Tight in places, fairways need a good cut, and some of the greens are in poor condition. But for £7.50 it's ok
Great day out
Me and my 13 year old son had a brilliant 9 holes. We are very new to golf, and this course was perfect.
Tough 9 holer
£7.50 to play £2.50 to park. For 10 pounds you cant grumble. The greens arnt the best and the fairways and tee boxes need attention. All this said it was playable and is a tough challenge for any average golfer of which i am.. Theres a lot of water which comes into play as river winds its way through the course..Couple of great par 3,s and the 9th is a monster par 5.
A bit of a weird one
If you going for a laugh it’s ok. There are plenty of dog walkers in fairways which is an interesting hazard.
Also enough players with no shirt and music speakers sporadically placed as you go round 😂
Really bad.
Well I haven't played here for 4 years and I was shocked. The course was in really poor condition and greens were just terrible and not really greens. I think the worse part was people walking dogs up and down the fairways no leads and 2 youths walking 5 dogs running free and 2 were the cane corso and 1 XL bully. Also people pushing prams across the fairways and small children running around. It should be closed and opened as a country park extension.
To many dog walkers
It’s an ok course to practice on but the fairways are like the rough on a decent course and the greens are like the fairways but can’t complain about that for the price but what lets it down is the amount of dog walkers it’s a massive country park why walk your dog on the golf course they don’t even cut across people walking in circles on the fairways shouldn’t be allowed
Great course for the price!
Take the 5 stars with a pinch of salt as the conditions are reflective of the cheap green fees. However for a high handicapper looking for a cheap and cheerful course for a quick round (after work in my case) you will be hard pressed to find better value for money anywhere. The layout of the course and length of some of the holes make for a really interesting challenge with plenty of variety. Were this course maintained as well as some of the courses that are five or ten times the price it really would be brilliant.
GolfNow wrong price
GolfNow your price for this is wrong, It's actually £6 to play at anytime just turn up too pay @ play
Good for practicing not for a round
Played there today and there isn’t any fairways! Just rough rough and bogs. It could be such a great course. If you would like to practice playing of the rough great place.
