About

Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Punished for a discounted time

I was disappointed that Lynn in the pro-shop told us we could not go off early because we had a discounted tee time. The first tee was open, but she made us wait.

Obviously if the tee sheet was filled, we cannot go until our time. However, if the course is going to offer these Hot Deal tee times, it’s unfortunate that you’re treated differently for purchasing it.

Other than this, Pac Grove will always be my favorite course on the peninsula.

Bumpy and Slow Greens and Bumpier Fairways

The front 9 was forgetable. Looked and played like every muni I’ve ever seen. The back 9 was scenic and fairly enjoyable, albeit windy and foggy.

Glad We Played But No Need To Go Back

The location of the course is great...fabulous ocean views on the back nine and herds of deer on the front. Not really clear where to find the driving range, and some of the fairways are confusing as to where to go. Greens are bumpy (deer have free range to walk wherever), and the course is what you'd expect for a hard-played public course. But if you want better greens with this kind of view, you'll have to go to any of the Pebble Beach courses.

Views on the back nine are great. But course conditions are mediocre at best, course design is negligible (see 18 for one of the most boring finishing holes) and tee boxes don’t have much differentiation from the course. Definitely red to be wary of friendly fire as well.

This course for price is great. I have local courses a good tier below charging more where in my area. I was happy with the overall course. Course is very friendly for high handicap golfer or a great first course if you are playing one of the more expensive courses in the area.

Real pretty course, especially the back nine along the bay.

Laid back vibe, Lots of small greens and short par 4s.
