It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.

The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Beautiful and challenging course.

Our first time playing Bayonet. Beautiful course. In excellent condition. Hands off to maintenance team. Green is a bit tough. Many bunkers. Course management comes into play. Some holes have view of the ocean. Beautiful cypress trees. Friendly staff from pro shop to starter to the restaurant. Good food. Good drinks. Will definitely come back someday.

Very slow

It was extremely slow the pace of play. The Ranger didn’t do anything to speed it up and it was very frustrating to pay all that money for one of the slowest rounds I’ve ever played.

Staff wasn’t pleasant

Played the front nine in 2.5 hours behind a group of older gentleman. They had holes in front of them before the next group. Talked to starter after the front 9 and he had attitude off the bat. Then we were told it was a holiday weekend by a marshal and that is it what it is. Instead of politely letting us play through or telling them to try and speed it up we just got talked back too
