Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
Following a $13 million renovation at this 36-hole former military facility, Black Horse Golf Course was not only dramatically improved, but now comparable to its more revered sister course, Bayonet. Black Horse has long been considered the easier of the two, but that's not exactly a given now with the improvements and lengthening by golf course architect Gene Bates. Its serrated bunkers may be a little easier to get out of than the cavernous craters on Bayonet, and the fairways are little more generous, but Black Horse makes up for it with more undulating and difficult greens. The renovation also opened up the views to Monterey Bay for both courses. Trees were trimmed, and both courses now have an overall cleaner look, especially with the latest bentgrass turf from tee to green.

Black horse
The person at the check in could not have been nicer. The course was in excellent shape, green were fast. I will absolutely be back. A great experience.
Awesome course
From beginning to end to end
The pace of play great no waiting on any hole.
Greens putted very true great shape, ball marks were little to none .
Fairways mowed clean 3/4” nap pristine green .
Staff were friendly and professional.
Cart girl was also friendly and made her rounds regularly. Can’t wait for my next visit.

Great condition from tee to green. Layout is beautiful and the green complexes are difficult. Excellent pro shop and restaurant. can’t wait to play again tomorrow.
Beautiful vistas
We really enjoyed our round at Black Horse. It was a challenging course.
Loving the new sandy look of Black Horse
Black Horse has always been overshadowed by the ferocious Bayonet, but the new fairway grass and sandscapes surrounding them have really elevated the whole playing experience. Considering the cost of golf on the Monterey Peninsula, teeing it up at either course for $125 or less has to be considered a bargain. The duo are always in good shape and on good days provide golfers glimpses of the ocean.
Snotty Counter Boy
I got done early with my round and asked the counter boy if I could go back out for my second 18 as a single. Counter boy didn’t even look at the computer and said No, you need to wait for your time which was 4 hours away. It was like starting all over again when I did get to play. Counter boy should learn to work with people instead of acting like an A hole because he’s in a control position. No one likes a PrI cK

Super difficult greens but it was the nicest and coolest place I've ever played. I had so much fun!

We loved the course! Good practicing area, range balls were included with our booking. Tee box and fairways are all in good condition. Good value. Would come back.
