Southbridge Savannah Golf Club

I've played this course several time over the summer, and generally...it's a good layout and great value @ the "Hot Rates" (when available). One word of caution: playing here after a substantial rain is not nearly as enjoyable as it is normally. That was the condition I played it under my last visit.

Unfortunately, this course has never drained well. So, in too many areas, hitting off the turf is akin to trying to hit your ball off "pancake batter"...just extremely soft & muddy. Couple that with "cart path only" and you'll question whether playing here is worth the time & money.

So, if it's been dry, definitely give it a go...but if it's rained recently, proceed with caution.

I last played this course about a year ago and the greens were in sad shape. The group I play with enjoys this course layout, which is challenging yet at the same time you can score well if you hit the shots. So we decided to play it and see how the greens were. They have made cast improvements to the greens. They still have more progress to make but you can see they are working on them. The greens were running slow but that's because the are letting them grow in. The rest of the course was in excellent shape, with the exception of a few tee boxes. The grounds crew is doing an excellent job. We will definitely be back

Pleasantly surprised by the conditions. While no means perfect / pristine...it was certainly wasn't bad, and definitely worth the price.

Some greens were better than others, but overall better than I expected. Very slow, though, which is understandable given the heat, and trying get some bare spots to grow in. The fairways were generally good, with some juicy rough.

Only minor complaints: the cart paths paths are broken up & rough and the ball washers had no water in them.

I had not played in many years and a friend of mine played about a few years ago and said the greens were in terrible condition. A few of the greens still have some issues but overall, they were pretty good. The practice green is probably the worst of them. I love the layout and the fairways are in great shape. For what I paid, it was a very good value. The staff was friendly, and the pace of play was excellent.

The course has a lot of potential. It is a good layout that could provide adequate challenges to golfers of all levels. Unfortunately, the course needs some significant attention. The worst part was that the majority of the greens were in very poor condition. The 4th hole has the potential to be a great par 3 with a large and severely undulating multi-tiered green. Sadly the green was so bad - multiple bare spots, weeds, and fungus - that it was basically unplayable. The 12th was very similar - a potentially wonderful par 3 ruined by a bad green. It is apparent that the course doesn’t drain very well as there was way too much standing water and way too many wet areas. I had several approaches plug so badly on the 1st and 2nd cut around the green that I had to be on top of the ball to find it and then pry it out of the earth. The maintenance crew appears to be unaware (or not care) as there are way too many tire ruts in the rough and fairways. Most of the greens were not in good shape…and even those that were mostly intact were very slow. I read a recent review that said the greens were “firm and fast”; they were not. They were fuzzy (as if they hadn’t been mowed or rolled in quite some time) and very slow - probably rolling at a 6 (or worse).

On the positive side of things, the pro shop staff was very friendly and courteous as was the bartender. The pace of play was great (but it was a Wednesday afternoon and 98 degrees) and the course design/layout is very good. The course has so much potential. I’d love to experience it after an extensive amount of TLC from the greenskeeper and maintenance team…

Let’s be honest this is a Savannah area and when it rains of course it never goes away quickly.

The course lay out is fun and gives a good challenge. Gives you opportunities to try different shots and take some chances.

Pace of play is usually good at this course as long as it’s not to packed. So pick your time accordingly.

Now with the rain that we’ve been having lately yes the course was most definitely wet. Some shots ball is completely sunken in the ground, parts of the fairway are flooded and just muddy. A lot of the roughs around the greens were thick and muddy.

Saying that the rough was most definitely rough. Grass was easily 5” high and thick. That and being muddy makes it a bit difficult to have a nice easy chip.

Tee boxes have been in better shape previous times being out here but I have also seen them worse, so they weren’t to terrible.

Greens I was happy with, grass was nice and greens weren’t super fast. Every hole had a decent little break close to it so was able to work on some putting.

Only thing I feel was they could have maybe offered lower pricing with the conditions of the course but once again it does cost money to keep a course updated and looking good. So mixed feelings about that.

Over all yes I will play this course again because I do enjoy the layout and it has some pretty nice holes I enjoy playing.

Super nice staff. Course played well despite being really wet. Challenging but not difficult. I would not recommend renting clubs from here. 50 dollar rental, no 9 Iron, no PW, and driver was broken / rattling. Pretty course, some really scenic hikes, especially the back 9.

I have played this course 10 times since Sept.25’and the hard work is seen on course and green conditions! IMO one of my favorite courses will play again soon thanks again. This course will be great again soon 85%

This was actually the first golf course I ever played after moving here last September. The recent green restoration has made a huge difference—there are hardly any bare spots left, and the old indentations are now barely noticeable. The greens are slow side, but they’re rolling well and the course is in great shape overall. Great to see how much it’s improved.

You may have heard this course has turned around and things are better. Don't believe one word of it. The greens are dirt, the bunkers are full of mud and weeds, the fairways have weeds, and there's mud everywhere. the car paths are full of potholes and the pace of play is awful. We're done with southbridge, we won't be fooled again!

The greens were in poor shape to start the season but have improved remarkably!

The course was really to wet to play. After getting on it I was surprised it was open. The staff were very nice.

The people, the pace, and the layout are great. But the fairways are in bad shape and the greens are closer to fairways. The clubhouse is rebuilding and fixing many greens. I will play here again in about 6 months and I hope the grass is in better conditions. Thanks.

For some reason I’m unable to give stars above. I’d have given 4 stars all the way, but 5 for the staff and 3 for the pace of play (was behind a foursome of fathers with young sons, so I hate to complain).

Played 9 today and had a really good time. The fairways were in great shape, nicely mowed. The greens are really coming along nicely. I put well and even though the greens are a work in progress I had zero issues putting. The staff is doing a darn nice job. Southbridge is a fair course and a fair price. Come visit and have a good time.
