Excellent Golf Course
Gikkespie is an excellent, afforable par 3 course.
I was put in a 3 man behind an a slow 4 man even though I registered for opening tee time. Making the turn to play the course again we were stuck behind a 2 man and two couples and then to slow it down even more they kept turning the water on. I quit on the 12th tee box.
Gillespie
Corse was very wet due to rain. Only played and thankfully not many players that day as only have 9 holes to play 18. Can’t imagine playing 18 holes here when busy.
Great value. Great course condition.
My first time playing Gillespie. The course was in great shape including greens. Can't beat the price at $24 riding for 18. The downside here is the pace of play. I was lucky enough to go off the front nine at the first tee time of 8am. Played in 1 hour and 20 minutes. The "back" 9 took 3.5 hours. Lol! I would definitely be back for the 8am front 9!
Great place to play and feel the history
The course, facilities, staff and other golfers were amazing. Beautifully laid out and challenging course. If you are a history buff and a golfer, this place has something to interest you.
Great public course!!
You probably can’t get better value for your money. This course is really well priced, well maintained, staff and other players are pleasant, and it has a cafeteria inside that’ll club house. Scenic holes, we’ll be back!
Historic Course
I’ve practiced at Gillespie several times in the past and enjoy doing so. I’ve even played the short course once or twice. However, this was my first time playing the course. It was a challenging course, particularly green play. It was well maintained by the staff but I wish other golfers practiced etiquette and repaired their divots on the greens. Overall, it was a nice trek and I’ll be back.
Gillespie golf
Great value for the money. Course and greens were in great shape. I feel they over booked based on pace of play. It’s an easier course which is great for average to beginners however a lot of beginners were out there and it bogged down the pace of play.
Overall though great value!
Gillespie Golf Course
A challenging compact course that is more difficult than it looks on paper. A placement course, the greens are a little tricky to get close to the flag if you are in the wrong position.
Excellent value and staff, challenging, great playing condition
Gillespie Golf Course, a 9-hole layout with two sets of tees, is a gem in the heart of Greensboro.
Bob Brooks and his staff are to be commended for making improvements in playing conditions, even with a municipal course budget.
The Gillespie Park staff makes you feel welcome, whether you're a first timer or a returning player like me.
I initially played Gillespie Golf Course over 20 years ago. I fell in love with the layout immediately!
Gillespie features small greens, with drop off on both sides, capturing even the slightest errant shot.
The greens were in the best shape EVER since I have been playing Gillespie!
Don't go by total distance for the holes and course. Gillespie is a shot-makers' course. The yardage book provided in the pro shop should be your "go to" guide.
I played in a weekday at mid-morning. As a twosome, our pace was just over 4 hours for 18 holes, riding in a cart.
Other courses in the area charge much more than Gillespie Park for green fees. Come play this hidden gem several times.
Do take a look at the mural and what it represents.... trailblazers who fought for the right, and won, to include who wanted to play golf at Gillespie.
Kudos to Gillespie and the city of Greensboro for their foresight to continually fund improvements for the facility.
As I was leaving the course after my round, several First Tee participants were getting ready to play.
They are our future in the game. Support First Tee (I have). Pay it forward to the next generation.
Hooray for Gillespie!
Gillespie
Great public course in the city, 9 tee boxes with two different tee off spots making for 18 hole round. Friendly staff and great price.
