Excellent value and staff, challenging, great playing condition
Gillespie Golf Course, a 9-hole layout with two sets of tees, is a gem in the heart of Greensboro.
Bob Brooks and his staff are to be commended for making improvements in playing conditions, even with a municipal course budget.
The Gillespie Park staff makes you feel welcome, whether you're a first timer or a returning player like me.
I initially played Gillespie Golf Course over 20 years ago. I fell in love with the layout immediately!
Gillespie features small greens, with drop off on both sides, capturing even the slightest errant shot.
The greens were in the best shape EVER since I have been playing Gillespie!
Don't go by total distance for the holes and course. Gillespie is a shot-makers' course. The yardage book provided in the pro shop should be your "go to" guide.
I played in a weekday at mid-morning. As a twosome, our pace was just over 4 hours for 18 holes, riding in a cart.
Other courses in the area charge much more than Gillespie Park for green fees. Come play this hidden gem several times.
Do take a look at the mural and what it represents.... trailblazers who fought for the right, and won, to include who wanted to play golf at Gillespie.
Kudos to Gillespie and the city of Greensboro for their foresight to continually fund improvements for the facility.
As I was leaving the course after my round, several First Tee participants were getting ready to play.
They are our future in the game. Support First Tee (I have). Pay it forward to the next generation.
Hooray for Gillespie!
Gillespie
Great public course in the city, 9 tee boxes with two different tee off spots making for 18 hole round. Friendly staff and great price.
Fantastic course for the money
Best golf bang for the buck in the area. Fairways in good shape; greens are awesome.
9 hole Gem
Tee to green was maintained very well. Multiple tee boxes make it a different course on the back 9. The tips played just over 6400 for a nice round
Awesome 9 hole course
This is a fantastic place to play 9 or 18. Multiple tees for front and back nine. Tee boxes, fairways and bunkers in great condition. Greens rolled excellent!!. Blue tees can play almost 6500 yards, This was a great find on my travels.
NO CELLPHONE CHARGERS ON CARTS.
if I’m gonna spend four hours at a course, that’s one of the bare minimum requirements. Cell phone chargers must work. I have a lot going on in my life and my cell phone dying while I’m out here is not something I want to be concerned about.
The chargers that are on the carts used to work, but they do not.
Great course for the value
Overall great course. Smaller driving range for practice as it only had spots for 6 or so golfers. I was able to hit a few practice balls even getting the last open space. The course was nice. A little confusing the second 9 as it’s the same hole but with different tee boxes. The only choke point was the turn when you had people coming from 9 to 10 and then those waiting to tee off on 1 as well. Overall though nice little course for the money.
Pace of play
Front nine was great, on the turn there was a golfer walking hit two balls off the tee and another rider behind him with his friend hitting two ball off the tee an I’m behind them, No Marshalls to regulate pace of play. I average 2 to 3 hour rounds on a bad day. My tee time was 12:30pm , I finished at 5:45pm! No golf etiquette on the course the day I played back nine.
Friendly staff, great value, good condition
Gillespie Park is a top municipal course in Greensboro.
The staff is always helpful, friendly, and professional.
Value for walking 18 holes at the senior rate of $10 is outstanding.
Condition from tee to green is good. Greens roll true at medium speed. Kudos to the maintenance crew, who continue to make improvements to the course.
I played by myself in less than 4 hours, a great pace.
Put Gillespie Park on your list as a nice public course that offers challenge, scenery, good playing conditions, great staff, and excellent value.
Good condition, friendly staff, scenic, great value
Gillespie Park delivered a wonderful golfing experience yesterday.
Staff is always friendly, helpful, and professional. Bob and Billy are great.
Course conditions are good, with tees and fairways improving. Greens are a little spotty, realizing grass still has to grow in.
Was joined by a single player on front nine, another on the back. Both were friendly.
Played well on both nines, with par on # 8 and birdie on #17 (plays from a different set of tees on each nine).
Gillespie is a great 9 hole course and an asset for the City of Greensboro.
I highly recommend Gillespie Park.
