About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Great golf course
I play this course regularly and take friends and they always ask to go back. The course is in great shape and the greens are perfect.
First time
Nice staff, easy booking, easy to follow. A few challenging holes. GPS in carts was very accurate and provided good information. Nice pace of play
Nice day
Hace wasn’t great but no fault of the course on that. Fairways are beautiful greens are awesome always love the layout
Hidden Gem
Based on a recommendation from a worker at a course played earlier in the week, we booked Castle Bay. This is a great course with perfect fairways and consistent greens. The links style gives you plenty of room off of the tee. The Bermuda greens putted well and were receptive to all kinds of shots.
The only real ding is that the the grill is closed, so no food or drinks at the turn or after the round.
Castle Bay is definitely on the rotation for my next trip back to the area.
Great with one suggestion
Course played great, greens rolled well, enjoyed the grass driving range chipping area. But on a scorcher like yesterday having a drinks cart come around at least once would’ve been very much appreciated! Otherwise a good overall experience including a friendly pro shop staff.
Pleasantly surprised
I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was just looking to get in an early morning round while on vacation in Topsail Beach and found this course. Had the first tee time, played in less than 2.5 hours. The greens were in excellent condition, the fairways were above average… there was a lot of rain the night before so some water in the traps, but overall I enjoyed the layout… I love links style golf, and although not a true links, the feel and character was there. Very enjoyable.
Great Track with Great Facilities
Great track with excellent range of tee boxes. Fairways and greens in excellent shape. Coming from NY it took a little getting used to the speed of the greens. They roll smooth! I suggest rolling some putts to acclimate
yourselves. The cart yardage provided was accurate and helpful. Also it was not too loud as to bother another player. I can hardly wait to play here again! The 18th is the kind of hole that I dream about!
Unique layout
It’s a great course for a weekend round. A couple of unique holes that require some strategy with forced layups for not big hitters like me. GPS on the carts is a nice touch. The usual amount of first timers and just slow players that can affect pace of play, but hasn’t a huge issue the times I’ve played. 3 weekend rounds so far.
Good course
Castle bay is a good layout and is in great shape (fairways and greens). I like it and is not long even from the tips.
