Ironclad Golf and Beer Garden
About
Ironclad Golf and Beer Garden (formerly known as Belvedere Country Club) in Hampstead begins along the Intracoastal Waterway and then moves inland towards the clubhouse. The back nine is routed through tall forests that provide a home to grey heron and osprey. The golf course forms a large figure eight, which means you won't find any parallel fairways, but you will also be faced with wind whipping in every direction. The unique layout consists of six par 3s, seven par 4s, and five par 5s that all place a heavier emphasis on accuracy than distance. Many of the greens are elevated and the fairways are lined with trees. The par 3s are some of the most demanding holes due to their small, narrow greens. They are the toughest greens to hit in regulation but luckily if your placement isn't perfect there are still opportunities to save your score.

Fast greens!
If you’re going for the first time, be easy on your putts and approach. The greens do not do a whole lot in means of slowing the ball.
However, it is a great course and I can’t wait to go back and see the beer garden and taco shack when they are completed.
Great find
Very pleased to find this gem..friendly staff..the older lady in the shack was awesome..great layout..course in very good condition considering they started over2 years ago..scenic..all holes are cut into the woods...fun course with great beer and tunes on the driving range...will be back for sure
Gem in the rough
Great layout and elevation change. This course is in the process of rebuilding a closed course. The staff and beer selection were great. Fairways were in pretty good shape and tee boxes were nice. I will be back next visit to NC. Call them for tee times since GolfNow shows limited tee times but plenty are available.
Horrible
Let me just say this, we paid $20 to play and it was not worth it. Horrible fairways, slow patchy greens, just not much good to say about our round.
Wide open fairways and nice greens
Course is in nice shape, fairways are in great shape, along with the putting greens. Wide open fairways and some nice par 5’s. I will be back. I heard they bought this course that was closed for 4 years, it’s a gem in the rough. Will be amazing front to back soon. Tee boxes were ok but a few need some work. I would recommend this to anyone. BTW great selection of craft beers :)
Great job
This was once the worst course in the area when it was known as Belvedere but new management and an excellent grounds crew has since got this course looking very good.. Very impressed by how far they’ve gone to get this place back to its luster from years ago. Cant wait to keep coming back to see how much better it will get. Thanks for a great round and for the excellent hospitality.
Cheap, good layout, better but still bad conditions.
Now Ironclad, was Belvedere, I tried this place one year ago and it WAS absolutely the worst course ever then. NOW, the grass is actually growing in and groomed. About 4-5 greens were really nice so MUCH improvement has occurred. However, still slow due to tons of really bad golfers (can’t beat the price of $25 a round). No clubhouse only a hut with coolers for drinks. No water on course. Bathrooms look like they haven’t been touched since 1970s, nor cleaned. If they keep improving course conditions then this will be an absolute bang for the buck. Expect a $25 kind of course for now though.
Good time course
This is not a country club course. However, it is a fun, forgiving course for the average or beginner player.
The course has improved over the past year…and of course there is very good, very cold draft on craft beer ready at the 19th hole!
Great Layout
The course has a great layout with challenging holes. I know from the reviews that they are in the process of changing ownership. The front 9 was in great condition for the money, but the back 9 was in some need of serious work. One hole had a temporary green in the middle of the fairway which I didn’t expect but it seems that they are working to get everything up and running 100%. For the value and the layout I will be back again when in the area.
Awesome time!
I’m usually a rider but will play around when it’s not busy. Love the vibe of this course, so laid back and very family friendly. Everyone is accommodating and friendly! Great times here :)
Cool Mark
there was NO water on the course. It was pretty wet, but it's been raining a lot lately
Golf and Great Beer...Like Peanut butter and Jelly
A gem of a golf course/microbrewery combination. The proshop/ beer station is one in the same and the driving range has music cranked!
Our tee time was 1132 am, we got there early, hit some balls (with music) then got off before scheduled time.
They are rehabbing the course, so understand that going in, so the tee boxes aren't great, but the fairways are decent and it is a tight layout. Pace of play moved along, greens were slow but overall it was a good outing. Finished in less than four hours, had two tasty beers, and noticed that everyone there was having fun. So many smiles among the patrons! If you are super uptight about "How golf should be" , then this isn't your spot, but if you want to golf, enjoy the ambiance, and your friends, then make a reservation NOW!
