GPS
I was shocked how well the fairways were especially when the carts don’t supply sand/seed to fill your divots. The course needs to update their GPS as my garmin watch was useless for getting the correct distances. Overall a forgiving but challenging course especially on some holes that are playing long from the white tees.
Good Day
Everything was great except the pace of play had to quit on hole 16. It had already been well over 4 hours.
Great Gem of a Course
My first time playing the course . . . I played by myself, so I took my time and didn't push the foursome in front of me as I was also working. Staff was great and for the value this course is a steal. They have some of the best greens I have ever putted on at a public course.
Snack Bar
Great course. Great putting and driving range. All that missing is a hot snack bar.
Great course for a deal
Undoubtedly the best greens in the area. They were pure and fast with overall reasonable pin positions. Can’t beat it for the price point on a beautiful fall Sunday. Staff was polite and although the course was stacked, the pace was right at 4 hours. Highly recommend this course.
Fantastic course in amazing conditions, staff just doesn’t care.
Fairways, greens, layout and surroundings of the course are absolutely stunning. However, getting the staff to get you on the course and regulate pace of play is abysmal. One person is playing on their phone, another was staring at a club the pro shop was trying to sell and the last was telling him how great the club was for thirty minutes. If you think it’s once off thing you finish the front nine after 3 hours of waiting…. No exaggeration! Groups of 6, 5 and 4 back to back with no proper tee times is amazing! You’ll have plenty of time to watch the geese claim your ball as their egg and take in the scene. After coming in after 9 to grab a snack you need to wait another 15 minutes to buy a drink and snack. One person tells you to go to this guy staring at a phone the. Back to the other guy looking at the same club before finally they wake up and check you out. If it was teenagers it would be understandable but these are 50 year old men with the work ethic of a slug. However the course is amazing, the grounds keeping staff are respectful and doing great. Just need to fire a couple managers up front and promote from within!
Jamestown Golf
Took some buddies to Jamestown for a round. It rained over 1.5 inches the night before so it was soggy and cart path only. The front nine is a bit hilly so it made for some out-of-breath walks to and from the ball. Greens were in perfect condition and even when wet rolled smooth and fast. Tee boxes were ok, some were a little "shaggy", but overall good. The city of Jamestown made the course close the grill so only packaged sandwiches and drinks are available at the turn. Staff was friendly and helpful. Driving range was mats only and because of the rain very soggy. It's a great course for the money and will definitely play again.
We were behind a group since hole #4 and finally on hole #15! the ranger shows up and tells us to speed up! The group in front of us had 3-4 holes open in front of them for most of the day.. Ranger said he talked to them too, but geez, really asking us to speed up on hole #15?! Otherwise course is in great condition as always but again a bit pricey for this area, in my opinion.
Great first experience
Pros:
Overall this was a surprisingly nice course to find in Jamestown. The course itself was in good condition, fairways were soft but well cut, rough was fluffy and playable. Greens rolled beautifully. Carts were in good shape and clean. Staff was friendly.
Cons:
Some minor wet spots in the fairway (we had just had a huge storm two days before, so I'll give this a pass). Several bunkers had washed out from that same rain storm, but again, a pass for now. This will need to be actually fixed though vs the fairways. There were several spots under trees where it was surprisingly rocky soil, which I would let someone have a free drop out of, ruining your clubs on a casual round is not worth it. The water station after hole 12 did not work when we played.
Overall, 4/5. The course itself was lovely. Not too hard for casual or infrequent golfers, but several holes gave you options for playing them if you could hit the ball far enough. We booked as a group of two and the staff did pair us with another twosome. This was fine since they were surprisingly busy, but it would have been nice to know that was a possibility before booking. They ended up being nice people though, and we got along fine. I do think the price may have been a little high at $50 each, but they were slammed so I guess that's just me thinking that. Range balls cost an unreasonable amount of money for how many you got.
Staff was very friendly and cooperative. The conditions and pace of play were great! I love the layout of this course!
I'll be baaaack!!
The course was in great shape and the staff were all great. It's a fair layout from the white tees without a bunch of trouble. I had a few higher handicappers with me, and it helped keep things pleasant. The only thing missing was a grill for the turn. The grab n go pre-made sandwiches were a bit disappointing, but that's the only mark on the day. We had a great experience overall.
