The Greens are bit beat up still
On most of the greens, there seems to be some sort of weed that is mixed in with the normal grass and makes putting very hard and since it's early in the season, the grass near the greens are rock hard and very little soft grassy areas. I do like the course a lot especially the value, but hopefully this is just a temporary problem they are facing right now. My rating for the course without the green problem would be a lot higher than poor but that is what the shape of the course is in right now.
This course has many great holes. Lots of fun
It was the beginning of the season. Early spring. The course was not grown it. The holes were interesting. Great course for the money. Staff very friendly.
Not good at all
This course does not deserve 4 stars. Paid $18 for 18 holes with a cart. The cart was terrible and could barely poke along the course. Every other fairway was soaked with puddles on the course and in sand traps. Do not waste your money here. There are plenty of other courses that are in much better condition for comparable prices.
Greens were fast and challenging to 2 putt each hole

Great value
A beautiful course that offers great value and has a friendly staff
Impromto round at the River Golf course
+
The price for a Saturday afternoon round was too good to pass up. I went as a single but joined a threesome of friendly guys, two of whom were low handicappers. Really enjoyed the round.
Truly a hidden Gem!
We got a hot deal for $10 per person from Golfnow.com and didn't really expect much for the price we got. What we got was a big surprise as the course was a very fun course. Thoroughly enjoyed our round and each hole was different. Loved the fairways and the greens were tough to read if you are a first-timer like we were. We wanted to play it again the next day, but we did not have enough time as we had to drive back to DC. We will definitely come back to play this track again.
Great Value
Played here several times and course was in best condition that I have seen it. Fairways and Greens were in excellent shape and great value for the price.
I love this course
This is one of the best courses in the Raleigh Area that I have played. I love the fact that I can get cheap tee times for it. I will play over and over again.
A great place to play.
I always enjoy my day at this course. A beautiful layout with stress free play. There were no groups in front or back of us. I drive thirty-five miles to play here but it is worth the commute.
More Difficult Then You First Think It Is
The River Golf Course, between Louisburg, Bunn and Spring Hope, NC, is beginning to mature into a challenging place for a golf outing. I believe you will find it worth the drive from Raleigh, Henderson, Warrenton, Wilson or Rocky Mount and even Clayton. The trees which were short and small a few years ago are now really shaping this course. If you are looking for a wide open easy course layout, some of these fairways can get real narrow really quick. The fairways twist and turn following the Tar River as it winds throughout the course. There is a decent amount of water in play and often par is the difference between risking a long shot over water or laying up. There are several risk/reward shots over or around trees on the course. I have seen very low handicap golfers pile on the extra shots taking the risks but the tempting rewards can cut a shot or two off a score. Don't get fooled on hole number 9. Yes you can reach the pond with a great fading drive but it's a lot easier to roll a shot into the Bern that divides #9 from #1 if the ball doesn't turn right. The fairways are usually in pretty good shape and they were on this outing. The greens which are a type of Bermuda Grass, had been freshly mowed and were not as quick as glass, but were able to roll smoothly and were quite fast There is very good undulation on the greens as this course has aged. You can forget about a lot of straight putts and if the greens keeper tucks the pins, you might find some very long putts to reach the hole. This was a fun outing. I actually made some great iron shots and a few putts...to make up for the horrendous drives I was hooking that day. One of the strongest and weakest points of the course is the bunkers. Most are positioned in strategic locations to make shaping shots quite handy on this course. Unfortunately the drainage for the bunkers often leaves a few extra water hazards in their place after rains and several need additional sand. I will say there have been a lot of improvement over the past 2 or 3 years. I play this course several times per year and now with the closing of another local course, I play it even more often. The price is very reasonable and is in line with the playability of the course. The Golf Pro, Rich, is a friendly and cordial host and provides good lessons to those who need them. I think I better talk to him soon! Golf Here! You'll enjoy it. ...Golf-owl
Greens are hard to judge for speed
Course was in pretty good shape, but it was hard to judge the speed of the greens. Some of the bunkers need some serious work on them.
Nice country course nestled in the Pines
Nice little course located close to Bunn NC just off 98 highway. I have played there a few times over the years and the course seems to be on a bit of a comeback. Course was in good shape overall and the greens and fairways were in very playable shape. There are a few washed out bunkers, but there had been a downpour the day before. Pace of play was good, and the folks in the clubhouse were friendly. Overall the course is surprisingly challenging and will use a lot of different clubs in your bag. Requires accuracy, and mishits into the woods are punished as they are THICK. I would recommend this course as I find it relaxing to play and it is not crowded with houses and people.
Love this course
My wife and I play here often. We have played many of the other courses within 30 miles of Raleigh. This course is a little more challenging than others but we just play from the women's tee in certain situations. The conditions are as good or better than the other courses and because we play twice a week we save a lot of money playing here. Oh, and the course is really not busy during the week. It's a great place to play.
Hidden Gem
This was my first time playing this course and I enjoyed it. I'm not a low handicap golfer, but I still feel confident in saying that this course is not overly difficult. There's more importance on shot selection than there is on length, as the course is only about 6,300 yards from the tips. Aside from a couple of waterlogged bunkers and some dry patches, the course was in great shape. The pace of play was great as well. I'll definitely be back.
Great Course
Course was beautiful and in very good shape. The hills and water made the course a little difficult. The only issue was that 2 foursome went off in front of us and were very slow, but would not let anyone through. On the back, the 2 foursome joined together and were playing 8 people together. They had 2 twosomes and my group behind them, waiting maybe 15 minutes on each tee. So the only improvement would be maybe have a ranger checking on rate of play. But all in all a good day and a great course
Bermuda Rough is filling In
Fairways and rough are in very good condition. Most of the greens are in good shape but a few are getting some bare spots. This is a really good, challenging course from the back tees......if they would just fix the sand traps ( a mix of clay, dirt, pebbles, etc) and make them consistent, it would be a great course. Can't beat the value on a Hot Deal!
Needs some tender loving care
This course needs some tender loving care! Tee boxes need serious work but for the money and the rate of play, it was a good deal.
OK Track but not Great
It has been many years since I played this course and it will be many more before I return. The course is OK but not great and not worth the 45 minute drive. Also, our gas cart didn't run well at all (#10) so we switched to an electric cart at the turn. The front nine is tight and easy to loose balls. The back nine is more wide open but the fairways are not well defined. The tee boxes need some work and hadn't been mowed in a while. The greens are very slow. One thing that is interesting, you don't hit driver on every par 4. We hit fairway wood on several of the short par 4 and even an iron on one. This course does have some character with several dogleg holes. Sandtraps are not maintained. Can't recommend this course to a friend. Really no 19th hole.
